Meyer -- Nancy Ellen Meyer, passed away suddenly, but peacefully, Tuesday morning, August 27, 2002, following a brief illness. Nancy was born December 11, 1918 in Louisville, KY, the daughter of John and Florence Stone. She met Harold R. Meyer in 1941 at a USO dance while he was stationed at Fort Knox, KY and they remained sweethearts during his years of service in the Second Armoured Division. They married after the war, in October 1945 and lived in Ypsilanti, MI until their retirement in 1977 when they moved to Rio Rancho, NM. Nancy was a career secretary, spending the majority of her working years at Eastern Michigan University and the University of Michigan. She and Harold had 49 loving years together until his death in 1995. Nancy is survived by their only son, Malcolm Meyer and his wife, Sue of Ypsilanti, MI. Both Harold and Nancy were very active members of the Rio Rancho United Methodist Church. Nancy served as President and Secretary over the years for the United Methodist Women (UMW). She also had been active with and loved her work with the various church youth groups. She was an avid crafter and quilter and an active member of the Tumbleweeds. She and Harold had been active with the US Army 2nd Armoured Division Veterans and with Bell Telephone Pioneers. She was a loving and dedicated wife, a caring and nurturing mother, a good friend to her many friends and neighbors. She loved to grow roses but her greatest love was surrounding herself with young people. A Memorial Service will be held at the Rio Rancho United Methodist Church, 1652 Abrazo Road NE, Rio Rancho, NM on Saturday, August 31, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. with a reception to follow in the Fellowship Hall. She will be interred, with her loving husband, Harold, at the Santa Fe National Cemetery, 501 North Guadulupe, Santa Fe, NM on Tuesday, September 3, 2002. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations, be made in Nancy's name, to the Rio Rancho United Methodist Church Youth Groups. Cremation arrangements by the Sunrise Society of NM, 891-8200.
