Roybal -- John Phillip"Pistolo" Roybal II,"...and a time for peace" Ecclesiastes 3:11, passed away in Pleasanton, CA on April 9, 2002 at Valley Care Medical Center. He was a patient at the Pleasanton Dialysis Clinic and the BMA Santa Fe Dialysis Center. John was born in Terrero NM on June 20, 1932; received his early education in Santa Fe Public Schools, graduating from Santa Fe High School; he attended Marquette University and completed classes at Highlands University. Following high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, was stationed in San Diego and served from 1950-1953; he saw duty with the 1st Marine Division in Korea. Following his honorable discharge he returned to Santa Fe and began work with the Department of Corrections, retiring after 29 years. After his retirement, John worked for the Federal Government and for Federal Express. He owned and operated Royson Polygraph Service. He was a member of the B.P.O.E. for 29 years. John and his family were parishioners of St. Francis Cathedral until they moved to California. John is survived by his mother, Elise S. Roybal; wife, Rosina S.; son, John P. Roybal III and Maria; daughters, Rosemary Ortega and husband, Joe, Patricia Gallegos-Leyba and husband, Gene; grandchildren, Patty's, David Lee and Philpatrick, wife, Tina, great-grandchildren, Sebastian, Mikiela and Katalina. Rosemary's, Joseph and Jerome. John III's, John IV, Christine Alexandra, Liberato and Suzette; sisters, Elizabeth Anne Wilder, Lillian Roybal, Wilma Wheeler, Katherine Romero and husband, David, and Judith Miller and husband, Leon; brothers, Harvey and Stephen; aunts, Laura Roybal and Emily Ortiz and husband, Gilbert; uncles, Dan Barrone and wife, Cecilia, and Lenny Barrone; sisters-in-law, Tonie Rodriguez and husband, Felix, Arlene Sisneros and Patricia Trujillo; very special niece and nephew, Martha and Bill Daniels; and comadre, Maida Leyba. John was preceded in death by his father, Johnny (Red) Roybal; grandmother, Christine Frasinias Barrone; uncles, Perez and Arthur Roybal; parents-in-law, Adolfo and Petra Shoemaker; comadre, Senaida Gallegos; and son-in-law, Philip Gallegos. Friends and family will have an opportunity to visit with John at Berardinelli Family Funeral Service on Wednesday, April 17, 2002 beginning at 5:00 p.m. and join us in praying the Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be celebrated Thursday, April 18, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Francis Cathedral. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery. We will gather to share remembrances at the Elks Club at 1:00 p.m. Please join us in bidding John farewell.
