Baca -- Nestora Baca, 69, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, September 11, 2001. She was born December 6, 1931 in Torreon, NM. Nestora and her husband Jimmy resided in Estancia, NM for many years and raised their five children there. She was a devout Catholic and an active member of St. Peter and St. Paul Church in Estancia and later at Our Lady of Fatima in Albuquerque. Nestora was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy. She is survived by her loving children, Rose Dillard and husband, Terry of San Antonio, TX; Delores Baca of Albuquerque; Peter Baca of Washington, D.C.; Paul Baca of Albuquerque; Christy Baca-Jones and husband, Brian of Salt Lake City, UT; grandson, John Dillard; four sisters and six brothers, Monica Chavez; Manuel Chavez; Cecelia Sanchez; Juanita Chavez; Alonzo Chavez; Carmel Chavez; Pablo Chavez; Juan Chavez; Joe Chavez and Susie Perea; and a very large extended family. Rosary will be recited Thursday, 7:00 p.m., at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 4020 Lomas NE. Mass will be celebrated Friday, 12:00 noon, at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, with Father Francis X. Eggert, Celebrant. Interment will follow at Estancia Municipal Cemetery, Estancia, NM. Bagley -- Frances Edith Burns Bagley passed away Tuesday at age 91 in Albuquerque. Fran was born in Alberta, Canada. The first of four children, each born in a different Canadian railroad town as her father, Francis"Pop" Burns of England and mother, Edith Polonas of Illinois moved westward with the Canadian Pacific Railway. In the 1920s, they settled in Oregon first Salem, then Portland where she attended Franklin HS. Later, she married Donald K. Bagley and lived in Medford, Portland and in the 1950s Bend, Oregon where she helped in their oil distribution business. Fran enjoyed horseback riding and later golf, bowling, gardening, letter writing and organizing family gatherings and picnics over her many years in Oregon. 20 years after her husband's passing, she moved to Albuquerque in 1990 to be closer to her son's family. Here she enjoyed holidays and gatherings, especially with the Moses family. Francis is survived by her son, James D. and his wife, Joanne Moses Bagley; grandsons, Justin of Albuquerque and Jeremiah of Colorado; nephews, Jerry and David Wigg and their families. She will be laid to rest at Lincoln Memorial Cemetery in Portland, OR with her husband, siblings, and young daughters, Susan and Patricia. She will be remembered as a once outgoing, enthusiastic and active woman quieted by the years, but always remaining strong willed and devoted to family and dear friends.

Byrd -- Robert L. Byrd, Sr.,"Bob", 79, passed away Sunday, September 9, 2001 at Sandia Hospice, after a long battle with a neurological disease. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mary Pat Byrd of the family home; sons, Robert L. Byrd, Jr."Boby" and wife, Marvalee of Mesa, AZ, Stephen Byrd and wife, LouAnne of Albuquerque, Thomas Byrd and wife, Valerie of Amarillo, TX; daughters, Sue Kline, Anita Valentine and husband, Doug, Helen Knee and husband, Steve, and Deanna Byrd-Thompson, all of Albuquerque, Mary Pat (Sugar) Varbel and husband, Ray of Los Lunas, NM, Nancy Moke and husband, Will of San Antonio, TX, Vicki Schmahl and husband, Pete of Littleton, CO, and Cathy Melloy and husband, Dan of Tijeras, NM; 47 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Richard Byrd and five grandchildren. Mr. Byrd lived in Albuquerque for 46 years with a five-year residency in Los Lunas. He was employed by Sandia Laboratories for 33 years as a Security Inspector. Mr. Byrd served as Secretary Treasurer, Vice President, and President of the International Guards Union of America for several years and was Regional Director of Region 6. He served as Staff Sergeant in the US Army Air Corps during WWII in the Asiatic Theater of Operation on a B24 as an engineer and gunner. Mr. Byrd received the Good Conduct Medal, The Air Medal, American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with 1 Bronze Star, and Victory Medal. He also served in the Aleutians. Mass will be celebrated