Aragon -- Manuelita "Mamie" Elvira Aragon, 59, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque died, Tuesday, January 16, 2001. She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Demetrio Aragon of Albuquerque; daughter, Diana M. Mizusawa and husband, Edward of Albuquerque; mother, Ophelia Herrera of Inglewood, CO; grandchildren, Zachary, Allie Meisha, Chloe and Joshua; brothers, Alex Herrera, Jr. and wife, Betty, Arthur Herrera, Danny Herrera and wife, Sharon and Ricky Herrera and wife, Susan all of Denver, CO; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Alex Herrera; and sister, Florenia Rivera. Mrs. Aragon attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. She enjoyed gardening, decorating and southwest art. She loved music, dancing and shopping. Mamie loved to be with people. She loved spending time with her grandchildren who were the light of her life. She was known for her cheerfulness and generosity toward those she loved. She gave of herself unselfishly and all those she touched were enhanced by her life. She will be dearly missed by all of her family and friends. Services will be held, Saturday 11:00 a.m. at French Mortuary-Westside Chapel, 9300 Golf Course Rd. Barnett -- Barclay K. Barnett, "Barc", born May 20, 1924 an Albuquerque resident since 1954 died January 11, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Carol Barnett; a son, Luke Barnett and wife, Pam of Albuquerque; a daughter, Lee Malone and husband, Colonel Tim Malone of the U.S. Air Force currently serving in Germany; and grandchildren, Sarah and Matthew Malone. He is also survived by seven nieces and nephews. Barc attended Oregon State University, Notre Dame University and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Colorado. He was a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. Through his ownership of Barnett and Co. he was a manufactures representative for commercial heating and cooling systems. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy and concluded his tour of duty as a submarine crewman. Barc was a compassionate and gentle man who never said an unkind word about anyone. He was a caring and generous father and husband and he will be deeply missed by his family. He loved playing golf, racket ball, skiing and working out at the Sports and Wellness Mid Town. Bergkvist -- Mary J. Bergkvist, 77, a resident Albuquerque since 1941, died on January 16, 2001. She was born in Grinnell, IA and was a homemaker. Her husband, Joel E. Bergkvist II preceded her in death in 1991. Mrs. Bergkvist is survived by four children, John J. Bergkvist of Albuquerque, Patricia Marie Nickels and husband, Tom of Houston, TX, Joel Bergkvist and wife, Beverly of Datil, NM and Mary Ann Stewart and husband, Gerald Skiver of Dallas, TX; three brothers, Gerald Brown and wife, Margaret of Albuquerque, Bernard Brown of Mountainair, NM, and Charles Brown of El Segundo, CA; and a sister, Catherine Carnevalli of Albuquerque. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren, John, Mark, Debra, Jeremiah, Catherine, Jessi, Andrew, Cindy, Linda, Carolyn, Joel, Elaine, Tim, Joan, Matthew, Jeanne, Theresa, and Mary Kay; 19 great-grandchildren including, Trevor, Joshua, Stephanie, Donald, Jordan, Jamie, Shelby, Tommy, Michael, Jackson, Faith, Rochell, Scott, Eric, and Sarah; and one-great-great-grandchild, Morgan. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Chapel of Sandia, 7601 Wyoming Blvd. NE. Connell -- Alice Jewell Connell, 84, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away at her home on January 17, 2001 after a long illness. She was born on November 1, 1916 in Fort Sumner, NM to the late Arthur J. and Blanche (Lefler) Evans. She moved to Elida, NM where she graduated high school. In the early 1940's, she and her daughter, Frances, moved to Albuquerque, where she worked for Sandia National Labs for 20 years. Over the years, Alice was very active in the Camera Club and a lifetime member of the Coronado Club. She was also"mother" to many, many cats. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Arthur Q. Evans and Donald C. Evans, and sister Jeanine Evans. Alice is survived by her daughter, Frances McAbel, of Portland, OR; grandson, John McAbel and his wife, Nancy Pechman, of Vancouver, WA; great-grandson, Ryan McAbel, of Vancouver, WA; sisters, Vivian Watson, of Roswell; and Lucile Dunlap, of Albuquerque; sister-in-law, Lenore Evans, of Clovis; numerous nieces and nephews; and her beloved cat, Mergie. A Graveside Service will be performed at Fairview Cemetery, 700 Yale SE, on Saturday, January 20, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Linda Dyer will officiate. Fisher -- Genevieve Hall Fisher, 68, passed away on January 15, 2001, in the family home. She was born July 21, 1932 in Albuquerque to Robert and Laurel Hall. Gen led a very full and eventful life. She is survived by her husband of 37 years, William