Bishop -- Oleta F. Bishop, age 84, and a resident of Albuquerque since 1979 passed away peacefully at her home Wednesday, December 25, 2002. Ms. Bishop was a member of Cristo Del Valle Presbyterian Church for over 20 years; she and her husband were members of the Oddfellows & Rebecca's since 1950. Ms. Bishop spent her former years in Lindrith, NM. Ms. Bishop was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Andrew Bishop; and three grandsons, Eugene Dale Baxter, Terrence Lee Baxter, and Gary Wayne Baxter. Her loving daughter, Glenda Baxter; six sisters; and one brother survive Ms. Bishop. Buell -- Harold Chapin Buell, 85, a resident of Albuquerque since 1946, died Thursday, December 26, 2002. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Katherine Spates Buell of Albuquerque; children, Reed Buell and wife, Barbara of Albuquerque, Linn Buell and wife, Laurie of Glendale, AZ; grandchildren, Tamara, Brent, Taryn, Courtney, Chelsea, Lindsey and Allison Buell; great-grandchildren Nicholas and Hailee; step-children, Donna Smith, Janice DeLorenzo and husband, Donald, James J. Spates and wife, Barbara, Jacqueline Jayne and husband, Michael, Cynthia Gilbert and husband, Don of Albuquerque and Nancy Clatanoff of Buda, TX; 13 step-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Daniels of Lexington, KY. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife; Gladys; brother, Earl Swallow; sister, Olive Garrison; and twin sister, Helen Waugh. Harold came to New Mexico during World War II to work on the Manhattan Project under the supervision of Dr. J. Robert Oppenheimer. After being honorably discharged from the Army in 1946, he moved to Albuquerque and began his 42-year career with Zeon Sign Company. While at Zeon Signs, Harold was a neon tube bender and progressed through sales and management to ownership, retiring in 1986. Harold was a charter member of the Albuquerque Tips Club, a charter member of St. John's United Methodist Church, an avid gardener and a lover of the outdoors. He particularly loved birds. Services will be held Saturday, December 28, 2002, at 10:00 a.m., at St. John's United Methodist Church, 2626 Arizona NE, with Rev. Charlie Price officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE. Chappell -- Mary Jone Harrington Chappell, 70, peacefully passed away at home in Corrales on Sunday, December 22, 2002, while surrounded by her family. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Buddie Chappell, son, Norman ¯Ned¯ Chappell and his wife, Jeannie McNeil Chappell, daughters, Dorothy Schroeder and Debbie Dickinson and her husband, Steve Dickinson, and grandchildren, Travis Schroeder, Jessica Yasuda, Daniel Packard, Elise, Derek and Sean Chappell, and a multitude of loving relatives and friends. Although Jone had many interests and talents, her primary focus was to build and maintain a strong, loving family and home. Jone loved the mountains and she and Buddie spent many happy hours with family and friends at the cabin they built together in Southern Colorado. She was a patron of the arts and was, at one time, very involved with Art Fest. Another passion Jone pursued was genealogy and for many years, she edited and published the quarterly newsletter for the Albuquerque Genealogical Society. Between visiting her children and grandchildren and traveling the world, Jone found time to make quilts, do historical research, paint, play bridge and bowl. She will be remembered by everyone as a gracious, loving and beautiful woman. In lieu of flowers, Jone would be honored by donations to any of the following organizations: Corrales Public Library; The American Cancer Society; The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society; or any shelter for battered women and children or homeless families. Damon -- H&R Block Associate and Master in the field of Quality Tax Return Preparation, Bettye Jean Damon died Saturday, December 21, 2002, at home in Albuquerque after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was 74. Bettye had been with H&R Block for 32 years and many of her clients depended upon Bettye for Income Tax Preparation for 30 years or more. Bettye is survived by her husband, Edward G. Damon of Albuquerque; daughter, Georgia Jean Carrion, and husband John of Redding, Calif.; two sons, Ernest Edward Damon, and wife Regina, and Alan Benge Damon, all of Albuquerque; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Bettye continued in her work at H&R Block until Sept. 6, 2002 when, because of her health, she was unable to continue working. The family would like to express their appreciation to her many clients and associates for their cards and letters expressing recognition of Bettye as a great lady and a wonderful person to be associated with through the years. Didomenico -- Concezio (Joe) Didomenico, age 96, of Raton, NM passed Monday, December 23, 2002 in Raton. He was born December 8, 1906 in San Valentino, Italy the son of Clemente and Anna Chiachia, Didomenico. He was a retired coal miner, a member of the United Mine Workers of America, a member of St. Patricks-St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Raton and a Veteran of WWII serving in the United States Army. Mr. Didomenico moved from Italy with his parents in 1913 and became a citizen of the United States. He is survived by one brother, Nick Didomenico of Las Vegas, NM; two