Thursday, September 13, 2001, 10:00 a.m., at Holy Ghost Church, 833 Arizona SE, with Father Rick Zerwas, Celebrant. Cardin -- Robert Kenneth Cardin, age 54, a resident of Monument, CO, went to be in the presence of his Heavenly Father on Monday, September 10, 2001. Christy -- Mary Belle Christy, age 90, died peacefully on September 10, 2001 at the Montebello where she had been a resident for two years. She was born on January 3, 1911 to Oscar and Annie Wood in Mexia, TX. She attended school in Mart, TX and Business School in Dallas, TX. Mary retired from the Federal Government where she had worked for the Soil Conservation Service and The Bureau of Indian Affairs. Mary was a long-time resident of Albuquerque and was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph B. Christy, in 1986. She is survived by her stepdaughter, Sharon Neely and her husband, Larry of Albuquerque. In addition, she is survived by nieces, Annie Wells, Bessie Thomas, Tommie Wells, Dainah Chandler, Linda Eaton, Lavette Teer and Rosemary Johnson, all of Texas. She is also survived by nephews; Alfred McElroy and Bernie McElroy, also of Texas. There are three step-grandchildren, and five great step grandchildren in addition. Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, September 13, 2001 at Sunset Memorial Park. The Reverend, Carl Soderburg will be officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park. Cleaveland -- Alice Ann Cleaveland, Ally as she is fondly called by her friends and family, died Tuesday, September 11, 2001 at Albuquerque Care Center where she had been for the last two years. She was the widow of Wallace R. Cleaveland who preceded her in death two years and three days ago. Mrs. Cleaveland was a wonderful wife, mother, teacher and friend. She taught in the Albuquerque Public School system and wrote two text books with workbooks. She is survived by her daughter, Kathryn Cleaveland-Tracy and her partner, Suzanne Blanchet; son, Wallace R. Cleaveland, Jr. and his wife, Patricia Cleaveland; and three beautiful grandchildren, Stephanie Cleaveland-Elsaesser and her husband, Croft and their six week old son, Armin Caven Elsaesser, Allison Tracy, and Stacey Cleaveland-Snowden and her husband, Steven. Hopler -- Oliver Edward Hopler Jr., 86, a resident of Albuquerque since 1932, died Tuesday, September 11, 2001. He is survived by his loving wife; Gloria Bloom-Hopler, daughter, Beth Lois Stitt, and son in law, Allen Stitt of California, two grandchildren; Edward Allen Stitt and wife, Vilma, and Yvonne Sousa of California; three great grandchildren, John Allen and Christopher Sousa, and Edward Allen Stitt Jr. Mr. Hopler (Edward) was preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years, Rosemarie. Edward was born in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Albuquerque High School and attended the University of New Mexico. He had several businesses and was also a General Building Contractor. He also worked as an engineer for Lockheed Aircraft and Lockheed Missile and Space for 23 years, retiring in January 1971. He was a member of Temple Lodge #6. Graveside services will be held Friday, September 14, 1:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE with Chaplain, Paul Gleason officiating. Landrith -- Stanley T. Landrith, a resident of Albuquerque since 1946, passed away Saturday, September 8, 2001. He was born in Sapulpa, OK, attended Kemper Military Institute and Virginia Military Institute. He enlisted in the Army and served in WWII and was held as a prisioner of war in Germany. After the war, he attended Oklahoma University. He moved to Albuquerque and then graduated from UNM in 1948. He was employed by Sandia National Labs for 34 years. He was an active member of the Palo Duro Senior Center where he was interested in stamps, computers and the French language classes. