Gomez -- Leopoldo Gomez was born April 20, 1927 to Mr. and Mrs. Estanislado and Alfreda Gomez, passed away on December 7, 2002. He was raised on a farm in the town of San Pablo, NM in the Northern part of New Mexico. He was raised with one brother, Ismael Gomez; and six sisters, Senaida Gonzalez, and Petra Apodaca, Florentina Gomez, who are no longer with us. His surviving sisters, Luisita Apodaca, Magdalena Quintana, Fedelina Crespin; and one uncle Lorenzo Aragon. Leopoldo and Maria M. Gomez raised five sons and two daughters, Jose R. Gomez, Freddie Gomez, Pablo E. Gomez, Alice Gomez, Angie Gomez, Blas J. ťJerryť Gomez (deceased), and Richard A. Tony Gomez; 16 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren. He was Godfather to many, and a much loved uncle to countless nephews and nieces, cousins and friends. Leopoldo Gomez served in the Army during WWII and held the rank of Private 1st Class. His job description was Rifleman in the European Theater, guarding prisoners and also participated in Drill and Military Formation. Leopoldo was active in the Disabled American Veterans Honor Guard and he loved woodworking, dancing, casinos, and making friends. Services will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 4th and Stover SW. Two Rosaries will be recited, one on Tuesday, December 10, 2002 at 7:00 p.m., the second on Wednesday, December 11, 2002 at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 12, 2002, with burial following at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Tony Gomez, Leo Gomez, Jose R. Gomez, Jose R. Gomez Jr., Freddie Gomez, Freddie Gomez, Jr., Michael Chavez, Jessie Hernandez, Mario Gomez, Joseph Gomez, Steve Armijo, and David Anzures. Arrangements by Direct Funeral Services, 2919 4th ST. NW.
