Lippert -- Gaylord Edwin Lippert was born in Huron, SD on March 23, 1937. The U.S. Air Force brought him to Albuquerque in 1956. Gaylord used his mechanical expertise while employed with Brock's Auto Service and the General Services Administration(US Government) where he retired in 1997. His passion, however, was stock-car racing and he became well-known for his numerous stock-car racing championships. Gaylord was bitten by the racing bug in 1956 when he won his first race in a 1939 Ford Coupe. He continued racing locally and also competed in the annual Pike's Peak Hill Climb held in Colorado Springs. Gaylord managed Speedway Park from 1978 until 1981. Gaylord's racing career continued through the late 1980's and he was never far away from the racing scene. Gaylord also enjoyed snowmobiling, motorcycling, and spending time at Elephant Butte Lake on his personal water craft. Gaylord fought a long but brave battle with cancer which finally ended on Saturday, July 14, 2001. Gaylord touched many lives over his 64 years and his passing will leave a void in the hearts of all who knew him. He is survived by his wife, Karen Sanner-Lippert; mother Alma Owens; daughters Wanda Lippert and her husband Robert Giacopasi, Riva Farrell and her husband David; son, Kurt Lippert; stepsons Jay Sanner and his wife Michelle, Jeff Sanner and his wife Shannon; brother, Dennis Owens; grandchildren, Katherine, Brennan, Jordan, Jacob, Jessica, Jordan, Cullen, Derek, and Jolie; and many other loving family members and close friends. Services will be held Tuesday, July 17, 2001, 1:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE with Pastor John Raess officiating. Interment will take place at Sunset Memorial Park. Friends may visit French Mortuary Chapel on Monday, July 16, 2001, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., or on Tuesday, July 17, 2001, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, Attn: Carla Ramirez, 5800 Lomas Blvd. NE, 87110.
