Shepherd -- Longtime Albuquerque resident Pat Wood Shepherd, 71, died Thursday, September 6, 2001 in her sleep, following a long illness. Born in Pawhuska, Oklahoma on February 13, 1930, Mrs. Shepherd attended the University of Oklahoma, then moved to Los Angeles where she married Clovis R. Shepherd and had two children, moving to Cincinnati in 1967. Mrs. Shepherd attended the University of Cincinnati while raising her small children, ultimately receiving her M.S.W. from Ohio State University. She then helped found the counseling training program for the University of Cincinnati School of Medicine's Department of Family Medicine's residency program. Upon the retirement of Mrs. Shepherd's husband, Clovis, the couple moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where she established a private practice and enjoyed the green chiles, wide skies and high desert beauty, and continued her lifelong love of reading. Mrs. Shepherd impressed all she met with her irresistible combination of humor, determination, penetrating intellect, and graciousness. Mrs. Shepherd was preceded in death by her husband Clovis, in 1995. She will be deeply missed by her friends and by her daughter Kate and husband Aidan Bird. and grandchildren Eagan and Emma Bird, all of Berkeley, CA; son Chris Shepherd of Shell Knob, MO; and sisters Sue Wood and Lu Hulse, also of Shell Knob, MO. A memorial gathering will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 15, 2001 at her home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
