Buenabenta -- Louis Christopher Buenabenta Sr., age 76, a beloved and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend was called home to the Lord our Savior, Wednesday, June 12, 2002, while surrounded by his loving family. Louis was a resident of Bernalillo; a parishioner of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church; a proud Veteran of the United States Navy who served our country during World War II. Louis retired from the Bernalillo School System; he was a Santero, a Historian, Author; and a true Humanitarian. He will always be remembered by his kindness and for his love for live. Louis leaves behind his loving wife of 49 years, Josie Buenabenta of the family home; his wonderful children, Louise Deborah Buenabenta; Jules Buenabenta, Rene Buenabenta, Louis Buenabenta, Jr.; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Manuel Benta; many other relatives and a host of friends. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and by those who knew and loved him. Final viewing for Louis will be Monday morning from 9:00 a.m. to 9:25 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Bernalillo, where the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Michael Buenabenta, Robert Benta, Gene Chavez, Richard Gurule, Frankie Trujillo, and Avelino Antillon. Military honors will be accorded by the New Mexico Honor Guard. Funeral Services are entrusted to Alameda Mortuary, 9420 4th Street NW, 898-3160.
