Huffman -- James "Lewie" (Papa) Huffman, 100, a resident of Albuquerque since 1930, passed away peacefully with family at his side. Born in Kirbyville, TX, he was the youngest of nine children born to Frances and Millard Huffman. Mr. Huffman is survived by his son, James L. Huffman Jr. and wife, Sally of Tucson, AZ; daughter, Carol Zimmerman and husband, Roy of N. Ogden, UT; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and numerous friends. "Papa" lived at his home with his granddaughter, Kari Biernacki and husband, Buzz. His homecare during the day was lovingly provided by Nancy Oldfield and Nannette Macias-Ray. Mr. Huffman was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Delphia, and son, Ronald. In 1930, he entered an apprenticeship program and began working for the Albuquerque Journal/Tribune as a Stereo-typer and retired 42 years later. A wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend he exemplified the values of family and kindness each day of his life. Despite being over 100 years old he enjoyed traveling, visiting and reminiscing. He often shared stories of watching Babe Ruth play baseball, meeting "Pretty-boy" Floyd, and hearing about the Titanic the day it sank. He loved meeting new people and having them try to guess how old he was. After they guessed once or twice, his eyes would twinkle and he would tell them he was over 100. His smile and warmth will be missed. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, 11:00 a.m., at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul NE, with Mr. John Hunt officiating. Friends may visit French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd. NE, Wednesday, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The family appreciates Sandia Hospice for making his last weeks comfortable and pain free. French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd. NE.
