Locker -- Corinne Locker was born July 21, 1924 in New York and died July 25 in Corrales, NM. She moved to Santa Fe in the late 40's, where she worked for many years with Oliver La Farge. Upon his death, she became the Southwest representative of the American Association of Indian Affairs. Convinced that Taos Pueblo could succeed in its efforts to recover ownership of its sacred Blue Lake, she left the Association to work as a consultant for the Pueblo. In that role she was instrumental in winning the return of the Blue Lake area to the Pueblo in 1970. (Her papers relating to the Blue Lake struggle are archived at Princeton University Library.) She also worked for Presbyterian Medical Services when they sought to extend medical care into the Four Corners checkerboard area. She could recall visiting some clinic sites by light aircraft, landing on nearby roads, where there were no airstrips. More recently, she was engaged in water rights litigation on behalf of some of the northern pueblos. At her request, there will be no memorial service.
