Garner -- Agnes Jackson Garner, 82, a resident of Albuquerque, died Saturday, July 8, 2000. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, A.J. Garner, Jr. of Albuquerque; son, Jack Garner and wife, Lynn Johnson of Golden, CO; daughter, Betty Garner of Ada, OK; granddaughter, Sara Schlundt and husband, Joe of Houston, TX; grandson, Travis Garner of Ft. Collins, CO; sister, Hannah Mae White of Tucson, AZ; beloved nieces and nephews; and dear friends, Ken & Nancy Bishop of Bosque Farms, NM. Mrs. Garner was preceded in death by her son, Edward Byrch Garner; brothers, Bill, Edward, Joe and Bernard Jackson; and sister, Mary Ellen Jackson. Agnes was born in Cimarron, NM on June 6, 1918 and attended school in Cimarron. She attended New Mexico State and received a degree in Biology. Agnes married A.J. Garner in 1944. Mrs. Garner taught school in Carrizozo and Cimarron. The Garners moved to Riverton, WY in 1947 on the G.I. Homestead Bill. They returned to NM in 1954 and she taught in the Santa Fe schools until 1975. At that time Mr. & Mrs. Garner moved to East Africa for 2 years where they lived in Nakuru, Kenya. In 1977 they moved Silver City, NM where she taught until her retirement in 1979. They moved to Albuquerque in the late 80's. After her retirement, they enjoyed traveling and were active in the Forest Service Amigos and in their family. They spent their winters in Albuquerque and their summers in the Brazos where they enjoyed the outdoors. Services will be held Thursday, July 13, 2000, 10:00 a.m., at French MortuaryťLomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, with Pastor Rick Donaho officiating. Interment will take place at Santa Fe National Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. Pallbearers will be Joe Jackson, Mike Jackson, Tom Jackson, Ken Bishop, Travis Garner and Joe Schlundt. Honorary pallbearers will be Bill Smith, Jim Harrelson, Gene Williams, Johnny Mutz, Scott Jackson, Bill Jackson, Monroe Telford and Freddye Johnson. Friends may visit French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. Wednesday, July 12, 2000, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
