Harnar -- Robert R. Harnar, age 78, died peacefully at his home in Cedar Crest, NM on September 6, 2000 after a lengthy illness. He was born in Harda, India and moved to this area from Ohio in 1951. He retired in 1984 from Sandia National Labs and was last involved as the quality assurance project engineer on the S.N.A.P.S. generator, which was used on Apollo Moon Missions and later deep space probes. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Navy, retiring as a Lieutenant Commander. He was a member and Elder Emeritus at Sombra Del Monte Christian Church. Mr. Harnar was preceded in death by two sons, Robbie Harnar, Jr. in 1959 and Dr. Timothy J. Harnar in 1991; and is survived by his wife of 56 years, Betty Harnar of the family home; a son, Jeff Harnar of Santa Fe; daughter-in-law, JoAnn Harnar of Albuquerque; a sister, Ruth Harnar of Indiana; and two brothers, Don Harnar of Florida and Dick Harnar of Indiana. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2000, 11:30 a.m., at Sombra Del Monte Christian Church, 2528 Utah NE. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given to University of New Mexico Foundation, Dr. Timothy J. Harnar Memorial Scholarship Fund, 700 Lomas Blvd. NE, Suite 108, Albuquerque, NM 87131. Sandia Funeral Care, 7601 Wyoming Blvd. NE.
