VON DREELE -- Josephine Von Dreele, (Jo) passed away on May 17, 2004. She is survived by four children, Sandra, Wayne, Glenn and Wendy; her sister, Muriel Irving; ten grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, John; her father, Joseph; and her mother, Kay. Jo was the owner of many small businesses during the last 40 years including "Muriel's Accessories", "Mode-O-Day Dress Shop" and "Aquarius Nails" all in Albuquerque, NM. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Willow Creek Care Facility and the Nathan Adelson Hospice of Las Vegas, NV. Private Services have been held. WHITE -- Patricia Ann (Wheeler) White, 76, a resident of Albuquerque, died Wednesday, May 19, 2004. She was born September 22, 1927 in Highland Park, Michigan. Patricia is survived by her husband, Rev. Dr. Rue W. White; her daughters, Maureen Hamilton of Santa Fe, NM, Moira Newquist and husband, David, of Albuquerque and Melinda Garcia and husband, Samuel, of Santa Fe, NM; and her sons, Cdr. Joseph W. White and wife, Susan, of Fairfax, VA, Shaun White and wife, Sarah, of Denver, CO and David W. White and Barbara Underwood of Albuquerque, NM; and 8 grandchildren. Patricia and Rue were married July 3, 1948 in Pana, IL. Patricia was a member of the Daughters of the Sacred Heart and was a long-time member of The Catholic Daughters of America as well as a Madame of the Patriarchal Order de la Saint Croix de Jerusalem. Rosary will be held Monday, May 24, 2004, 7:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE. GRISWOLD -- Gilbert Ripley Griswold, 92, a resident of Albuquerque, NM, died late Saturday, May 15, 2004 in La Vida Llena Health Care, in Albuquerque. Mr. Griswold is survived by his daughters, Miriam Schroeder of San Diego, CA, Martha Griswold of Berkley, CA, and Annette Griswold of Greenbush, WI; four grandchildren; one great grandson. He was preceded in death by his wife of over 40 years, Laura Fast Griswold. Mr. Griswold was born in Greenport, NY on October 3, 1911, the middle child of Clyde and Grace Griswold. He moved to Raton, NM at the age of ten and had been a New Mexico resident ever since. G.R. Griswold received two Bachelors of Science degrees from NM Tech in the fields of mining engineering and metalurgy. During the years of 1933-39, Mr. Griswold was a survey party chief and topographic engineer with the US Geological Survey, mapping rivers, dam sites, and reservoirs in New Mexico, Utah, Idaho and Montana, as well as an assayer. He went on to the University of Utah and earned a Master of Science in metalurgy. During World War II, he served in the Army specializing in ordinance, and was discharged a full colonel in the US Army Reserve. Mr. Griswold was president of Chapman, Wood and Griswold, consulting mining engineers and geologists, with offices in Albuquerque, Australia, and Canada. Even though placer gold was his favorite ore, Mr. Griswold was involved in uranium mining since its inception and was internationally consulted on the subject. He was appointed a member of the General Technical Advisory Commission on US Coal Research. He belonged to many mining organizations and a Rotarian. Services were held Thursday, May 20, 2004, 1:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel. Interment followed at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul NE. MARQUEZ -- Robert J. Marquez, 47, went home to be with the Lord on May 18, 2004. He was born on March 5, 1957 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Mr. Marquez is survived by his wife Juanita Marquez; sons, Robert Marquez, Richard Marquez and Ruben Marquez; daughter, Christina Marquez; brothers, Joe Marquez and wife Yita, Alfred Marquez and wife Lynne and Ruben Marquez and wife Lindy; sisters, Mary Montgomery and husband Cecil, Ida O'Neal and husband Jr., Lorine Lea, Linda Kozlowski and husband Johnny, Gloria Corcoran and husband Jim and Anita Ibarra and husband Rudy. Mr. Marquez will be deeply missed by his loving family. Visitations will be held on Friday evening from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Garcia Mortuary. Refreshments will be served after the visitations in the Celebration of Life room also at Garcia Mortuary. NEWSOME -- Dr. James A. "Jim" Newsome, DDS MS, 67, a resident of Albuquerque since 1966, died on Friday, May 14, 2004. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, C. J. Newsome; daughter, Kim Shulz and husband, Jeff, of Denver, CO; son, Greg Craddock of Albuquerque; daughter, Suzanne Newsome of Albuquerque; son, J. Blair Newsome; brother, Jon Paul Newsome and wife, Susan of Sarasota, FL; nephews, Jon Paul Newsome and wife, Kris, and John Newsome and wife, Benagh; life long friends, Gordon and Barbara McMaude and their children, John, Michael and Heather, as well as many loving and supportive friends. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Melanie H. Newsome and his parents, James A. and Marjorie Newsome. Jim was the first board certified Oral and Maxillofacial surgeon in Albuquerque and founded the NM Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He received his degree from State University of Iowa in 1958 and completed his D.D.S. degree from University of Iowa in 1961. Dr. Newsome was in private practice from 1966 until his death. He was a member of several professional organizations in Albuquerque and New Mexico. Jim also served in the U. S. Army Medical Corps. from 1964 to 1966. Cremation has taken place and Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, May 22, 2004, at 2:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel. Jim leaves an indelible mark on Albuquerque and in the dental community. He is remembered for his dedication to professionalism, compassion, and