Sumpter -- Robert E. Sumpter, 36, died May 6, 1999, in Mesa, AZ. He is survived by his mother, Betty of Albuquerque; sisters, Carol Sumpter of Albuquerque and Nancy Moore and husband, Lloyd of Huntington, CT; brother, Thomas Sumpter and wife, Mary of Honolulu, HI. Robert graduated from Eldorado High School and attended the University of New Mexico and New Mexico Tech. He was a widely-read student of military history who, in life, found his greatest joy in books. In death, he provided the gift of sight to two persons in need. His was a generous and a loving heart. Cremation has taken place and a private Memorial Service is planned. If friends desire, a donation to the Albuquerque or Mesa Public Library would be a most fitting memorial.
