Kornowski -- Edward"Ed" Thomas Kornowski, age 66, passed away on March 26, 2002 at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles, California due to complications from a chemotherapy-stem cell transplant. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he lived in the Philadelphia Area/Chester County for 60 years before moving to Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1996. Ed received both his Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Aeronautical Engineering from Penn State University in 1957 and 1960 respectively. While working for Sandia Labs in Albuquerque in the late 1950's, Ed fell in love with New Mexico. He worked for the General Electric Company for fifteen years and then pursued a career with Esselte (Oxford) Pendaflex for 23 years before retiring in 1995. A man of many hats, Ed Kornowski was an authority and collector of early American folk art and antiques as well as an avid Dixieland Jazz enthusiast and tuba player in the Red Lion Jazz Band in Delaware in the 1980's. In recent years he collected contemporary art and accompanied by his loving wife, Audrey, made weekly trips to Santa Fe Art Gallery openings. A lover of nature, Ed made frequent hikes in the Sandia and Jemez Mountains in New Mexico. He also enjoyed gardening and landscaping and contributed his talents to the Church of the Good Shepherd in Albuquerque by designing and planting the outdoor flower gardens. A dynamic and generous man, he was affectionately known as "Ed the Boss" by his Pennsylvania friends for his enthusiasm in organizing community events and parties. The"Oktoberfest","Alabama Jubilee" and 1920's Theme Events live on in our hearts and memories. Beloved husband, father and friend to many, Ed is survived by his wife, Audrey, son, Lee and daughter, Anne. Memorial Service will be held at the Church of the Good Shepherd 7834 Tennyson Street, NE, Albuquerque on April 7th, 2002 at 12:00 noon (daylight savings time). Ed was a patron of the arts and supporter of the Albuquerque Museum Foundation. The Kornowski Family requests donations are made to the"Edward Kornowski Memorial Fund, Albuquerque Museum Foundation" PO Box 7006, Albuquerque, NM 87194. An outdoor sculpture on permanent exhibition will be dedicated to this magnificent man.
