Lormor -- Donald Edwin Lormor, 83, of Leawood, KS, passed away March 6, 2002, at his home. Don is survived by his wife of almost sixty-one years, Arlene Maring Lormor; son, Gordon and daughter-in-law, Cheryl Lormor of Leawood, Kansas; grandson, Sean Lormor of Leawood, Kansas; sister, Margaret See of Naples, Florida; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, George W. and Blanch Christopher Lormor; sister, Dora Lormor; brothers, Beryl Lormor and Kenneth Lormor. Don was born October 20, 1918 in Mount Auburn, Iowa. Don and Arlene met in high school in Waterloo, Iowa and were married on April 30, 1941. Later that year, they moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico where they spent most of their lives. Don retired after twenty-five years in the banking business as Vice President of the Bank of New Mexico, to become a custom home builder. In addition to Albuquerque, Don was in the building business in Midland, Texas where he and his family lived for several years. Don and Arlene moved to Sun City West, Arizona in June 1996, to enjoy the sunshine and warm winters. In June 2001, he and Arlene came to Kansas to make their home with their son and his family. Don devoted time to many organizations servicing as President of Albuquerque Jaycees, Vice President of New Mexico Jaycee's, leadership roles in the Rio Grande Lion's Club, and Senior Chamber of Commerce. The Albuquerque Jaycee's nominated him for the Distinguished Service Award. Don will be remembered most as a personable, gentle man who was respected for his love and devotion to family and friends, his integrity and his willingness to always give of himself. He liked nothing better than casting his fly rod over the Conejos River or a friendly game of golf. He will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held on Friday March 15, 2002, at 1:00 PM in the Chapel at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. In lieu of flowers, for those desiring, memorial contributions to Odyssey Hospice, 9229 Ward Parkway, Ste. 350, Kansas City, Mo 64114.
