Nick Urioste Martinez, born in 1918, passed away on Sunday, September 10, 2000. He is survived by his beloved companion, Eileen Cole; children John, Nicole, and Joel Martinez, and sister, Priscilla De Tevis. Nick was born in La Manga, a small adobe village in Northern New Mexico and moved to Albuquerque where he attended UNM, majoring in biology. He then moved to St. Louis and Chicago where he became a nationally ranked handball player and finally returned to his native New Mexico. He was a veteran of World War II, an accomplished singer, entertainer and guitarist, a superb chef and gardener. He shared his joy of good food, beautiful music, humor and looving companionship with so many people throughout his life. Those of us who have known Nick give thanks that he was a part of our lives. A small family celebraation of Nick's life will be held on Friday, September 15, 2000.
