MARTINEZ -- Matias Martinez, 93, of Albuquerque, and formerly of Leadville, CO, died Tuesday, July 25, 2006 in an Albuquerque nursing home. He was born April 17, 1913 in Llano, NM to the late Gavino and Alicia Martinez. Matias began his working career in Leadville where he worked for American Smelting and Refining Company for numerous years. He opened the Grill Cafe in 1965 with Robert Martinez, Sr. They jointly owned and operated it for several years. He retired from New Jersey Zinc Company in Gilman, CO after 26 years of service in the mine and in other positions within the company. Matias was liked by everyone and never got involved in controversy. Matias was a very gentle and kind person who was devoted to his family, friends, the Catholic Church and his God. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and loved the outdoors. When asked how he wanted to be remembered, Matias said, "I want everyone to remember how we spent time together and how we always took care of each other. I also want them to remember I was the best person I could be. I always want people to say that I never spoke badly about anyone and I want them to remember that I did the best I could in my life. I worked hard, I took care of my family and loved my dear Lord, my God, my Father with all my heart." He was preceded in death by the love of his life and companion of 22 years, Cidelia Gomez-Gurule on May 8, 2006; his two sisters, Maria Inez Martinez and Porfiria Martinez; his brother, Manuel Martinez; his two half brothers, Juan Jose Arguello and Genaro Arguello. Matias is survived by his son, Manuel Martinez of Leadville, CO; his daughter, Annablle Vigil and husband, John of Broomfield, CO; his step-children, Ruby Danbury and Nancy Romero, both of Albuquerque, LeRoy Gomez and wife, Diane of Ft. Collins, CO, Delfino Gomez of Wheatridge, CO, Marie Brodie of Scottsdale, AZ, and Thomas Gomez and wife, Kathleen of Arvada, CO; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A Rosary will be recited Thursday, July 27, 2006, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel, with Deacon Kenn Sinatra reciting. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, July 29, 2006, 10:00 a.m., at Annunciation Catholic Church in Leadville, CO with Father Jay Jung, Celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in Leadville, CO. SANCHEZ -- Raul Sanchez, age 88, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, July 25, 2006 surrounded by his loving family at his home in Belen, NM. He was born on April 13, 1918. He attended UNM for one year then taught school for a short time in Seboyeta, NM before beginning a 37 year career in shipping and transportation at Sandia National Laboratories. He was a life-long parishioner of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church and was a former Knight of Columbus. Raul was a quiet man and determined "do-it-yourselfer," he took great pride in farming his land; he particularly loved driving his tractor and growing his signature crops, tomatoes and chile. His family remembers him scouring the newspaper every morning; encouraging his children to be independent; traveling with his wife at a moment's notice to visit children and grandchildren (especially upon the birth of a new grandbaby); taking an ice cream sundae to family and friends sick at home or in the hospital; and playing the slots at a nearby casino. He was preceded in death by his parents, Atanacio and Felicita Sanchez of Los Chavez; and six brothers, Vicente, Guillermo, Manuel Rito, Refugio, Serafin, Santiago, and Alberto. Raul is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Lucy Salaz Sanchez; three daughters, Lucille Peralta and husband, Gilbert of Spokane, WA, Georgia Ware, and her husband, Tom of Bayfield, CO, and Therese Dinehart and her husband, Mark of Los Alamos, NM; two sons, Dr. Steven A. Sanchez of Belen and Major John G. Sanchez, and his wife, Celine of San Antonio, TX; two sisters, Maria Stella Sanchez and Clorinda Gallegos of Los Chavez; brothers, Celso Sanchez and his wife, Eloisa of Belen, Herman Sanchez and his wife, Lucy of Albuquerque, and Alfredo Sanchez and his wife, Sari of Denver, CO; sisters-in-law, Eva Salaz Archunde, Maria Rita Sanchez, Refugia Sanchez, and Onesima Salaz; ten grandchildren; long-time family friend, Justin Chavez; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many nephews, nieces, and friends. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made through a church or favorite charity, to a family in need, or a local hospice. The family will welcome friends for a viewing on Friday, July 28, 2006 at 5:30 p.m. at Romero Funeral Home Chapel and will celebrate and honor his life with a rosary at 6:00 p.m. A final visitation will be held on Saturday, July 29, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church with a Funeral Mass to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Cemetery. BUSTAMANTE -- Patricio Ricardo Bustamante was born on March 17, 1927 in Quetzaltenango, Guatemala. He passed away on July 21, 2006. He is survived by his wife, Maria del Rosario Bustamante; his sister, Elma Lidia Mazariegos; as well as his daughters, Yoly Estrada, Sandra Bustamante, Rosita De Leon, Mayrita Orozco; and son, Edgar Bustamante; his sons-in-law, Jorge Estrada, Maco De Leon, and Estevan Orozco. He also left behind his grandchildren, Yenni, Dennis, Paty, Jessy, Karin, Jorgito, Lissette, Gilberto, Marco Vinicio, Benjamin, Brian, Victoria, and Jose Fernando; and two great-granddaughters, Leiah and Catalina. He is remembered as being a wonderful and caring father with a heart of gold and a lovable grandfather as well as a great friend to so many. We thank everyone for their support. RIBONI SANCHEZ -- Virginia Riboni Sanchez passed away on July 17, 2006. She was born in Carnuel, NM on September 19, 1931. She was preceded in death by her husband, Celedonio Sanchez and her daughter, Maria Elena Garcia. GANDARA -- Maria N. Gandara, age 94, died Thursday, July 20, 2006 at the home of her daughter, Olga Gandara, with whom she lived for the past 11 years. She was the wife of the late Feliciano P. Gandara and a former resident of Lordsburg, NM where she lived for 50 years prior to her move to Albuquerque. Maria was born in El Paso, TX to the late Filomeno and Hilaria (Barbosa) Limon. She was preceded in death by brothers, Lorenzo, Felipe, Mercedes, Ignacio, Francisco, Gregorio, Luis; and sisters, Juanita, Sr., Maria Josefa, F.C.M., Maria Clara, and Cornelia. She is survived by her sister, Teofila Palacios; and by her four children, Arturo Gandara and his wife, Linda Berg, Maria Olga Gandara, with whom she resided and her fiance, Jerry Craig, Loreto Gandara and her husband, William Hudson and Rogelio Gandara and his wife, Suzan; nieces, Beatrix Sereno and Gloria Ybarra with whom she shared a motherly relationship. Maria also leaves four grandsons and one granddaughter; and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker who loved gardening, cooking for her family and friends, and spending time with her children and family. Maria was a devout Roman Catholic and a woman of deep faith. Rosary will be recited Tuesday, July 25, 2006, at 6:30 p.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel. Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, July 26, 2006, at the Aquinas Newman Center, 1815 Las Lomas NE, with the Rev. Andrew J. Pavlak, O.P., Celebrant. SANGUINETTI -- Clara Todesco Sanguinetti, a resident of Albuquerque since 1960 and presently residing at Acantilado Vista Retirement Home, passed away on July 23, 2006 after a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mario J. Sanguinetti, who died September 14, 2003. She was 91 years old. Mrs. Sanguinetti is survived by two sons, Marco and his wife, Maria of New Bedford, MA and Christopher and his wife, Sheryl of Plano, TX; five grandsons, Marc and his wife, Catherine of Worcester, MA, James, Paul, Stephen, and Joel of New Bedford, MA; and a granddaughter, Heather of Plano, TX; and a great-grandson, Benjamin of New Bedford, MA. She is also survived by her best friends, Kim and Rick Berget and A. L. Roland of Albuquerque and Virginia Nassiff of Rio Rancho, NM. Born in San Francisco, CA on September 13, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Giovanni and Pierina Todesco, immigrants from Italy. Before her marriage to Mario, she worked as an executive secretary. She and her husband traveled extensively throughout the country and the world. They lived in various parts of the country before settling with their sons in Albuquerque. Mrs. Sanguinetti was a member of the Women's Club of Albuquerque and worked as a volunteer at the Albuquerque Museum of Natural History and the Maxwell Museum. She was an accomplished pianist, artist, and crafts person. She will be missed by her family, friends and especially by her new family at Acantilado Vista. Rosary will be recited on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. at French Mortuary - Westside Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 1502 Sara Rd., Rio Rancho, NM.