B. Fisher; her brother, James D. Hall; her five children, Julia Harmon and husband, Jon of Manhattan Beach, CA, Glenn Smith and wife, Lorraine of Bernalillo, Dirk Smith of Manchester, CT, Genia Muniz of Albuquerque, and Kathy Bisson and husband, Jim of Littleton, CO; and also twelve grandchildren, Gen was active in the First Presbyterian Church, and at Shepherd of the Valley Presbyterian Church as Children's Choir Director, Chancel Choir member and Women's Association, and was President of Martineztown House of Neighborly Service Auxiliary Board, as well as other volunteer positions too numerous to mention. Services will be held at Shepherd of the Valley Presbyterian Church, 801 Montano Road, NW, on Saturday, January 20, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Shepherd of the Valley Capital Building Fund. Garcia -- Sandra A. Garcia, 40, beloved and devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and Godmother was called home to be with the Lord, Saturday, January 13, 2001. Sandra was born November 7, 1960 in Albuquerque, she was employed with the City of Albuquerque. She was preceded in death by her father, Jose L. Garcia. Sandra is survived by her loving husband, Hubert Anaya; her precious son, Andres Anaya of the family home; her mother, Jennie Garcia; two sisters, Patricia Garcia and Kathy Garcia-Scott and husband, Jose Scott Jr.; one brother, Nathan Garcia; nieces, Jenny, Marissa, Bernice, Taylor Ann; nephew, Marcus; Godson, Rudy Vigil; other relatives; and a host of friends. Sandra will be greatly missed by her loving family and those who loved and knew her. Funeral Services will be conducted this morning at 10:00 a.m. at Nativity of The Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church.. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Hindi -- Ednen Alex Hindi III, 52, a lifelong New Mexico resident and rancher passed away after a courageous battle on January 16, 2001. Ednen was very involved in the ranching business and he loved and cared for his land and animals diligently. Until recently he operated the family ranch in Duran, NM. Ednen was an active member of the New Mexico Cattle Growers, and the New Mexico Wool Growers. He graduated from Corona High School, in Corona, NM and attended the University of Albuquerque and the University of New Mexico. He was a member of the AKL (Alpha Kappa Lambda) fraternity. He is survived by his four children, all of Albuquerque, who meant the world to him; Ednen William Hindi, Khara Rose Hindi, Amarah Kay Hindi and Jhad Alex Hindi; he is also survived by his father, Ednen Hindi; sister, Sarah Hindi, both of Albuquerque; brother, Robert D. Hindi, of San Francisco; mother of his children, Wendee Burnett; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Billie R. Hindi; grandparents Thomas D. and Rubye Smith; Alex and Clarita Hindi; and Ray Slaughter. Ranching gave Ednen tremendous enjoyment and we will remember him during happier times, working sheep with his border collies, Kristee and Chuck. He was a very devoted father, brother, and son, who loved spending time with his children and all of his family members. A Memorial Service will take place on Saturday, January 20, 2001 at 1:00 p.m. in Palm Chapel at Strong-Thorne Mortuary, 1100 Coal Ave SE. Kelly -- Evelyn E. Kelly was born on June 6, 1916, in Clinton, Wisconsin and died on January 15, 2001 in Albuquerque, NM. Educated in Madison and at the University of Wisconsin, she moved with her family to Albuquerque in 1945. An artist, she was a 50 year member of the American Association of University Women in Albuquerque, a 40 year member of the Painting Interest Group and chairman of that group for over a decade. A 50 year member of Monte Vista Christian Church, she was a member or chairman of the Memorials Committee for over 20 yeas. She also held offices in other civic and professional organizations in Albuqueque and state level positions with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). She was preceded in death by two children and her husband of 54 years, A.W. (Red) Kelly. She is survived by her daughter, Eleanor Cooley and son-in-law, Rev. Ted Cooley of the home; three grandsons, Thomas Cooley and wife, Mary of Albuquerque, Major William Cooley and wife, Janet, stationed at Reinmein, Germany, and James Cooley and wife, Susan of Alexandria, VA; four great-grandchildren; two sisters; a brother; and nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place. There will be a service in the celebration of her life at Monte Vista Christian Church on Saturday, January 20, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. In place of flowers, memorials are requested to the AAUW Scholarship Fund or to the Memorial Fund of Monte Vista Christian Church.

