Sewell -- Services for J.C. Sewell, 90, of Lubbock were Sunday in Aldersgate United Methodist Church. He died January 21 1999. He was born April 30, 1908 in Priscilla. He worked on a dairy farm in Dallas and he later moved to Big Spring to work in a meat market. He worked for Montgomery Ward and Co., where he moved to assistant manager. He married Vera Kay Moore on October 7, 1933. He worked for G.F. Wackers for 16 years in Wink, Kermit and Big Spring. He and his wife moved to Big Lake in 1948 and operated a store. He moved to Albuquerque, in 1958, where he was a credit and office manager for Whites Auto Store. He moved to the Bank of New Mexico in 1962 as a loan officer, and he retired in 1975 as vice-president in the corporation. He was a manager of a branch bank. He worked as a consultant for several other banks. He moved to Lubbock in 1995. He was a board chairman of several Methodist churches. He was a member of the Lions Club, Chambers of Commerce and high school athletic programs. Survivors include his wife; a son, Robert Carlton; a brother, Marvin Richmond Sewell; two granddaughters; and three great-grandchildren.