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Roberta Stimmel Landrith; daughters, Dana Landrith Goldberg and her husband, Steve, Kimberly Landrith Hegermiller and her husband, Don; grandchildren, Clare and Donald Hegermiller and Glynn and Max Goldberg. Martinez -- Robert Kenneth Martinez, 40, born in Santa Fe, NM, has gone to be with the Lord September 8, 2001. He was a longtime resident of Albuquerque and is survived by his daughter, Talise and son, Robert Martinez Jr.; parents, Wilma and Joe R. Mayer -- Mary Alice Mayer, 69, passed away Tuesday, September 11, 2001 after a courageous battle with cancer. She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Charles A. Mayer, D.D.S., five daughters, Kathleen Mayer and husband, David Wetzel, Julie DePree and husband Mark, Jean Mayer and husband, Scott Guthrie, Elizabeth Applebee and husband, Carlton, and Mary Nell and husband, Tom Billstrand; six treasured grandchildren, Joel, Amy, and Thomas DePree, Lauren Turnley and Brian and Timmy Billstrand; brothers, Fran, Jack and Dick Linsmeier; mother, Lillian Linsmeier; and the beloved members of all of these families. In addition, Mary had a very large extended family in her true and dear friends. Mary was born May 30, 1932 in Menominee, MI. She received her nursing degree from Mt. Sinai Hospital in Milwaukee, WI in 1954 and moved to Albuquerque with her husband and two children in 1957. Mary was an avid, enthusiastic tennis player and was a member of the Tennis Club of Albuquerque for 27 years. Every life Mary touched was blessed by her presence on this earth. She loved life, her family and friends to the fullest. She showed compassion to anyone who was suffering and freely gave her beautiful smile to anyone who was in need. Mary contributed to the community throughout her life. In her most recent years, she volunteered at Project Share, she delivered for Meals on Wheels and drove for Catholic Social Services. She was a member of the Newman Center Faith Sharing group for nine years and it was her deep faith in the Catholic religion that helped her through these difficult times. The world is a better place because of Mary. Her family and friends are blessed with the memories of her kindness, generosity, compassion, courage and her beautiful smile. She will be greatly missed by all. A prayer service will be held Friday, September 14, 2001, 6:00 p.m., and a funeral Mass Saturday, September 15, 2001 at 2:00 p.m., at the Newman Center, 1815 Las Lomas Rd. NE, 87106. Mcclure -- William Scott McClure, 85, born November 16, 1915 in Detroit, MI, died Monday, September 10, 2001. He is survived by his brothers, John H. McClure of Albuquerque and Fred H. McClure of Pacifica, CA; sister-in-law, Cornelia R. McClure; sister, Mary A-. McClure of Albuquerque; and nieces and nephews. Mr. McClure retired to Albuquerque in 1975 from Cleveland, OH where he lived for 47 years. He was employed in the Finance Department of the City of Cleveland Heights. Mr. McClure volunteered his services as a classroom assistant for about 15 years at Queen of Heaven School and had been a member of the parish since 1975. He was a veteran of WWII having served from 1942 until 1945 in General Patton's Headquarters and participated in the Normandy Invasion of Europe. Nazorek -- Alex Nazorek was born August 7, 1948, in Millon, England. His parents are January and Gladys Nazorek. He has one sister named Chris Lustyk and one brother, Mark Nazorek. When Alex was ten years old, he and his family came on a ship to America. It took them seven days to reach the United States. When they arrived in New York, they moved to Chicago, Illinois. He grew up in Chicago and attended high school there. He then served in the Vietnam War from 1966 through 1969. Years later, in 1984, he moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, to start a new life, where he met Marilyn Salazar and married her August 23, 1986. A year later they had their first child named Sarah. After that, five years later in 1992, they moved to Rio Rancho, New Mexico, and had their second child, named Alycia. His favorite sports were baseball, basketball and football. His favorite hobby was singing and visiting his friends in Northern New Mexico Mountains where he enjoyed nature and the outdoors. Alex Nazorek died on September 11, 2000. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2001 at 3:00 p.m. in Palm Chapel of Strong-Thorne Mortuary 1100 Coal Ave SE. A reception will follow in the chapel.

