Ortiz -- Candido "Candy" Ortiz, a resident of Albuquerque, died Tuesday, August 14, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Maria Ursula Lucero Ortiz of Albuquerque; daughters, Mary Reeder of Lakewood, CO, Belinda Crosby and husband, Robert, Carol Schuster and husband, Gary, all of Albuquerque; son, Don Jose Ortiz of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Daniel Reeder of Denver, CO, Deborah Ellison of Lakewood, CO, Bryan Crosby of Lauderdale, MS, Carleen Shannon and Kerri Schuster, both of Albuquerque; Scott Schuster of Chicago, IL, and Steven Schuster of Las Cruces, NM; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Candido Ortiz; mother, Carlotta Ellison Ortiz; and sisters, Veneranda and Frances Ortiz. Candido served as a Captain in the Army Air Force during WWII and Colonel Aide-de-Camp for the NM National Guard. He worked for many years as an accountant for the Internal Revenue Service and later retired from the Bureau of Indian Affairs in 1967. He also retired from the Screen Actors Guild after filming a part in a Tetley Tea Commercial. His interests included playing pool at the Highland Senior Citizen Center and ushering at Our Lady of Fatima Church. His dry wit and great sense of humor will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Mass will be celebrated Friday, August 17, 2001, 10:00 a.m, at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 4020 Lomas Blvd. NE. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Daniel Reeder, Bryan Crosby, Scott Schuster, Steven Schuster, Kirk Ellison, and Jason Shannon. French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE.
