She was born July 4, 1910 in Woodside, Queen's County, NY to John Taylor Farrelly and Eleanor Balfour Farrelly. Eleanor is survived by sons, Bill Maher of Brooklyn, NY, Edward F. Maher of Rio Rancho; and daughter, Mary Toponce and husband, Karl, of Albuquerque. Preceding her in death were her husband, Edward J. Maher and son, Robert J. Maher. We extend special thanks to her loving and devoted friends, Margaret King and Victor Burnworth. A woman of quiet strength, character and quick intellect, Eleanor Maher epitomized the "Greatest Generation." Eleanor left Brooklyn, NY with her husband and sons in 1947, making Albuquerque, NM her family's home. Working for the Bureau of Indian Affairs-United Pueblo Agency and later, the Farmer's Home Administration, Eleanor traveled throughout the state and pueblos, embracing New Mexico's diverse cultures, history and arts. In 1966, after the death of her husband, Eleanor moved her family to Corrales. There, following her retirement in 1970, she embarked on a new path that combined the two things that she loved, history and antiques, as the owner of Plain and Fancy Antiques. Her son Eddie was an integral part of her antique business and her day to day life during these years. Eleanor was especially proud of her and her husband's Irish heritage. Her passion for all things Irish was evidenced by her numerous books on Irish history, culture, and politics. Eleanor's eagerness to explore new places and be a constant part of her family's lives led her to travel to Ireland, England, Wales, Scotland, and Germany where she visited with Mary and Karl's family who were stationed abroad with the Air Force. Eleanor loved "antiquing" with Robert and Linda in Indiana and the Midwest. We will greatly miss her inspiring presence in our lives. She leaves behind a wealth of cherished memories in the hearts of those who loved and knew her. We will hold her gently in our hearts forever. RYAN -- Patrick Thomas Ryan, Ph.D., 42, died in a car accident Friday, June 23, 2006. He graduated from Crescent Valley High School, Oregon State University (B.S. in Mathematics, Physics), and the Air Force Institute of Technology at Wright-Patterson AFB (Masters of Engineering Physics). He then received his Doctoral Degree in Optical Physics from the University of Arizona in 1996. SACHS -- Mary C. Sachs In Loving Memory March 20, 1911 - July 2, 1998 Eight years have gone by and I find myself reminiscing back into time more and more. Our many trips to Albuquerque from Belen for example. Materials and dress patterns were what you shopped for most, you sewed almost everything I wore. While there, we'd have lunch at the Coney Island Cafe which I believe was on the corner of Fifth and Central. I'm never downtown any more yet I heard it's still there and has been renovated. In those days, that was a treat for me. I had a happy childhood, and you worked hard during that time. You cooked, you taught school everyday, and you'd burn the midnight oil sewing for me - that was special and deeply appreciated. I choose to remember you as my wise and beautiful mom who I also respected. Thank you for all the good you instilled in me. No more dwelling on the last years of your life. Those were difficult years watching you struggle with what you were not capable of understanding. You are in a better place now, and I pray we will be together one day. Until then, I remain - Your loving daughter, Angeline Sachs Velasquez
