Martin -- Harold E. Martin, born October 16,1917, died recently on September 10, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Jean; daughter, Betty Tantimonaco and her two daughters, Ashley and Heather of El Paso; son, Sam and daughter-in-law, Gail Martin and their three children, Kristopher, Kevin, and Kimberly; daughter-in-law, Linda Martin and her two sons, Garrett and Travis. He is also survived by his sister, Lucille Cooper of Portales; and several nieces in New Mexico. He was preceded in death by his son, David, in September 1996; his brother, Hayden, and his parents, Sam and Amye Martin. He was born in Celina, Texas, and has been a resident of Albuquerque since 1952. After attending New Mexico State University (majoring in Animal Husbandry), he worked for AT&T as a lineman until called to duty in the Army in October 1941. Harold (known as Hal to many friends) served duty in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Central Europe and the Ardennes until being discharged as a First Lieutenant having revieved an Asiatic Pacific Theater ribbon, and an EAME Theater Ribbon with five bronze stars in March 1945. Harold and Jean were married upon his discharge and soon moved to the southwest. They spent time farming in Eastern New Mexico until he resumed his telephone career in May 1949, as a lineman with Mountain States Telephone and Telegraph. He worked his way around the entire state of New Mexico, making many friends and moving on up through the telephone company until he retired as a Network Staff Manager in the Engineering Department at Mountain Bell in September, 1974 after almost 39 years. After retiring, Harold and Jean lived on a farm in the South Valley for many years raising cattle and their pet llamas. He loved his workshop and was always busy fixing or making something. He also enjoyed camping, fishing, golf and sports. He was a wonderful husband and father and will be missed by his family. During their 56 years of marriage Harold helped Jean with her annual participation in the Weems Art Fest. Cremation has taken place, and per Harold's wishes no Memorial Service is being held. His remain will be interred in the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
