Smith -- Mary Jane Auten Smith, 74, a resident of Albuquerque from 1963 to 1980 and from late 1996 to the present. She died and went home to Jesus on Friday night, January 12, 2001, following a long illness. She is survived by her husband, Dennis H. (Chris) Smith of Albuquerque; son, Dwight E. Auten and partner, Thomas L. Decker of Albuquerque; ex-husband, Edgar Frank Auten of Moriarty, NM; proxy parents; Frank J. Chavez and wife, Louise Jane of Cochiti Pueblo, NM; father�in-law, Horace H. Smith and partner, Barbara Romero of Belen, NM; sister, Geraldine F. Snyder and husband, Bill of Harrisburg, PA; sister-in-law, Janis Prudhomme and husband, Ray Prudhomme, and Anne C. Bahm and husband, Ron of Albuquerque; brother-in-law, Terry Smith and wife, Susan of Albuquerque; and many other family and friends. Mary Jane was preceded in death by her son, Frank LeRoy Auten and by her parents, Francis Bostdorf and Beatrice Butler and mother-in-law, Agnes Irene Smith. Mary Jane Auten Smith taught Kindergarten at Santo Domingo Public Schools from 1974-1980. She received a BS degree in 1974 from the University of NM and was six credit hours short from receiving her Masters in Education with emphasis on reading. She was a member of Pi Lamdba Theta since 1974. A Memorial Service will take place at Oasis Family Church, 4800 Lomas NE, Albuquerque, NM with Pastor Tom Undieme officiating. The service will start at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 19,2001. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Lung Association.
