Buell -- Harold Chapin Buell, 85, a resident of Albuquerque since 1946, died Thursday, December 26, 2002. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Katherine Spates Buell of Albuquerque; children, Reed Buell and wife, Barbara of Albuquerque, Linn Buell and wife, Laurie of Glendale, AZ; grandchildren, Tamara, Brent, Taryn, Courtney, Chelsea, Lindsey and Allison Buell; great-grandchildren Nicholas and Hailee; step-children, Donna Smith, Janice DeLorenzo and husband, Donald, James J. Spates and wife, Barbara, Jacqueline Jayne and husband, Michael, Cynthia Gilbert and husband, Don of Albuquerque and Nancy Clatanoff of Buda, TX; 13 step-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Daniels of Lexington, KY. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife; Gladys; brother, Earl Swallow; sister, Olive Garrison; and twin sister, Helen Waugh. Harold came to New Mexico during World War II to work on the Manhattan Project under the supervision of Dr. J. Robert Oppenheimer. After being honorably discharged from the Army in 1946, he moved to Albuquerque and began his 42-year career with Zeon Sign Company. While at Zeon Signs, Harold was a neon tube bender and progressed through sales and management to ownership, retiring in 1986. Harold was a charter member of the Albuquerque Tips Club, a charter member of St. John's United Methodist Church, an avid gardener and a lover of the outdoors. He particularly loved birds. Services will be held Saturday, December 28, 2002, at 10:00 a.m., at St. John's United Methodist Church, 2626 Arizona NE, with Rev. Charlie Price officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE. Pallbearers will be Vern Easley, Jere Pelletier, Bruce Behrends, Brent Buell, Don Gilbert, Don DeLorenzo, James Spates and Michael Jayne. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ralph Dixon, Lionel Specter and Larkin Hall. Friends may visit French Mortuary, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE, Friday, December 27, 2002, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. If desired, contributions may be made to St. John's United Methodist Church or the American Lung Association.
