GARCIA -- Maria Rita Garcia, 94, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 4, 2007. Maria Rita was born August 3, 1912 in Willard, NM. She grew up in Torreon, NM specifically her father's ranch called "El Cuervo". In 1949, Maria, Ross and family moved to Los Alamos and they lived there for 25 years. Maria is survived by her daughters, Rachel Martinez and husband, John of Albuquerque, Rosalva Pennington and husband, Arlin of Edgewood, Lucy Garcia of Albuquerque; sons, Melquiades Garcia and wife, Bernice of Phoenix, AZ, Eddie Garcia and wife, Marguerite of Spokane, WA; daughter, Carmen Gill and husband, Bob of Los Alamos and Lorina Justus of Los Alamos; sister, Pablita Padilla of Albuquerque; 19 grandchildren, J. D. Sandy and Lori Martinez, Anthony, Kurt and Bryan Pennington, Caterina Nelson, Bennie Ross, Chris and Steven Trujillo, Michael Atkins, Stephen Garcia, Robert, Gary, Lisa and Michael Gill, David and Ross Justus and Julia Blanco; 29 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ross Garcia; parents, Melquiades and Leonor Trujillo; brothers, Sosteno, Preciliano and Julian Trujillo. Maria Rita was a member of Holy Ghost Catholic Church. She was the heart of her family. Maria Rita had deep faith in God and steadfast spirituality. She bestowed this faith and spirituality to her family. Maria Rita gave her family, not only the comfort of her daily prayers, but her unconditional love and support. Maria was blessed with 94 beautiful years and lived to see her children's children and her grandchildren's children and to also grace her family with her presence and blessings at the many weddings, graduations, baptisms and numerous family social functions, the last one being of her daughter's 50th wedding anniversary. Maria Rita loved people and enjoyed having visitors at her home and she was a hostess in the most eloquent Hispanic tradition. Maria Rita will be greatly missed by her large family, relatives, her many nieces and nephews and many, many friends. Rosary will be recited Tuesday, March 6, 2007 at 6:30 p.m. at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, March 7, 2007 at 9:00 a.m. at the Shrine of St. Bernadette, 11401 Indian School Rd. NE. A viewing will be held at the San Antonio Catholic Church in Torreon prior to the interment which will follow at Torreon Catholic Cemetery in Torreon, NM.
