Newton -- Genevieve G. Newton, 94, died on June 23, 2000. She was born in Roswell, NM to Clarence and Augusta (Carillo) Goddard on January 17, 1906. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Newton, parents, five brothers and one sister. She is survived by one brother, Daniel and wife, Madeline of Denver, CO; and one sister, Jane Garcia and husband, Fabian of El Rito, NM. She is also survived by sons, George , Richard and wife, Sherry, and Timothy and wife, Gabriella; and by her daughter, Elizabeth Anekny and husband, Claude; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She attended New Mexico Highlands University and taught school for many years. Later, after her children were grown, she was a businesswoman; however, she continued to help many neighborhood children learn to read. She had a unique ability to teach children to read, many of whom has experienced reading difficulties in school This lifelong dedication to scholarship and reading was a joy to her. She also loved gardening and sewing. In addition the the immediate family, she leaves many nephews, nieces and friends, all of whom enjoyed her and whose lives were enriched by her friendship and love. A Rosary will be held Tuesday, June 27, 2000, 7:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE. A Mass to celebrate her life will be at the Holy Family Church, 562 Atrisco SW, Wednesday, June 28, 2000 at 9:00 a.m. followed by burial next to her husband in the Santa Fe National Cemetery, Santa Fe, New Mexico. French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd. NE.
