Grimes -- Zelma Grimes, 103, passed away May 2, 2000. She was born July 14, 1896 to Frank and Mary Grimes in Cuero, TX, where she was the youngest of nine children. After graduation from Cuero High School, she completed her Masters Degree studies in Home Economics at Prairie View University. From there she taught Home Economics in schools in Texas, Oklahoma and Mississippi. For the last 25+ years, Miss Grimes had worked and retired from the YMCA. She is survived by her niece, Hortense Newton of Yoakum, TX; nephews, Frank Goodson and Walter Wayne Goodson of Yoakum, TX, and Willie Hicks of Los Angeles, CA; numerous other nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews; and great-great-nieces and nephews; as well as her special friends, Hattee Moss, and Les and Harriet James. The family wishes to thank the staff at Sunbridge West Mesa for making Miss Grimes feel as if she was part of a family. Cremation arrangements are by Sunrise Society, (891-8200).
