GARCIA -- Maria Rita Garcia, 94, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 4, 2007. Maria Rita was born August 3, 1912 in Willard, NM. She grew up in Torreon, NM specifically her father's ranch called "El Cuervo". In 1949, Maria, Ross and family moved to Los Alamos and they lived there for 25 years. Maria is survived by her daughters, Rachel Martinez and husband, John of Albuquerque, Rosalva Pennington and husband, Arlin of Edgewood, Lucy Garcia of Albuquerque; sons, Melquiades Garcia and wife, Bernice of Phoenix, AZ, Eddie Garcia and wife, Marguerite of Spokane, WA; daughter, Carmen Gill and husband, Bob of Los Alamos and Lorina Justus of Los Alamos; sister, Pablita Padilla of Albuquerque; 19 grandchildren, J. D. Sandy and Lori Martinez, Anthony, Kurt and Bryan Pennington, Caterina Nelson, Bennie Ross, Chris and Steven Trujillo, Michael Atkins, Stephen Garcia, Robert, Gary, Lisa and Michael Gill, David and Ross Justus and Julia Blanco; 29 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ross Garcia; parents, Melquiades and Leonor Trujillo; brothers, Sosteno, Preciliano and Julian Trujillo. Maria Rita was a member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church. She was the heart of her family. Maria Rita had deep faith in God and steadfast spirituality. She bestowed this faith and spirituality to her family. Maria Rita gave her family, not only the comfort of her daily prayers, but her unconditional love and support. Maria was blessed with 94 beautiful years and lived to see her children's children and her grandchildren's children and to also grace her family with her presence and blessings at the many weddings, graduations, baptisms and numerous family social functions, the last one being of her daughter's 50th wedding anniversary. Maria Rita loved people and enjoyed having visitors at her home and she was a hostess in the most eloquent Hispanic tradition. Maria Rita will be greatly missed by her large family, relatives, her many nieces and nephews and many, many friends. Rosary will be recited Tuesday, March 6, 2007 at 6:30 p.m. at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, March 7, 2007 at 9:00 a.m. at the Shrine of St. Bernadette, 11401 Indian School Rd. NE. A viewing will be held at the San Antonio Catholic Church in Torreon prior to the interment which will follow at Torreon Catholic Cemetery in Torreon, NM. PETERSON -- Marjorie D. Mrs. Marjorie D. Peterson, 80, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on March 2, 2007. Mrs. Peterson is the beloved mother to Harold Sabgash Jr. and wife, Diana, Judith Nelson and Diane Becker. Mrs. Peterson is also survived by eight grandchildren, Sarah and Joseph Salvi, Susan and Tony Powell, Scott Sabgash and fiance, Michelle Magsig, Alarey Nelson and fiancee, David Jacob, Keri and Kristen Becker; five great grandchildren, Joseph and Madison Salvi, Garrett, Weston and Lucas Powell; two step great grandchildren, Josh and Katie Jacob; her companion, Lee Montoya and his family; and many special friends. Mrs. Peterson was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas A. Peterson Sr. Dec. 8, 1990. Mrs. Peterson was a member of the Lutheran Church and had many hobbies including arts, crafts, sewing and crocheting. She loved gardening, cooking and baking. Mrs. Peterson won many awards and ribbons for her delicious pies that she was well known for. A Committal Service will be held Tuesday, March 6, 2007 at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. by Pastor Douglas Escue from the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Santa Fe, NM. will preside. LUCHSINGER -- E. P. "Paul" Luchsinger, 72, passed away at his home Wednesday, February 14, 2007 following an extended illness. Funeral Services will be at Baca's Funeral Chapels Saturday, February 17, 2007 at 11 o'clock in the morning with G. G. Gore and Rick Holdridge presiding. Inurnment of the cremains will be privately at Mountain View Cemetery. He was born June 23, 1934 in Surrey, Ward County, ND to Earl Luchsinger and Ruth Witham. He attended Washington State College where he excelled in football