McSorley-Morgan -- Virginia McSorley-Morgan, 87, a resident of Albuquerque since the 1940s, died Sunday, October 13, 2002. She is survived by her sons, Joe McSorley and State Senator Cisco McSorley and wife, Joanne Kuestner, all of Albuquerque; daughter-in-law, Kathryn McSorley of Albuquerque; granddaughters, Eloesa McSorley of Albuquerque but attending Wellesley College and Meaghan McSorley of Albuquerque; sister, Rosemary Meehan and husband, John of Rockville Centre, NY; and brothers, John Norton and wife, Jane of Long Island, NY and Jim Norton of Long Beach, NY. Mrs. Morgan was preceded in death by her first husband, Major Frank N. McSorley and second husband, John Morgan; sons, John McSorley and Richard McSorley. She received her Master Degree in Social Work from Fordham University. Virginia worked as a teacher in addition to being a wife and mother. She was Director of Catholic Social Services in Albuquerque and Director of Medical Social Services at St. Joseph's Hospital. Virginia volunteered for various charities and religious organizations including the St. Vincent De Paul Society and Peace and Social Justice. She traveled extensively to Asia, the Middle East, Central America, South America and Europe. Virginia loved to play the piano. She sponsored many Cuban and Vietnamese refugees. Mass was celebrated Thursday, 1:30 p.m., at the Newman Center, 1815 Las Lomas Rd. NE, with Father Robert J. Keller, O.P., Celebrant. Pallbearers will be Joe McSorley, Cisco McSorley, Eloesa McSorley, Don Schubert, Robert Flanagan and Tom McTigue. Honorary Pallbearer will be her Godson, Richard Marlborough. Interment followed at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd. NE.

Tafoya -- Eloisa Martha Tafoya, 75, passed away on Tuesday, October 15, 2002 in Albuquerque, NM. She was born November 29, 1926 to Melquiades and Guadalupe (Gallegos) Romero in Vernon, CA. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Diego Tafoya in 1989. She is survived by her sons, Patrick J. Tafoya of Socorro, NM and John J. Tafoya of Albuquerque; daughters, Guadalupe M. Tafoya-Vigil and husband, Joseph F. of Las Vegas, NM and Sandra I. Tafoya-Teets and husband, Thomas M. of Nashua, NH; brother, Melquiades D. Romero of Sterling, MA; sister, Mary Elizabeth Lopez of Albuquerque; 18 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Rosary was recited on Thursday, October 17, 2002 at 7:00 p.m. at San Miguel Catholic Church in Socorro. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, October 18, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at San Miguel with Father John Daniel as Celebrant. Interment will be in the Santa Fe National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM. Pallbearers are James R. Vigil, Michael Lopez, Vidal Martinez, Tommy Trujillo, Mark Lopez and Jacob Gonzales. Honorary Pallbearers are Joseph F. Moculeski -- Lawrence Paul Moculeski, age 50, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque died October 14, 2002. Survivors include his spouse, Diane L. Moculeski of the family home; daughter, Sarah S. Moculeski of Ft. Collins, CO; son, Alexander Lawrence Moculeski of Albuquerque, NM; sister, Sherry Ferl and husband, Mick of San Antonio, TX; mother and father-in-law, Bonnie and John Snowdon and their children. Lawrence was an avid outdoorsman and protector of the environment. Services will be held at 12:30 p.m., Thursday, October 17, 2002 in the chapel of Fitzgerald & Son Funeral Directors 3113 Carlisle Blvd NE with Chaplain Fabian Gagnon officiating. Interment will follow in the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 3:00 p.m. Serving as casket bearers will be Mick Ferl, Mike Ferl, Tom Snowdon, Joe Snowdon, Gary Stetler, Michael Zinn and Wayne Snowdon. Laguardia -- Mary Frances Janvrin LaGuardia, a resident of Las Vegas, NM since January of 1965, died in Albuquerque, NM on October 11, 2002, following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Mary was born in Boston, MA on May 18, 1920, the daughter of Bertram T. and Frances Webster Coburn Janvrin of Hampton Falls, NH. Mary grew up in Hampton Falls and attended schools in Hampton Falls and Hampton. In 1933 she attended the Northfield School for Girls in East Northfield, MA and graduated June 14, 1937. She started College in September 1937 at Pine Manor in Wellesley, MA and graduated in June of 1939. From September of 1939 to June 1941 she attended Barnard College in New York City. While in New York City her interest in music continued with special music courses at the Julliard School of Music and Columbia University. Mary loved music and singing and studied piano and organ in Boston and studied voice at the Boston Conservatory of Music. She continued her music career and was known for performing many solos at various churches, businesses and social functions. During the war, she performed many musical programs for the benefit of the U.S.O. and the National War Fund. In order to help the war effort in the Hampton Falls area, she also participated in patrolling the streets and the beaches to ensure that no lights could be seen during the"blackout period". On December 25, 1943, Mary was married at the Hampton Falls Baptist Church to Lionel G. LaGuardia, then Vice Consul at the American Embassy in Panama. They lived in Panama and Lima, Peru until settling in Hampton Falls in the early 1950's. In January 1965, Mary and her three youngest children move to Las Vegas, NM. At the age of 45 she returned to college and obtained her B.A. degree from Highlands University in June of 1968. She obtained her M.A. degree from Highlands University in June of 1969 with a major in Elementary Education and a minor in Music. Mary began her teaching career in the fall of 1968 at Paul D. Henry School in Las Vegas where she taught 4th and 5th grade. In the fall of 