Clingenpeel -- Donald Oscar"Chief Boats" Clingenpeel, 82, a resident of Albuquerque since 1950, died Monday, August 5, 2002. Don has gone to our Lord, after losing the battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Marjorie Clingenpeel; children, Cynthia Clingenpeel of Belen, Gail Adams and husband, Richard of Yuba City, CA, Ted Clingenpeel and wife, Fern of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Tammie Clingenpeel of Albuquerque, Marc Clingenpeel of Albuquerque, and Shanin Adams of Yuba City, CA; and younger sisters, and; brothers, Arthur Clingenpeel and wife, Elsie of Albuquerque, Leonard Clingenpeel and wife, Nellie of Mapleton, IA, Russel Clingenpeel and his wife, Phyllis of Sioux, NE, Irene McClellan and husband, Ed of Onawa, NE, Leila Shupe and husband, Ernest of Turin, IA; brother and sister-in-law, Norman and Joyce Bugg of Albuquerque; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his older brother, Clarence Clingenpeel of Iowa. Don was born on December 21, 1919 in Sioux City, IA. He served in the United States Navy for 20 years, retiring in 1960, making Albuquerque his home. During his naval career, Don survived the Pearl Harbor attack while aboard the USS West Virginia on December 7, 1941 receiving the Purple Heart for his injuries. In 1961, he became employed with the US Postal Service in Albuquerque and retired after 17 years of service. Donald will be sorely missed by those who knew him especially for his knowledge and character. Special thanks to the Hematology VA clinic 6D and Hospice of Vista Care, VA Hospital, Ward 4D and Shelly. Services will be held Saturday, August 10, 2002, 10:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, with Bishop Roger Rigby officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul NE. Pallbearers will be; George Meese, Dino Morino, Marc Clingenpeel, Louie Armijo, Zakery Sprung, Rod Martinez, and A.B. Trammell. Friends may visit French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, Friday, August 9, 2002, 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to Blinded Veterans Association-135, 1501 San Pedro SE, 87108.