Lucero -- Alex Albert Lucero, 60, of Albuquerque, passed away on January 16, 2001, peacefully at home. He was born on April 29, 1940, the son of Alex and Anita (Trujillo) Lucero, in Alamosa, CO. He is survived by his wife, Nicki (Rendel) Lucero, of the family home; son, Alex C. Lucero and his wife, Donna, and their children, Cortnee, Scott and Aimee, of North Salt Lake City, UT; son, Mark J. Lucero and his wife, Sandy, of Washington; son, Shawn J. Lucero and his wife, Donna, and his son, Cody, of Albuquerque; daughter Kristy Heinemann and her husband, Alan, and their children Mathew, Ashley, and Andrew, of Woods Cross, UT; and step-son, Michael B. Shirley and his wife, Trish, and their children, Michael and Christopher, of Albuquerque; sisters, Anna Martinez and her husband, Robert, of Salt Lake City, UT; Gladys Gober, of Clearfield, UT; Mary Ann Naranjo and her husband, Chris, of Grants Pass, OR; and Louise Maestas and her husband, Abe, of Colorado Springs, CO; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Lucero was employed for the past 16 years by City Window Cleaning Company, Inc., which is owned by his wife, Nicki Rendel Lucero. He professionally started cleaning windows at age 14. He was always known to be the best at what he did. Viewing will take place on Friday evening, January 19, 2001 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in Palm Chapel of Strong-Thorne Mortuary, 1100 Coal Ave SE. A Funeral service will be performed on Saturday, January 20, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. in Palm Chapel with his son, Pastor Alex C. Lucero, officiating. Cremation will follow and interment will take place at a later time. Menini -- Albertine E. Menini returned home to the Lord, Wednesday, January 10, 2001 on her 86th birthday. A resident of Gallup, NM since 1935, she was born and raised in Chicago, IL and migrated to the southwest with The Fred Harvey Co. as a waitress. She worked at the Dearborn Station, Chicago, the Grand Canyon's Bright Angel and El Tovar, the La Fonda in Santa Fe, the Alvardo in Albuquerque and the El Navajo in Gallup. After the El Navajo closed she worked at the El Rancho and Talk of the Town. She always enjoyed her travels and many friends and lived life to the fullest. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rudolph C. Menini, brother, Bruno Zvirzin, and daughter-in-law, Faye Hopper Menini. She is survived by her daughter, Shirley A. Preston; son, Rudolph C. Menini IL; grandson, Bruce B. Preston; granddaughter, Brenda Babb and her three children; a brother, Alex Zvirzin; special cousin, Christine Weisenback; many nieces and nephews and special friend, Maxine Scott. Cremation has been arranged through Sunrise Society of NM. A Memorial Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Cathedral, 415 E. Green, Gallup, NM at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 20, 2001. Reception following at Elk Lodge. Private interment will be at the Elks Rest, Hill Crest Cemetery. Mode -- William Marvin Mode "Bill", 83, a resident to Albuquerque since 1941, died Tuesday, January 16, 2001. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Julia Hicks Mode of Albuquerque; daughter, Trish Snipes of Albuquerque; granddaughter, Nicole Snipes of Albuquerque; brother, Alston Mode of North Carolina; and many nieces, nephews, and special friends especially the Rogers family. Mr. Mode served his country honorably in the USAF for 25 years. He served in WWII and the Korean Conflict. Following his service to his country, Bill retired from the University of New Mexico, CERF in 1975. He was a life member of the Air Force Sergeants Association and DAV. Mr. Mode loved woodworking and baseball. He was a very special person to all and he was there whenever someone needed him. Services will be held Friday, January 19, 2001, 10:00 a.m. at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, with Chaplain Lemuel Boyles, Col. (Ret.) USAF, officiating. Nunn -- O.D. Nunn, age 81, beloved husband of Ruby died at home on Friday, January 12, 2001. They had been married for 55 years. O.D. (Don) was born June 19, 1919 in Dierks, Arkansas. He served his country in both WW II and the Korean Conflict, first in the Army Air Corp and later in the US Army. He lived numerous places in his life, but chose to spend his retirement years here close to his family; a daughter, Carol Cook; his grandchildren, Terry Cook married to Hugh Giggy, Karen Cook married to Clarence Romero, Patty Cook married to Matt Martin and Jay Cook married to Alyson Blake; his great-grandchildren include, Lt. Todd Giggy of the USAF, Patrick Giggy currently a senior at the USAFA, Kristin Arellano married to Jesse Mayer, and APD officer, Seth Arellano, currently residing in California, Jeremy Martin and Wilder Cook. A Private Ceremony was held for the family at graveside on Tuesday, at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM. Oyaca -- Larry Oyaca, 67 of Santa Fe died unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 16, 2001. He was born on January 28, 1934 and was a lifelong