Miller -- James R. Miller, a resident of Albuquerque since 1946, passed away Saturday, July 14, 2001. He is survived by his son, Douglas Miller and family of Ventura, CA; daughter, Jamie Taylor and family of Albuquerque, four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and sister, Mary Ann Crooker and husband, Don of Ohio. He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Georgene; and their son, Jacques. Born in October of 1914 in Shelby, OH. Jim graduated from Shelby High School. He then attended Allentown, PA Prep and graduated from Ohio State University with a degree in Business Administration in 1938. While attending OSU Jim was a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity and a varsity football letterman (scoring two touchdowns defeating Michigan in 1937). He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII as an Executive Officer on two LCIs in the Pacific Theater. His business career included management positions with RCA Records Division, Midland Specialty (electronics), William Volker, Hotpoint, IDS, Fortis Financial Services and Hutchinson Fruit Company. Jim's community activities included his life membership in Optimist International, the Kit Carson Council of the Boy Scouts of American, the Board of the Martinez Town House of Neighborhood Services, the New Mexico Beta and Ohio State Alumni Associations, VFW, American Legion, the Albuquerque Country Club, and as an election Judge for the Republican Party. Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be held Wednesday, 10:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE. Interment of cremains will take place at 1:00 p.m., at Santa Fe National Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made to the Youth Fund of the Optimist Club of Albuquerque, Attn: Jim Hall #112, 3636 Menaul NE, 87112 or to James R. Miller Scholarship Fund at Ohio State University, Office of University Development, Room 113, 2400 Olentangy River Road, Columbus, OH, 43210.
