Mccarty -- Helen B. McCarty passed away quietly Friday morning, March 8, 2002 in her beloved home. Helen was born in Pratt, KS on November 16, 1902. She was a graduate of Swarthmore College and received her nurse's training at Columbia University-Presbyterian Hospital School of Nursing in New York City. Helen arrived in Albuquerque with her husband, Joseph C. McCarty, MD in the fall of 1952. Helen was an active member of the community and a longtime member of the League of Women voters. Helen was very concerned about our environment. She diligently practiced conservation in her own life and encouraged those around her to do the same. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to either the Nature Conservancy, 212 East Marcy, Santa Fe, NM 87501, (505) 988-3867 or to the National Recourses Defense Council, 40 West 20th Street, New York, NY 10011. A Memorial Service will be held at Vista Verde Memorial Park, 4310 Sara Road SE, Rio Rancho, NM on Saturday, March 16, 2002 at 1:00 p.m. Cremation arrangements by the Sunrise Society of New Mexico, 891-8200.
