Adams -- Meira Adams died in St. Joseph's Hospital on Friday, March 12, 1999. She was born November 20, 1946 in Brighton, Sussex, England. She is survived by her mother, Adelaide Underwood and her brother, Simon Thomas Underwood, both of Brighton. Meira's life was a triumph of action over adversity, and a journey of overcoming challenges. Beginning at age 17, she traveled in South Africa, Europe and the U.S. as a professional ice skater. At 21, she moved to the United States, and was grated U.S. Citizenship in 1998. She attended the University of Oklahoma, College of Dentistry, and also received a certificate for teaching ballet. She won numerous awards for dance, most recently for a performance in the Senior Olympics. During the past two years, she volunteer-taught ballet at the Hayden School of Ballet. She came to Albuquerque in the late 1970's and finished a BS in Psychology at the University of New Mexico. Two years ago she earned a Certificate in Exercise Physiology from T-VI. In 1998 she celebrated her Bat Mitzvah in the Jewish tradition. She was active as a volunteer at Congregation B-nai Israel. Meira loved animals and was active with the Sandia Dog Obedience Club. She leaves behind two beloved Scotties who will go to a new home together. Meira will be remembered by those who knew her well for her courage, her tenacity and her perseverance against all odds. She will be remembered by her family as a wonderful daughter and sister. Services will be held at Fairview Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 18, Rabbi Isaac Celnik officiating. Strong-Thorne Mortuary, 1100 Coal Ave. SE, in charge of arrangements.