his willingness to help others, his great sense of humor, and his smile. NIETO -- Celestina Nieto, age 71, of Albuquerque, passed away on Thursday, May 20, 2004 after a short illness. She is preceded in death by her Husband, Polinaro in 1965; Son, Raymond 1980; Son, Lorenzo (Pancho) Feb. 2004; Her Father and Mother, Frank and Maria; Brothers, Eddie and Francisco; and Sister, Josie. ROBERTSON -- Celine Duran Robertson, 81, died Tuesday, May 18, 2004 in Satellite Beach, FL. She is survived by her daughters, Yvonne Barbee and husband, Tom, of San Antonio, TX and Theresa Bond and husband, Ron, of Satellite Beach, FL; son, John Robertson and wife, Jayme, of Albuquerque, NM and daughter, Anna Syverson and husband, Dan, of Roscoe, IL; grandchildren, Ron Bond, John Barbee, Robert Barbee, Michelle McDonnell, Christina North, Kenneth Syverson, Ryan Bond, Javana Buehler, Janean Robertson, David Robertson, Nathan Robertson and Tyler Syverson and great grandchildren, Aliyah McDonnell, Jaquelyn McDonnell and Marrissa Celine McDonnell. She was preceded in death by her husband, John C. RODDEN -- John Frank Rodden died on May 19, 2004. John was born on September 22, 1936 in Brooklyn, and later moved to the Bronx, New York. He had lived in Albuquerque since 1958. He was in the United States Navy from 1953-1957. He worked as an Air Traffic Controller for the Federal Aviation Administration until his retirement in 1994. He is survived by his spouse, Kathy Rodden; Loretta Cabbage, mother of his children; a daughter, Susan Rodden; a son, Steven Rodden and wife, Maria Luisa; former spouse, Patricia Coburn, all of Albuquerque; a sister, Doris DeWinter of Margate, FL; three nieces, Denise, Holly and Leslie; and a large extended family. John loved to travel the world and enjoyed deep sea fishing. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 25, 2004 at the First Family Church, 4701 Wyoming Blvd. NE, Albuquerque. ROMERO -- Elvira B. Romero, age 97, peacefully went to be with Our Lord and Savior on Friday, May 21, 2004. She was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. Elvira was born in Lemitar, NM on November 14, 1906 and was raised on her parents homestead, 30 miles west of Belen. Once a year she was sent to Tome, NM to help her Aunt Paula Saiz with the duties of housekeeper for Padre Alberto. This also gave Elvira the opportunity to attend school for a few months. Elvira learned to speak, read and write English and Spanish and to learn arithmetic. Her school years were very short because her father, a dry land farmer, would take her home to help with the harvest. She used to speak proudly about the peach orchard that she and her father had planted from seed, which in a few years produced peaches in such abundance that the family dried fifty pound sacks full which made great pastelitos. Elvira married Santiago Romero on April 26, 1926 in Riley, NM, had five boys and one girl, and became the best mother in the whole world. Elvira is preceded in death by her husband, Santiago G. Romero; her parents, Jorge and Casimira Saiz Bustamante; her brothers, Daniel, Jose, Antonio, Herman; one sister, Marillita and her husband, Conrado Carrillo; a grandson, Danial A. Romero; and her son-in-law, Manuel Chavez. Elvira is survived by one sister, Bernarda Bustamante; her youngest brother, Alfredo Bustamante, both of Belen, NM; six children, Hipolito Romero and his wife, Katherine Sue, of Santa Rita, NM, George Romero and his wife, Gertrude of Belen, NM, Casimira "Casey" Romero of Belen, NM, Jose C. Romero and his wife, Lillie, of Albuquerque, NM, Santiago Romero, Jr. and his wife, Emily of San Clemente, CA and Vivian Carlos Romero and his wife, Virginia of Belen, NM; eleven grandchildren, five great grandchildren and she is also called grandma by numerous step- grandchildren. All services will be held at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church beginning with a private viewing on Sunday, May 23, 2004 at 5:00 p.m. followed by a public viewing at 5:30p.m., and a Rosary at 6:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, May 24, 2004, 8:30 a.m. at Our lady of Belen Catholic Church. She will be buried next to her husband, Santiago, in the Santa Rita Cemetery, in Riley, NM. Pallbearers will be Joseph Romero, Porfie Romero, John James Romero, Eugene Romero, Ruben Romero and George Romero, Jr.; honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren and great grandchildren. SILVA -- Mrs. Rose P. Silva, 63, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on May 20, 2004 peacefully at home in the arms of her loving family. Mrs. Silva is the beloved wife of 48 years to Mr. Juan Silva. Mrs. Silva is also survived by her loving children, Arthur Silva and wife, Mickie, Sylvia Rose Lane and husband, Kent, Johnny Silva, Michael Silva and wife, Carla, Adam Silva and wife, Yvette, Judy Ayala and husband, RIchard; her loving mother, Ramona Altamirano; four sisters, Maria Legarretta and husband, Ventura, Dorothy Serna and husband, Ruben, Stella Serna and husband, Richard, Nancy Gutierrez and husband, Jimmy; two brothers, Joe Altamirano and Jesus Chavarria; 20 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; a special aunt, Carolina Garcia; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, sisters and brothers in law, cousins and friends. Mrs. Silva was a member of the Catholic Church. A visitation for Mrs. Silva will be Sunday afternoon from 2:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church, 562 Atrisco SW with a Rosary to be recited at 3:00 p.m. A final visitation will be Monday morning from 9:30 am until 10:00 am at Holy Family Catholic Church with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:00 am.
