Putnam -- Florence A. Putnam, devoted and much loved wife, mother, and grandmother, passed on to her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, December 27, 2000 as a result of complications from Alzheimers disease. Florence entered the world in Walnut, IA on July 19, 1920, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ona A. Clough, both of whom preceded her in death. She lived and attended school in Walnut, IA through high school, where she was an all-state basketball star. She completed her advanced education and training in Des Moines, IA. She married her loving husband of over 58 years, Allan Putnam in September 1942, just two months before he entered service in World War II. Following Allan's separation, he was asked to remain with the Department of Defense so the Putnams took up residence at Sandia Base near Albuquerque were they resided for 12 years prior to purchasing a home in the city proper. Florence was always active in community affairs serving as chairperson of numerous school activities, a regular in Chapel functions and Officer's Wives Club programs. She has been an active participant and attendee at the Sandia/KAFB Chapel since April 1946. Florence is a past Grand Guardian of Job's Daughters of New Mexico, a position she relished because of her association and leadership of hundreds of young women. Florence's great concern for and interest in young people never waned and is reflected in her very special relationship with her own children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and all their many friends. In addition to her husband, Florence leaves to mourn, daughters, Bobbie Jane Moore and husband, William of Dallas, TX, and Billie Jean Beeman of Albuquerque; granddaughters, Dr. Kari Moore of Boston, MA, Kristin Danson and husband, Christopher of Austin, TX, Kami Showalter and husband, Bill of Columbus, OH, Jill Beeman and Amy Beeman of Albuquerque; grandson, Todd Beeman of Albuquerque; sisters, Mrs. Violet Taylor of Anamosa, IA, Mrs. Twyla Bero of Walnut, IA, Mrs. Norma Bowman of Council Bluffs, IA, Leona Dollen and husband, Harold of Council Bluffs, IA; and great-granddaughters, Taylor and Payton Showalter of Columbus, OH. In addition, Florence will be greatly missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other members of her extended family; also many friends across the country. Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be held Saturday, December 30, 2000, 3:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, with Dr. Lemuel M. Boyles, Chaplain, (Col.) USAF (Ret.) officiating, followed by a fellowship reception at Ramada Inn Mountainview, 25 Hotel Circle, NE. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Florence's name to the New Mexico chapter Alzheimer's Association, 1330 San Pedro NE, Suite 205, Albuquerque, NM 87110. Final resting place will be in the Putnam family plot in Graceland Cemetery in Avoca, IA. The family is appreciative and deeply grateful for the loving care Florence has received while at resident at the Cottages of Albuquerque Alzheimer's Care Facility. Also recognized is the outstanding service provided by Sandia Hospice in Florence's last weeks. Arrangements by French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE.
