Holland -- Robert Allen Holland, passed away Friday, March 29. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Virginia; his daughters, Catherine Chapman, Karen L. Holland, Carol Shields and Lyn Essmann: his grandsons, Justice A. and Edward Berndt; his brothers, Jay and James Holland; and a large extended family. He served his country in the United States Army through three major conflicts, WWII, Korea and Vietnam, before retiring from active duty. He continued serving his country working for the Department of Defense, where he retired in 1987. He was a lifetime member of Disabled American Veterans, and was an active member supporting many ministries within his Catholic faith. He was an avid golfer and his love for the sport was exceeded only by his love for family and friends. His loving presence will be sorely missed by all who knew him. A rosary will be recited 7:00 pm, Thursday, April 4, 2002 in Palm Chapel of Strong-Thorne Mortuary 1100 Coal Ave. SE. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, April 5, 2002 at Holy Ghost Catholic Church 833 Arizona SE with Fr. Millan Garcia officiating. Interment will follow in Santa Fe National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society. Strong-Thorne Mortuary is handling the arrangements.
