Vancuren -- Talmage Theodore VanCuren, Jr. (Ted), 57, died suddenly on Friday, December the 6, 2002 while hunting for pheasant in Medford, Oklahoma, with friends including his beloved nephew, Rob Anderson and his very close friend, Pat Riley. He was a passionate outdoorsman and avid hunter and fisherman who spent vacations and holidays pursuing his love for sport with friends and family in his motor home as they traveled about the country. Ted was born in Wheeling, West Virginia on April 2, 1945. He was preceded in death by; his father, Talmage Theodore VanCuren and his mother Katheryn Elizabeth Young VanCuren. He is lovingly survived by his wife, Sallie Anne; and four children, Serena Anne Weh and her husband, Pete of Los Lunas, Celia Dawn Brown of Ocala, Florida, Kelli Marie VanCuren of Los Lunas, and Talmage Theodore VanCuren, III (Teddy) and his fiancé, Cynthia Mendoza of Belen. He also left behind three sisters, Pride Anderson of Dallas, Texas, Gay Davis and Faith Goad both of Carlsbad, New Mexico and many loving in-laws, nieces and nephews. He will be missed by those he held as most precious; his grandchildren Morgan, Austin, Eric, Trace, Christopher, Abigail, Tony and one on the way. Many others called him Dad or Grandpa and will miss him including; Jason and Kari Rizzo, and their children, Katie and Timmy, Shawna Paul and Alan Harrington. Ted served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and Vietnam Service Medal with one bronze star. He was honorably discharged in April 1970. Ted spent many years working in the construction industry as a site supervisor and was a master craftsman in his trade. In the spring of 1997, Ted rededicated his life to Christ and worked tirelessly to share his faith and passion for God with others. He was an active member of the Peralta Memorial United Methodist Church. Ted served on the Board of Trustees and the Future Facilities Committee. He was recently appointed to the Staff Parish Relations Committee and was admired and loved by all who served with him in his discipleship. Services will be held Friday, 10:00 a.m., at Peralta Memorial United Methodist Church, 25 Wesley Road, with Pastor Dave Blackwell officiating. Pallbearers will be Talmage ťTeddyť VanCuren, Rob Anderson, Pete Weh, Jason Rizzo, Steve Thompson, Allen Jameson and Alan Harrington. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a memorial for Ted at Peralta Memorial United Methodist Church, 25 Wesley Road, Peralta, NM 87042 or to Parents Reaching Out, 1920 Columbia SE, Albuquerque, NM 87106.