resident of Santa Fe. Larry had an infectious smile which made it easy for him to work with the public First, at the Lensic Theater where he worked after graduation. Then, at the State Capitol where he worked with Betty Fiorina for eight years. Finally, as a 33 year employee of Santa Fe County. Larry was often the first person anyone saw when arriving at the old Courthouse and the last person when leaving late at night. His retirement three years ago left a big void, but his death leaves a bigger one, for everyone loved Larry. He was a parishioner of St. Francis Cathedral. His father, Pete R. Oyaca, predeceased him. He is survived by his loving mother, Carmen Oyaca; sister, Angi Oyaca Koonce and husband Lloyd; special nieces and nephews whom he always referred to as his"sisters and brothers", Martin Ortiz, Marquita Ortiz, Marc Ortiz and wife, Michelle, Marlisa Ortiz-Gomez and husband, Ray. Other survivors include his great niece, Monica Ortiz; great nephew, Peter Ortiz; uncle, Nestor Lovato; aunt, Tina Ortiz; cousins, Anthony Ortiz and wife, Ida and their son, Anthony, Jr., Raymond Ortiz and wife, Crista, Kathy Ortiz and special friend, Rudy Ortiz. Rodgers -- Edward Sherman Rodgers, Jr., known affectionately to family and friends as "Pop" or "Junior", passed away peacefully at the family home January 13, 2001. Born April 4, 1917, at St. Joseph's Hospital, he was a lifelong resident of Albuquerque. He attended St. Mary's Catholic School. He founded Rodgers Water Well Company in 1946 and retired in 1972 to follow his lifelong love of farming. He loved sharing his produce with his family and friends. Selelonis -- James I. Selelonis, 85, a resident of Rio Rancho for the past 20 years, passed away on Monday, January 15, 2001. James was born January 11, 1916 the son of Paul and Constance Lazickas Selelonis in Elizabeth, New Jersey. He is married to Amelia (Krowicki). He had worked for the Board of Education before retiring. James was a member of the American Legion Post 118 and worked as a bartender for the Legion. James is survived by his wife Amelia of Rio Rancho; daughter, Jerelynn Loeber of Albuquerque; one brother, Paul Selelonis of Colorado; four Grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Smith -- Mary Jane Auten Smith, 74, a resident of Albuquerque from 1963 to 1980 and from late 1996 to the present. She died and went home to Jesus on Friday night, January 12, 2001, following a long illness. She is survived by her husband, Dennis H. (Chris) Smith of Albuquerque; son, Dwight E. Auten and partner, Thomas L. Decker of Albuquerque; ex-husband, Edgar Frank Auten of Moriarty, NM; proxy parents; Frank J. Chavez and wife, Louise Jane of Cochiti Pueblo, NM; fatherťin-law, Horace H. Smith and partner, Barbara Romero of Belen, NM; sister, Geraldine F. Snyder and husband, Bill of Harrisburg, PA; sister-in-law, Janis Prudhomme and husband, Ray Prudhomme, and Anne C. Bahm and husband, Ron of Albuquerque; brother-in-law, Terry Smith and wife, Susan of Albuquerque; and many other family and friends. Mary Jane was preceded in death by her son, Frank LeRoy Auten and by her parents, Francis Bostdorf and Beatrice Butler and mother-in-law, Agnes Irene Smith. Mary Jane Auten Smith taught Kindergarten at Santo Domingo Public Schools from 1974-1980. She received a BS degree in 1974 from the University of NM and was six credit hours short from receiving her Masters in Education with emphasis on reading. She was a member of Pi Lamdba Theta since 1974. A Memorial Service will take place at Oasis Family Church, 4800 Lomas NE, Albuquerque, NM with Pastor Tom Undieme officiating. Tawson -- Pat W. Tawson, 72, resident of Albuquerque since 1956, died on Saturday, January 13, 2001. Mr. Tawson is survived by his wife of 45 years, Virginia Tawson of the family home; daughter, Kelli Zanin and husband, John; son-in-law, Roy Hardage; grandchildren, Jeremiah and Justin Zanin and Patrick and Kristle Hardage all of Albuquerque; brother, Bruce Tawson and wife, Ellen of Denver, CO. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Kristi Hardage in 1992. Pat retired from Bristol-Myers Company after 31 years as a Pharmaceutical Sales Representative. He was a member of the Elks for over 50 years. Upon his retirement, he thoroughly enjoyed his woodworking, furniture building, and traveling. White -- Mrs. Lydia M. White died Monday in Albuquerque at the age of 81. Mrs. White is survived by her sons, William C. White of Albuquerque, Charles White of California, Joseph E. White of Albuquerque, and Darwin L. White of California; daughters, Mable Lujan of Utah, Lily V. Warriner of California, Karen White of Albuquerque, Marie L. White of California, Geneva R. Ochoa of California, and Tammy Lynn Floyd and husband, Alton of Arizona; a granddaughter she raised, Cheryl A. Lucero and husband Pete J. Lucero Sr. of Cypress, CA; 29 other grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