sisters, Sentina Didomenico of Raton and Adeline Starkovich of Raton. Visitation was held Thursday, December 26, 2002 from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the Yaksich-Long Funeral Home. Recitation of the Most Holy Rosary will be Friday, December 27, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patricks-St. Joseph's Catholic Church recited by Deacon Tom Alderette. Solemn Mass of the Resurrection will follow at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Guy Roberts as the Celebrant. Burial will be in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Geiger -- Ed Geiger, 72, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, passed away Friday, December 20, 2002. He is survived by his daughters, Marie Turpin of Billings, MT and Sheryl Nanco of Albuquerque; sons, Dan Geiger of Eugene, OR and Dave Geiger and wife, Lyn of Albuquerque; granddaughters, Candice Nanco and Cassie Nanco, both of Albuquerque; grandsons, Wade Turpin and wife, Chanda of Minnesota and Justin Turpin of Albuquerque; and great-grandson, Porter Turpin of Minnestota. Mr. Geiger was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Geiger. He was a member of the Ballut Abyad Shrine and Masonic Temple Lodge # 6. Mr. Geiger owned and operated Sunburst Mobile Home Village. Hatch -- Kathleen C. Hatch of Albuquerque passed away on Tuesday, December 24, 2002, four days before her 82nd birthday. She was born in Scipio, UT to the late Lottie C. and Frank S. Hatch. She joined the U.S. Army as a Lieutenant and served as a dietitian at several military hospitals until being discharged in 1947. She was Chief Dietitian at the Sonoma County Hospital, CA for 22 years. She is survived by her brother, William Hatch of Scipio, UT; and sisters, Charlotte Orton of Fresno, CA, Helen Wood of Salt Lake City, UT, and Alice Tollestrup of Albuquerque; and numerous nieces and nephews. Longoria -- Danny Longoria, 44, a resident of Rio Rancho, died on December 24, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Terrie of Rio Rancho and his 6-year-old son, Joshua Daniel; parents, Daniel and Tina Longoria of Tucson, AZ; five sisters, Mary Jane Jones and husband, Gary of Rio Rico, AZ, Debbie Ard and husband, Jerald of Tampa, FL, Connie Radtke and husband, Chris of Tucson, AZ, Anita Curran and husband, Joe of Tucson, AZ and Dee Dee Rhoten of Huntington Beach, CA. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Danny was a member of the Albuquerque Police Department since February of 1986 and was a detective in the Auto Theft Unit for several years. He was a General Manager for the Sunset Little League and was involved in foster care for Children Youth and Families Department. He was an avid softball player in the Rio Rancho Softball Complex. Lynch -- Joseph I. Lynch, 39, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on December 25, 2002. Joseph is survived by his loving mother, Eileen G. Lynch; a brother, John B. Lynch and wife, Chris; one niece, Ashley Lynch; two nephews, Derek and John David Lynch; Godparents, Ray and Barbara Zimmer; many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Joseph was preceded in death by his wife, Valerie Lynch and his father Thomas W. Lynch. Joseph was a member of the Catholic Church, a Veteran of the U.S. Navy currently with the U.S. Navy Reserve. Joseph was employed with Albuquerque Ambulance and was an emergency medical technician for 14 years, Joseph attended St. Francis Seminary High School in Cincinnati, Ohio and graduated in 1981 from St. Pius High School. A visitation for Joseph will be Sunday afternoon from 2:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at San Martin Catholic Church, 8301 Camino San Martin SW with a Rosary to be recited at 3:00 p.m. by Deacon Pat Santistevan. Sasser -- Juanita E. Sasser, 61, a resident of Mississippi and a former resident of Albuquerque, died Saturday, December 21, 2002. She is survived by her husband, Bobby Sasser of Bogue Chitto, MS; mother, Fedelina Garcia of Albuquerque; two brothers, Larkin Garcia and wife, Renee of Santa Cruz, NM and David Garcia and wife, Jo of Farmington; and two sisters, Louise Shell and husband, Norman of Rio Rancho and Frances Hagel of Lajes AFB, Azores. Mrs. Sasser graduated from Sandia High School in 1960. She worked with T.W.A. for a few years and retired from the U.S. Secret Service with 30 years of service. Mrs. Sasser was very outgoing, lighthearted and very conscientious in caring for her family members. Her laughter and wit will be truly missed by all who knew her. Shebler -- Albert James Shebler, Jr., 82, a resident of Rio Rancho for the past 27 years, and coming to New Mexico from Staten Island, New York, passed away on Sunday, December 22, 2002. Albert was born August 29, 1920 the son of Albert and Margaret Burrell Shebler, Sr. in Staten Island, New York. He served in the US Navy during WWII, served on the Preston and the Dallas destroyers. He was a lifelong member of the American Legion Post 118 of Rio Rancho; loved collecting antiques; was a member of the First Baptist Church of Rio Rancho; he dedicated his last years to the care of his wife, Ruth. Albert was preceded in death by his parents, Albert, Sr. and Margaret; one brother, Arthur; and one grandson, George. He is survived by three children, Janice Sciarrillo and husband, Tony of Albuquerque, James Shebler and wife, Debbie or Rio Rancho, and