Mcwhorter -- Floyd Davis McWhorter, 76, passed away at Emanuel Medical Center on March 27, 2002. Mr. McWhorter was born in Paducah, TX and moved to Albuquerque, NM. He graduated from high school there in 1942. After high school, he moved to Richmond, CA and worked in the shipyards. In November 1943, he was inducted into the Navy in San Diego, CA, and he trained in the Marin Corp. During WWII, Floyd served in the South Pacific. He was in the invasion of Okinawa and then Iashina. He was transported on the USS Hope Hospital Ship to Oakland, CA. Floyd was discharged in October 1945. He moved to Oregon and later married Elizabeth Cordell in 1965. In 1966 they settled in Turlock/Denair area. He was a road constractor and between 1966 and 1974 he owned a used car lot, and between 1974 and 1989 he was in truck sales. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth McWhorter of Denair, CA; son, Floyd Michael McWhorter of Conroe, TX; daughter, Lesli Gail Taylor of Vancouver, WA; brother, Marlin McWhorter of Bishop, CA; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A Rosary will be recited Monday, April 1, 2002, 7:30 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Denair CA.
