Oyaca -- Larry Oyaca, 67 of Santa Fe died unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 16, 2001. He was born on January 28, 1934 and was a lifelong resident of Santa Fe. Larry had an infectious smile which made it easy for him to work with the public First, at the Lensic Theater where he worked after graduation. Then, at the State Capitol where he worked with Betty Fiorina for eight years. Finally, as a 33 year employee of Santa Fe County. Larry was often the first person anyone saw when arriving at the old Courthouse and the last person when leaving late at night. His retirement three years ago left a big void, but his death leaves a bigger one, for everyone loved Larry. He was a parishioner of St. Francis Cathedral. His father, Pete R. Oyaca, predeceased him. He is survived by his loving mother, Carmen Oyaca; sister, Angi Oyaca Koonce and husband Lloyd; special nieces and nephews whom he always referred to as his"sisters and brothers", Martin Ortiz, Marquita Ortiz, Marc Ortiz and wife, Michelle, Marlisa Ortiz-Gomez and husband, Ray. Other survivors include his great niece, Monica Ortiz; great nephew, Peter Ortiz; uncle, Nestor Lovato; aunt, Tina Ortiz; cousins, Anthony Ortiz and wife, Ida and their son, Anthony, Jr., Raymond Ortiz and wife, Crista, Kathy Ortiz and special friend, Rudy Ortiz. Visitation will take place on Thursday, January 18, 2001 from 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. at Berardinelli Family Chapel where a Rosary will be recited at 6:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 19, 2001 at 10:00 a.m. Due to repairs being made to St. Francis Cathedral, Monsignor Jerome Martinez y Alire will conduct the services at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church.