and was a fraternity brother in the Lambi Chi Fraternity. On December 29, 1952 he married Beverly Jean Monroe in Great Falls, MT and relocated to the Deming, NM area in January of 1967. His faith was of the Catholic Church. Paul was active in the general contracting business throughout the State of New Mexico and was a member of the Associated General Contractors. He enjoyed golfing, mule and horse packing and was proud of having completed two recreational vehicle trips to Alaska. Surviving him are his wife, Beverly Luchsinger of the home; son, Paul Luchsinger and wife, Susie, Atoka, OK; four daughters: Cathy and husband, Frankie Hervol, Liana Hervol and husband, James Hervol, Patty Luchsinger, all of Deming, and Jennifer and husband, Laban Tubbs of Claredon, TX; five brothers, Curtis Luchsinger, Minot, ND, Burton Luchsinger, Great Falls, MT, Milton Luchsinger, Helotes, TX, Kenny Luchsinger, Billings, MT, and Donnie Luchsinger, Minot, ND; two sisters, Marilyn 'Sis' Butler, Albany, OR, and Leone Brnsven, Minot, ND; 12 grandchildren, Eldon Paul, Lucchese Joy and Samuel Clark Luchsinger, Robbie (Allison), Ryan (Stephanie) and Tamora Hervol, Tiffany Hervol (D. J.) Frost, Amber Hervol (Grant) Swinney, Courtney (Brian) Hervol Head, Michaelyn Hervol (Bonner) Cardwell, Ty and Ashlyn Tubbs; 13 great-grandchildren, Abby, Chloe, Emily, Colby, Bryson and Kailey Hervol, Aubri Kehoe and Ethan Frost, Kylan and Reid Swinney, Mackenzie Head, Alexis and Aidan Cardwell. Preceding him in death were his parents and a granddaughter, Jean Ann Tubbs in 1990. Pallbearers named are Jim Grider, Jack Turner, Billy Foster, Jim Harris, Kent Cooper, Dewey Skelton, Dan Cloninger, Les Nelson, Fred Seybert, John Shelton, Jack Martin, Bill Albert, and Al Herman. Honorary bearers are his five brothers. In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that memorials be made to the Alma Feil Hospice in care of Amber Care, 112 West Pine Street, Deming, NM 88030. MOORE -- Donald Winfield Duke Moore, 95, longtime resident of Texas and New Mexico, passed away on January 23, 2007, in Albuquerque, NM. Cherished husband to Juanita, devoted father to Pickens, Larry Don, Sandra, Amanda, and Cyrus, and beloved father-in-law to Peter Sagara, Don received his B.A. from McMurry University in Abilene, TX, and his M.A. in Music from Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, NM. During a distinguished career as music educator Don was the long-serving Choir Director of Hereford High School in Hereford, TX, filled the same role at Clovis High School in Clovis, NM, and was also Opera Workshop Director and Professor of Voice at Eastern New Mexico University. He retired in Hereford as Director of Music for the public schools. Long an active member of the United Methodist Church, Don served as church choir director in Hereford, Portales, and Clovis. An advisor, confidant, and inspiration for generations of students, many of whom maintained close friendships with him over the years, Don and his high school choirs were admired for productions of the musicals "The Mikado," "Oklahoma," "Carousel," "Brigadoon," "South Pacific," and "The King and I," and for the opera "Amahl and the Night Visitors." Don's tenure at ENMU was noted for productions of Puccini's opera "Gianni Schicci" and Menotti's "The Medium." Don was preceded in death by Juanita, to whom he was married for 68 years; by his parents; by his sisters, Amny, Audrey, Juanita, Mary, and his twin, Dorothy; by his brothers, Nelson, Robert, and Sidney; and by his son, Larry Don. In addition to four children, five grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren, he is survived by two brothers, David Moore of Salt Lake City, UT, and Bill Moore of Dalhart, TX. