Chavez -- Samuel Chavez Sr., 91, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away Sunday, August 20, 2000. Mr. Chavez was born in San Marcial, NM; he was employed by the Santa Fe Railroad, where he retired after 31 years. Mr. Chavez is survived by his wife of 68 years, Conception (Connie) Chavez; one son, Samuel Chavez Jr. and wife, Frances; four daughters, Selfita McCollum and husband, Jack of Las Vegas, NV, Albita Bruno of Gardena, CA, Sally Sanchez, and Lorraine Chavez, both of Albuquerque; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by his loving family. Final viewing will be this morning, from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m., in the mortuary chapel. Mass of Christian burial will also be celebrated this morning, 10:00 a.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, with Fr. James Moore as Celebrant. Interment will follow at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Ben Bruno, Tommy Bruno, Moses Santiago, Patrick Sanchez, Mickey Gabaldon, and Vince Smith. Funeral services are in the care of Garcia Mortuary, 717 Stover Ave. SW, 243-5222.
