Malone -- Roy (Sam) Malone, 73, a resident of Albuquerque since 1957, passed away Friday, September 6, 2002 after a courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife, Belva Malone of Albuquerque; son, Wes Malone of Albuquerque; daughters, Cristie Ortiz and husband, Henry of Albuquerque and Lori Hargues and husband, Ken of Carlsbad; niece, Connie Malone of Chicago, IL; grandchildren, Lee Knight of Ft. Riley, KS; Lance Ortiz of Kalamazoo, MI, Jeremy Knight, Morgan Ortiz, Jason Hargues, Gerad Malone and Meghan Rae Malone, all of Albuquerque, and Amber Hargues of Carlsbad, NM; great grandchildren, Joshua, Landen, and Sam; and brothers, Terry and Jay Malone of Amarillo, TX. Sam retired from Albuquerque Public Schools in 1987 after 30 years of coaching, teaching, and as a principal. Sam and Belva enjoyed their retirement traveling, golfing, and being with grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Memorial services will be held Monday, September 9, 2002, 10:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE with Dr. Robert J. Butler officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to New Mexico Girls and Boys Ranch, 6209 Hendrix NE, 87110 or to Lovelace Hospice, 4503 Gibson SE, Siesta Hills, Bldg. 1, 87108.