1978 she began teaching at Legion Park School where she taught 4th grade and Chapter I Reading. Following Highlands University, she became a Certified Reading Specialist. Mary retired from teaching in 1988 after 20 years. Her teaching career, her fellow teachers and the hundreds of students she was fortunate to know over the years were a constant source of pride to her. Following her retirement from teaching, Mary continued educating people and became a tutor in the Literacy Volunteers of America Program. She was a charter member of the Santa Fe branch of the Educational Fraternity of Phi Delta Kappa. Mary was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Las Vegas and took pride in her church related volunteer work at the Southwest Senior Center in Las Vegas. Mary's lifelong love of music continued with her participation in various concerts at Highlands University and the United World College in Montezuma, NM. Mary is survived by her three sons, Gary and family of Miami, FL, Tom of Albuquerque, NM and Allen and family of Contoocook, NH and daughter-in-law, Dolores LaGuardia of Bedford, NH. Mary is also the true mother of and survived by two daughters, Maria LaGuardia and Nina LaGuardia, both of NH. She is also survived by six grandchildren, two nieces, two nephews and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her three brothers. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 16, 2002, 11:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, 715 National in Las Vegas, NM. Services will follow at the Remick/Gendron Funeral Home in Hampton, NH with interment in the Janvrin family plot at Brookside Cemetery in Hampton Falls, NH. Geuss -- Bonnie Geuss, age 70, and a resident of Albuquerque since 1969, died on October 10, 2002 in Santa Fe. She was an ordained minister of Faith Christian Fellowship, director of Camp Sheloh, and founder and former pastor of Bible Teaching Center. Her husband, Donald W. Geuss, preceded her in death in 2000. She is survived by her children, Mark S. Geuss and wife, Alva, Daryl K. Geuss and wife, Cynthia and Glenn W. Geuss and wife, Michelle, all of Albuquerque, Christy A. Garcia and husband, Tom and Gary W. Geuss and wife, Roxanne, all of Rio Rancho and Donald K. Geuss and wife, Josephine of Tulsa, OK; two foster children, Brad Morgan and Dianne Stevenson and husband, Stewart; a sister, June Anders of Hillsboro, NM; and a brother, Pete Simmons and wife, Genie of Fishkill, NY. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren, Lisette L. Cepeda and husband, Armando, Fallen, Ariel, Matthew, Jordan, David, Joshua, Jacob, Alexandra, Revea and Zachary Geuss and Isaac and Julie Garcia; two great-grandchildren, Noelle and Mya Cepeda; and three foster great-grandchildren. Manier -- Dr. James W. Manier, 76, of Placitas, New Mexico passed away suddenly October 4, 2002. He was born in Nashville, Tennessee, August 26, 1926. He graduated from Vanderbilt University where he received a Medical Degree while serving one year in the Navy at the Naval Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida. He completed his internship at Baltimore City Hospital and started three years at the University of Wisconsin in a residency program for Internal Medicine. After completing one of the three years, he then served two years with the Air Force at Sheppard AFB in Wichita Falls, Texas. After completing his military duties, he finished his residency and became Board Certified in Internal Medicine. After a year residency in Gastroenterology at Graduate Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania he took his first position at the Marshfield Clinic. Gaining experience, he worked at the Minneapolis Veterans Hospital, the University of Iowa Hospital then returning to Marshfield Clinic. He spent a three month sabbatical at the Royal free Hospital in London gaining insight for the upcoming shift with the HMO's in the states. Upon return to the states, he practiced at the University of West Virginia, then moved to Albuquerque when he was a Gastroenterologist at Lovelace Medical Center, where he retired in 1991. He was an active participant in the Wisconsin Society of Internal Medicine, the American Medical Assoc., The American College of Physicians, Rotary Club, and Bucchus International Society. He has been on many medical boards, he wrote medical articles for numerous journals, extensive research and lectured throughout the nation. Jim loved reading books, listening to classical music, gardening, traveling, fishing, caring for his two Bishon Frises and watching the Green Bay Packers. Dr. Manier was the oldest son of the late Will R. Manier and Ruth Salom Manier. He was preceded in death by his brother Robert Manier and sister Catherine Jones. He is survived by his loving wife Jacqueline; his children, Jim Manier and his wife Lynette of MN, Karene Johnston and her husband Tom of MN, Bob Manier and his wife Patty of Ohio and Ros Pettit and her husband James of Maryland; stepchildren Cathy Norris and her husband Craig of Illinois, and Debbie LeBoulch and her husband Yannick of Florida; grandchildren, Laura, Bobby and Emma Manier, Mikki and Hannah Johnston, Chantal and Arielle LeBoulch and Isabella Norris; nieces Lucy Clyde and her husband Jim of Texas and Winnie Lindstrum and her husband Keith of MN. Jim was a true"Southern Gentleman". His presence among friends and family will be missed and memories of him will live with us forever. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to either the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society. A memorial service will be held at the Hoffmantown Church, 8888 Harper Road NE, Albuquerque, New Mexico on Saturday October 26, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. Cremation arrangements by the Sunrise Society of New Mexico, 891-8200.
