Daffer -- �Peter G. Daffer, 89, a resident of Albuquerque for 65 years, died at home on Monday, May 29, 2000, 37 days after the death of his beloved wife, Lee. He is survived by four children, Peter Z. Daffer and wife, Merete, of Perry, GA, twins, Jon Daffer and Joline Mahr and her husband, Ed, all of Albuquerque, and Stephanie Daffer and husband, Bob Michels, of San Francisco, CA; four granddaughters, Jonna Schuler of Houston, TX, Sonja Daffer and Amy and Kristin Mahr, all of Albuquerque; one brother, Oscar Daffer of Weiser, ID; and a sister, Marian Masilko of Lincoln, NE; and sister-in-law, Mary Armstrong and her husband, Glenn, of Albuquerque. One of 13 children, Pete grew up in Pleasant Dale, NE. He attended the University of Nebraska before joining the Army Corps of Engineers in Albuquerque in the mid 1930s. He met Lee soon after arriving in Albuquerque and they were married on Nov. 6, 1938. Pete and Lee lived in Magdalena, Farmington and Las Vegas, NM, before returning to Albuquerque in 1945. He then changed careers, becoming a self-employed retail liquor businessman. Since 1970, Pete had enjoyed a wonderful retirement, pursuing favorite hobbies such as gardening, working on household projects (he could fix anything), and doting on his granddaughters. An avid sports fan, he particularly enjoyed baseball (he had played semi-pro in his youth) and was ever loyal to the San Francisco Giants. He had a gregarious personality, a wonderful sense of humor and an infectious laugh. Pete was a gentleman and a gentle man. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, he will, indeed, be deeply missed. The family is immensely grateful to the dedicated team of caregivers who allowed Pete to remain at home. Special thanks go to caregivers Sonia Manning, Tommy Carrion and Kaylyn Sanmann; and to dear friends, Claire Cole and Delores Pederson. Rosary will be recited Thursday at 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd. NE. Memorial Mass will be celebrated Friday, 10:30 a.m., at Immaculate Conception Church, 619 Copper NW.