Judy Valencia and husband, Ambrose of Portland, OR; seven grandchildren, Jessie, Matthew, Joseph, Melissa, Lynn, Michael, and Christina; and nine great-grandchildren, Austin, Zach, James, Brandon, Anthony, Caleb, Preston, Jordyn, and Richard. The Committal Service will be held on Friday, January 10, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe. Smith -- Dirk Norman Smith tragically passed from us early Monday, December 23, 2002. Dirk was born and raised here in Albuquerque and attended Valley High School. He was predeceased by his mother, Genevieve Fisher of Albuquerque and is survived by daughters, Katie, 19, and Megan, 8; father, Norman; stepfather, Bill; four brothers; four sisters; and many family members who are grieving but who know Dirk is in a better place by far. Dirk served for nine years in the USAF as an electronics technician. He attended Fruit Ave. Baptist Church, Shepherd of the Valley, and most recently, La Mesa Presbyterian Church. He had an extraordinary singing voice that he used to praise God. Dirk loved his family and bragged often on his daughters. He was blessedly assured that God loved him and died for him. Services will be held Sunday, December 29, 2002, 3:00 p.m. at La Mesa Presbyterian Church, 7401 Copper NE. Barker and husband, Donald of Mesa, AZ; brothers, Claude Duval of Winter Haven, FL, Mike Duval and wife, Margaret of Tolland, CT; sister-in-laws, Olive Duval of Mt. Dora, FL, Lorraine Duval of Brandonton Beach, FL, Joanne Duval of Winter Haven, FL, Patricia Duval of Florida and Caroline Duval of Manchester, NH. Pierrette and Jimmy married on February 19, 1955 in Manchester, NH. She was very service oriented and an active member of her parish. Pierrette loved doing things for other people, especially her grandchildren. She loved her brothers dearly and was a devoted sister. Memorial rosary will be recited on Sunday at 6:00 p.m. at St. Joseph on the Rio Grande Catholic Church, 5901 St. Joseph Dr. NW. Memorial mass will be held on Monday at 12:00 noon also at the church with Father Frank Prieto, Celebrant. Taylor -- Patrick N. Taylor, 88, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 25, 2002 in the home of Gary and Anna King. Patrick was born in Buffalo, Wyoming on March 17, 1914. He is preceded in death by his wife, Lois, as well as many nieces and nephews. Pat enlisted in the Air Force in 1940 during WWII. He came to Albuquerque in 1940 where he met and later married Lois Taylor, his wife of 55 years. Patrick retired from the Air Force in 1960 and spent an additional ten years in the Air Force Reserves. He achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force Bombardiers Ground Maintenance. He served with General Wainwright in the Philippines and survived the Bataan Death March. Patrick enjoyed telling everyone, Im a U.S. Government Man. He was proud of his service to his country. He was an excellent auto mechanic in the Air Force and after. He continued working on his car and truck within just a few months of his death. Special thanks to Crossroads Hospice, whose dedicated nurses and techs allowed Patrick to die with dignity at home. Service will be held on Monday, December 30, 2002, at 1:00 p.m. at Chester T. French Memorial Mausoleum Chapel, Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menual Blvd. NE, with Pastor Jerome Wade officiating. Friends may visit at Chester T. Wieczorek -- Andrew Wieczorek, 85, a resident of Albuquerque, died Monday, December 23, 2002. He is survived by his daughter, Barbara Dudewicz and husband, Lee of Rio Rancho; sons, Andrew J. Wieczorek and wife, Malinda of Albuquerque and Thomas A. Wieczorek and wife, Janet of Bradenton, FL; grandchildren, Amy Dudewicz of Albuquerque, Carrie Chavez and husband, Jason of Rio Rancho, Greyson Wieczorek, Brooke Johnson, Brittany Johnson and Aubrey Johnson, all of Albuquerque; great-grandchildren, Zachary Williams, Christian Chavez and Kyle Chavez, all of Rio Rancho; sister, Anna Wyliga of Pennsylvania; and brother, Walter Wieczorek and wife, Louise of Camillus, NY. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pearl Wieczorek in 1993. Mr. Wieczorek, a retired USAF MSgt., was a veteran of WWII, the Korean War, and Vietnam War. Yards -- Josephine H. Yards, age 85, passed away peacefully at her home in Albuquerque, December 20, 2002. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Albin Yards. She is survived by daughters, Jan Marie Miller of CO and Marsha Brooks and husband, Dwayne of CA; son-in-law, Don Miller of AZ; grandchildren, Ken and wife, Kim of NV, Peggy of OH, Shannon and husband, Eric of CA, Jeff and wife, Tracey and great-grandchildren, Ryan and Steven all of CA. She was a member of Our Lady of Annunciation Catholic Church, Albuquerque Slavic Club and Albuquerque Bead Society. A resident of Albuquerque since 1950 (originally from Gary, Indiana) she embraced the culture and traditions of the Southwest. She will be greatly missed by family and many dear friends. Yoakam -- Marcella"Marty" Yoakam, age 77, and a resident of Albuquerque for 23 years died Wednesday, December 25, 2002 in a local hospital following an illness. Mrs. Yoakam is survived by her husband, Gene"Pappy" Yoakam; two daughters, Cheryl Sampson, and Jeannie Vesper; four sons, Brett Bentley, Jack Bentley, G. A. Yoakam, and Tim Yoakam; two brothers, Leroy Kee and Albert Kee Jr.; and six grandchildren.