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 10, 2007 at the chapel of Manzano del Sol Good Samaritan Village, 5201 Roma Ave. NE, in Albuquerque. SICE -- Tyrone W. Sice, Our loving brother, son, uncle and nephew, 46, Albuquerque resident, passed away February 1, 2007. He is survived by his sisters, Jocelyn and Sidney Sice and Danielle Thompson; brother, Fredrick Thompson; two nieces, Jessica and Willynette Nelson; one great-niece, Olivia Sice; step-father, Paul Thompson; maternal aunt, Joy Spocogee; paternal aunts Thelma Sice-Romero, Carol Nez, Vange "Cece" Marin and Vita Seciwa and a host of cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by his mother, Pauline Spocogee Thompson and father Wilbert H. Sice. GARCIA -- Alfred M. "Fred" Garcia, 82, a resident of Albuquerque since 1968, died on January 28, 2007. Fred was born in Las Vegas, NM on May 17, 1924. He served his country in the US Navy during World War II, awarded the Purple Heart. Fred was a proud member of the American Legion Post 99 and was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans (DAV). Fred was a professional automotive parts man working for Chevrolet car dealers in Las Vegas, NM, Espanola, NM, and Albuquerque. He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn M. Garcia and daughter, Theresa. Ten children, 18 grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren survive him. He is survived by his daughters, Bernadine Martinez and husband, Adolph; grandchildren, Chad and Adolfo; Rita Gill and husband, John; grandchild, Andrea; Annette Ackerman and husband, Nelson; grandchildren, Nicole and Nelson, Jr.; Jeanette Martinez and husband, Robert; grandchildren, Zachary, Brent Jr., Jaylen, Madelyn, and Landon. APODACA -- Pita Flora Apodaca began a new journey on Sunday January 21, 2007. Pita was a lifelong resident of Las Vegas, NM and was preceded in death by her father, Eugenio Flores; and mother, Florentina Yerby Flores; by her husband, Ernesto Apodaca; son, Eugene Gilbert Apodaca; and grandchildren, Lawrence Thomas, Stephanie Apodaca, and John David Apodaca. Pita was a graduate of New Mexico Highlands University and was a teacher for the San Miguel County Schools and the West Las Vegas Schools. Mrs. "A" taught 42 years and touched hundreds of young student's lives, she would often beam with excitement when former students would approach her and remember her. Pita always encouraged and saw the potential in all her students and treated everyone she met with respect and dignity. Pita was proud to be a Nuevo Mexicana, a Las Vegan and especially proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and would often show pictures and tell of their accomplishments. Pira is survived by her son, Mariano Apodaca and wife, Mickey of Corrales, NM; daughter, Kay Thomas and husband, Alvin of Santa Fe, NM; daughter, Kristine "Kooch" Jacobus and husband, Guy of Albuquerque, NM; and son, Francisco and special friend, Francie of Los Lunas, NM. She also had nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff of Kingston Residence of Santa Fe for the care and understanding they gave to Pita and the staff of PMS Hospice. Special thanks to Gracie Olivas who spent many Sunday afternoons with Pita. A Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, January 26, 2007 from the chapel at Nelson Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Rev. C. John Brasher at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday January 27, 2007 at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church. With respect to Pita's final wishes, cremation has taken place with interment to take place by her family at a later time. Serving as pallbearers will be Michael Angel, Phillip Jacobus, Randy Thomas, David Ernest Thomas, Stephen Apodaca, Sean Apodaca, Michael Phillip Smith. PERKINS -- Dennis Perkins, 52, a resident of Albuquerque for over 20 years, died suddenly at his home Saturday, January 13, 2007. He is survived by his wife, Julia Perkins; son, Neil Perkins; one grandchild; and sisters, Elaine Perkins of Arizona, Madeline Nelson of Florida, and Wanda Tribble of California. Mr. Perkins served in the U.S. Army. Dennis worked at General Electric for many years, before moving to Bueno Foods. He volunteered at United Way of Central New Mexico, his church, Hope Episcopal, and several other organizations. Cremation has taken place and Memorial Services will be held Friday, January 19, 2007, 2:00 p.m., at St. Marks on the Mesa Episcopal Church, 431 Richmond Place NE.
