Terry -- Milton Terry, age 80, lifetime Quay County resident, passed away in the Baptist St. Anthony's Hospital in Amarillo, TX on Friday morning, December 29, 2000. Milton Terry was born April 13, 1920 at Bard, NM, attended school at Porter, NM and graduated from the Porter School in 1939. He had been a farmer and rancher in the Porter community. He was active in the Democratic Party and had served as Quay County Commissioner for two terms. HE served two terms as Quay County Tax Assessor in the late 80's. In the seventies he lived for a number of years in Farmington, NM, being employed by the Navajo Agri. Products. During that time he also served as appraiser for San Juan County. After moving back to Logan, he served as Manager for the Village of Logan. He was a veteran of WWII serving with the US Navy. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Logan, NM, a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows of San Jon, NM and the Tucumcari Elks Lodge 1172. Surviving Milton Terry are three daughters, Patsy Hedgecock of Bloomfield, NM, Phyllis Tillman of Clovis, NM, and C. Kay Terry of Las Vegas, NM; his companion, Rose Barnett of Logan, NM; three brothers, Marvin Terry of San Jon, NM, L.E. Terry and Kenneth Terry of Logan, NM; two sisters, Thelma Donwerth of Tucumcari, NM and La Verne Waldeisen of Matureville, Pennsylvania; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services will be Monday morning, January 1, 2001 at 10:30 a.m. in the San Jon First Baptist Church with Rev. M.V. Summers, minister of Central Baptist Church of Clovis, NM, officiating. Burial will be in the San Jon Cemetery at San Jon, NM. The body of Milton Terry will lie in state at the Dunn Funeral Home from Saturday afternoon until 7:00 p.m. and from Sunday afternoon from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. that night. The family suggests for those who wish, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Tucumcari Helping Hands Hospice in memory of Milton Terry.