Otero -- David Otero April 5, 1934 - September 13, 2000 In Loving Memory of My own dear Dad!!! Otero -- Shawn Schwarze (Otero) died at the age of 36 on Monday, September 3, 2001 from complications due to a brain injury he sustained six years prior. He is survived by his two children, Taeru and Vaughn; and his many loving family and friends here in New Mexico and in Hawaii. He graduated from Del Norte HS in 1984. Pacheco -- Mrs. Guadalupe Pacheco, 63, a resident of Bernalillo, New Mexico passed away on September 11, 2001. Mrs. Pacheco is the beloved wife of 50 years to Mr. Emilio Pacheco. She is also survived by three daughters, Elida Canales and husband, Manuel, Luz Velazco and husband, Jose Luis and Adriana Leal and husband Antonio; one son, Juan Pacheco; a sister, Sebastiana Flores; 14 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mrs. Pacheco was a member of the Catholic Church. Schroeder -- Margaret I. Schroeder, 97, born August 8, 1904, longtime resident of Albuquerque, passed away, Sunday, September 9, 2001 at Manzano del Sol Nursing Facility. Shepherd -- Longtime Albuquerque resident Pat Wood Shepherd, 71, died Thursday, September 6, 2001 in her sleep, following a long illness. Born in Pawhuska, Oklahoma on February 13, 1930, Mrs. Shepherd attended the University of Oklahoma, then moved to Los Angeles where she married Clovis R. Shepherd and had two children, moving to Cincinnati in 1967. Mrs. Shepherd attended the University of Cincinnati while raising her small children, ultimately receiving her M.S.W. from Ohio State University. She then helped found the counseling training program for the University of Cincinnati School of Medicine's Department of Family Medicine's residency program. Upon the retirement of Mrs. Shepherd's husband, Clovis, the couple moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, where she established a private practice and enjoyed the green chiles, wide skies and high desert beauty, and continued her lifelong love of reading. Mrs. Shepherd impressed all she met with her irresistible combination of humor, determination, penetrating intellect, and graciousness. Mrs. Shepherd was preceded in death by her husband Clovis, in 1995. She will be deeply missed by her friends and by her daughter Kate and husband Aidan Bird. and grandchildren Eagan and Emma Bird, all of Berkeley, CA; son Chris Shepherd of Shell Knob, MO; and sisters Sue Wood and Lu Hulse, also of Shell Knob, MO. A memorial gathering will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 15, 2001 at her home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Shibata -- Walter D. Shibata passed away on September 10, 2001 in Albuquerque, NM following a long illness. He was 86. Cremation has taken place. Walter was born on July 8, 1915 to Ushijiro (Roy) and Yei Shibata. He attended schools in Gallup, NM and Walsenburg, CO. Prior to World War II, he worked as a mechanic for Navajo Chevrolet. During the War, he served as a Corporal in the United States Army with the famous 442nd Regimental Combat Team. He was captured by enemy forces and taken prisoner of war on June 26, 1944 near Suvereto, Italy. He was awarded the Bronze Star. After the War, Walter was employed as a mechanic for Central Motor Company, which later became Gurley Motors, until his retirement in 1979. Following his retirement, he enjoyed fishing with his friends and gardening with his wife. He is survived by Anne, his wife of 54 years; his sons, Ronald and Randolph; Ron's wife Lisa, and grandchildren, Lara and Jason; his brother, Tom, all of Albuquerque, NM and sister, Mary Shigenaka of Lake Forest, IL. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at Sacred Heart Cathedral, 415 East Green Ave. in Gallup, New Mexico at 10:00 a.m., September 15, 2001, with Father Jim Walker, Celebrant. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery in Gallup. A memorial service will be held at the Church of the Risen Savior, 7701 Wyoming NE at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 22, 2001. Mass to be celebrated by Father Richard Olona and Father Douglas Mitchell. Trujillo -- Tillie T. Trujillo, 94, beloved and devoted mother, grandmother and sister was called home to be with the Lord, Wednesday, September 12, 2001, while surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Trujillo was preceded in death by her husband, Pedro Pablo Trujillo in 1996. A Rosary will be recited this evening at 7:00 p.m. at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church. Funeral Services will be conducted Friday morning at 9:00 a.m. also at the church.
