FLORES -- Benny Flores, 82, passed away on October 24, 2006 at his home in Santa Rosa, NM after a valiant three year fight with cancer. His passing was peaceful and he was surrounded by his children. He was born April 9, 1924 in Puerto de Luna to the home of Cipriano Flores and the former Paublita Montoya. He was reared and attended grade school in Puerto de Luna. He graduated from Santa Rosa High School in 1943 and enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps. He was a corporal assigned to the 460th Army Air Force Base Unit as an airplane and engine mechanic. He married Florentina "Tina" Padilla on June 27, 1945 at Nuestra Senora de Refugio Catholic Church in Puerto de Luna. He attended New Mexico Highlands University and received a BA in education in 1949. He taught school in Puerto de Luna from 1948-52, in Cuervo during 1952-53, and again in Puerto de Luna serving as head teacher from 1953-67. From 1967 until his retirement in 1981 he taught at Santa Rosa Middle School. He taught school for a total of thirty-three years and his career spanned five decades, from 1949 through 1981. Benny and his family made their home in Puerto de Luna until 1959 when they moved to Santa Rosa. He lived the rest of his life in the "Lake City." He enjoyed ranching and farming in the Puerto de Luna valley. He was well known for his hard work ethic, being a teacher during the school term and doing farm work and ranching during the summer months. He also liked building houses and built the three houses in which he and his family lived. He also built several other houses in Santa Rosa near the Park Lake area. He was a lifelong member of the Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church, a charter member of the Santa Rosa Knights of Columbus and a long time member of the National Education Association of New Mexico. He served on the Santa Rosa City Council for six years in the early 1970s and was elected to two terms as Guadalupe County Probate Judge. In 1996 he was chosen as "Outstanding Conservation Farmer" in the county by the Soil and Water Conservation District. He was honored by being listed in the Outstanding Secondary Educators of America in 1973. In 1942 he was a starting forward on the first Santa Rosa High School basketball team to play in a state tournament. The Lions won two games and lost two games in the tournament, which was held in Santa Fe. All the teams played in one classification at that time. He also enjoyed playing baseball and was a member of the well-known Puerto de Luna Young Farmers team in the years preceding World War II. He also served on the Puerto de Luna Spanish choir. His pastimes included farming (especially raising chile verde), playing cards with his friends, going to the Puerto de Luna Senior Citizens, and visiting with his children. His wife, Tina passed away in 1986. He married Maria Perez in Santa Rosa on August 3, 1991. He was also preceded in death by his parents; and four sisters and two brothers: Beatriz Salazar, Amalia Dodge, Leontina Chavez, Adela Espinoza, Josefina Flores, Alberto Flores, and Honorato Flores. Survivors include his wife, Maria of the family home; five daughters, Bernadette Flores, Consuelo Flores, Monica (Tom) Lopez, Renee (Patrick) Marquez, all of Albuquerque, and Susan (Cele) Rodriguez. He is also survived by his eight sons: Daniel (Lupita) Flores of Santa Rosa, Nicolas (Lissie) Flores of Plano, TX, Herman (Maxine) Flores of Plano, TX, Billy (Tracy) Flores of Albuquerque, David (Victoria) Flores of Los Lunas, Johnny (Rosemary) Flores of Albuquerque, Richard (Caroline) Flores of Santa Rosa, and Tommy Flores with the United States Navy in Hawaii. Surviving also are 30 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Arcelia Abeyta of Santa Rosa; and two brothers who live in Puerto de Luna, Victor (Otilia) Flores and Filomeno (Erlinda) Flores. He is also survived by a niece who was raised as a sister, Margie Abeyta of Santa Rosa. Other survivors include Maria's children, Javier (Carolina) Claro, Hector (Marissa) Claro, Carlos (Nadia) Claro of Chihuahua, Mexico, and Elizabeth (Antonio) DeReal of Santa Rosa. Rosary Services will be held at Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church on Thursday, October 26, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. with his niece, Donna Abeyta Rivera, leading the prayers. Funeral Mass will be held at Saint Rosa of Lima Catholic Church on Friday, October 27, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. with Father Nick Nichols officiating. Burial will follow at Nuestra Senora de Refugio Cemetery in Puerto de Luna. His grandchildren will serve as pallbearers. It was his wish that all his former students, co-workers and close friends be honorary pallbearers. GALVAN -- Nacha Galvan, age 73, passed away peacefully Saturday, September 16, 2006. She was born on November 14, 1932 in Roswell, NM; and was a resident of Albuquerque since 1950. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Galvan; and a son, Frankie Galvan. Nacha is survived by her sons, Tommy Galvan and his wife, Kathy, Johnny Galvan, Daniel Galvan, Jimmy Galvan and his wife, Sheri; her daughters, Virginia Garcia and husband, Arthur, Loretta Galvan, Frances Galvan and fiance, Richard Marquez; 13 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her brothers, Domingo Fuentes, Raymond Fuentes, Joe Fuentes and wife, Gloria, all of Roswell, NM, Lupe Fuentes and wife, Kathy of Albuquerque; one sister, Estacia Najar and husband, Lencho of Roswell, NM; numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends. Nacha will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Nacha was a member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, where she was a Carmelita and a Guadalupana. She also volunteered at the Senior Services. The family wishes to express special thanks to the Vista Care Hospice Group for their care and kindness. Visitations will be today from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Alameda Mortuary. A Rosary will be recited Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. at Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. also at the church. Interment will follow at San Carlos Cemetery. GONZALES -- Jose Mauricio "Morris" Gonzales, 69, passed away on Friday, September 15, 2006 in Socorro, NM. He was born June 8, 1937 in Socorro, NM to Jose and Gina (Gallegos) Gonzales. He is survived by his sons: Morris Gonzales and wife, Donna of Rio Rancho, NM; and Bobby Gonzales and wife, Darlene of Albuquerque, NM; brothers: Floyd Gonzales; Connie Gonzales and wife, Natti; Juan Gonzales; Ernest Gonzales and wife, Dorothy; and Tommy Gonzales and wife, Frances, all of Socorro; Raymond Gonzales and wife, Berna of Las Cruces, NM; sister, Rachel Sedillo of Socorro; grandchildren: Michael Gonzales, Tracy Skaggs, Ashley Gonzales, Amanda Gonzales, Robert Gonzales, and Elena Gonzales; great grandchildren: Myranda Gonzales, Nolen Gonzales, Bailey Skaggs, and Brynlee Skaggs. ARCHUNDE -- Senovio Archunde Jr. passed away early Sunday morning, August 20, 2006 in Albuquerque, NM following a brief illness. He was born on April 10, 1934 in Seboyeta, NM to Senovio Archunde Sr. and Raquel Marquez-Archunde. He was 72. Mr. Archunde was a lifelong resident of the area, and member of Saint Vivian's parish. He was married to his wife, Sostena "Tena" Archunde on February 14, 1952. Sadly Mrs. Archunde passed away in 2005. He was employed as a uranium miner and found work for Kerr-McGee, Gulf Minerals, and United Nuclear Homestake Partners. He was employed at the Village of Milan for some time as well. He retired about 1998. He will be remembered by his family as a Great husband, father, and hard worker. He was known to help others and he contributed to the welfare of the people who needed him. He will be deeply missed by friends and family. He is survived by one son, Marty Archunde Sr. and his wife, Sandra of Albuquerque; two daughters, Kathy Maes and her husband, Jimmy of Albuquerque and Renee Archunde-Contreras and her husband, Phillip of Albuquerque; three brothers, Cesario Archunde and his wife, Eufila of Seboyeta, NM, Johnny Archunde and his wife, Domie of Albuquerque; Issac Archunde and his wife, Priscilla of Grants; three sisters, JoAnn Griego and her husband, Augustine of Albuquerque, Ada Rodriguez and her husband, Salvador of Seboyeta, Rosella Garcia and Roy of Albuquerque; three grandchildren, Marty Archunde Jr. of Albuquerque, Crystal Turrietta and her husband, Adam of Albuquerque, Mathew Archunde of Albuquerque; two great-grandchildren, Isiah Turrietta of Albuquerque, Adrian Turrietta of Albuquerque. Numerous nephews and nieces survive as well. Mr. Archunde was preceded in death by his parents, Senovio Archunde Sr. and Raquel Marquez Archunde; and his wife of 53 years, Sostena "Tena" Archunde. Visitation will be 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Wednesday at Grants Mortuary. Rosary will be 6:00 p.m. Wednesday at Saint Teresa de Avila Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 24, 2006, at Saint Teresa de Avila Catholic Church with Father Alberto Avelia officiating. Interment and Graveside Services will be held at Grants Memorial Park immediately following the Mass. DURAN -- Ricardo J. Duran, age 63, was born in Las Vegas, NM and moved to Albuquerque when he was ten years old. He passed away suddenly at his home in the North Valley. Ricardo graduated from Albuquerque High School and went on to work at Pucci Distributing where he retired after many years of service. Ricardo was preceded in death by his father, Eutemio Duran; his mother, Agneda Duran; and his brother, Johnny Duran. He is survived by his siblings, Isabel Serna and husband, Herman, Nash Duran, Tiny Castro, Eutemio Duran Jr. and wife, Connie, Paul Duran and wife, Alice; nieces and nephews, Diana Jaramillo, J.D Garcia, Beverly Aranda, Joseph Duran, Irene Sena, Ben Duran, Chris Duran, Barbara Marquez, Juan Duran, Jannette Duran, Mark and JoAnn Castro, Geet Duran, Julie Duran, Charles and Donna Duran; godchildren, Chris Duran, Renee Ackers, and Manuel Aranda Jr.; many other aunts, uncles, great-nieces and nephews, cousins, other family members and friend who loved and will miss him. GALLEGOS -- Carlos Albert Gallegos Sr., 59, a resident of Bosque Farms, NM, passed away on August 5, 2006. OLGUIN -- Nicholas (Nick) Andres Olguin, 24, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on July 29, 2006. Nicholas is the beloved son to Germaine Sena, Nick Olguin and step-father, Tony Sena. MARQUEZ -- Johnny P. Marquez, 59, a resident of Albuquerque passed away on June 16, 2006. Johnny is the beloved husband to Nora Marquez, married for 40 years. He is also survived by his children, Julian R. Marquez, Juanita J. Marquez, Jason Marquez, John D. Marquez and wife, Jeriann; six grandchildren, Noel, Jonathan, Chaundelle, Josh, Alex and John Jr.; two sisters, Rose Nunez and husband, Lucio and Marylou Andler; two brothers, Tony Marquez and wife, Rose, Isaac (Freddie) Marquez and wife, Judy; several other family members and friends. Johnny was a member of the Catholic Church and owner-operater of J. and J. Guard Dogs for over 30 years.
