DOW -- Frank Elisha Dow was born August 4, 1929 in Albuquerque, NM. Frank grew up in Tajique, NM. At the age of 15, he entered into the US Army to serve during World War II in the Pacific. He served in Tokyo during the occupation of Japan and later in Shanghai China and Okinawa. After the war, he returned to New Mexico to earn his High School Diploma. He worked as a parking lot attendant where he met his wife, Loretta Tartaglia. They married August 27, 1951. He worked six years for the US Post Office, and for ten years at ACF, a government defense contractor. When ACF closed in 1967 he went to work for the Defense Atomic Support Agency DOD/DNA for the nuclear test facility in Nevada. After his retirement in 1989 he held a part time job working for the Springfield Research Facility in Springfield Virginia as a data analyst for the next 10 years. Frank had a long, productive life and had experienced first hand some of the many historical events of the last century. Frank is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Loretta; his children, Lynda Benedict, Bill Dow and wife, Sandy, Diane Van der Geest and husband, Jimmy, Sandi Rogers and husband, Dean, and Staci Baca and husband, Chris; ten grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three sisters; and one brother. Rosary will be recited on Wednesday, February 10, 2010, 7:00 p.m., at French ~ Wyoming Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, February 11, 2010, at Risen Savior Catholic Community, 7701 Wyoming Blvd. NE. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 7999 Wyoming Blvd. NE. Pallbearers will be Frank Dow, Dean Rogers, Paul Dow, Denis Rogers, Danny Rogers, Corey Van der Geest, Devin Van der Geest and Shawn Van der Geest. Honorary pallbearers will include Jim Van der Geest, Dean Rogers, Chris Baca, Paul Tartaglia, Rick Stevens, Gene Tuma, Chuck Greengrass, Angelo Aquino, Dan John, Leo Dow, Edward Chavez and Frank Krest. LUCERO -- Raymond J. Lucero. Fondly known as "Ray and Pops" J. Lucero, age 70, beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, boss and friend, passed away quietly after a short battle with cancer, Thursday, February 4, 2010. MONTANO -- Ramona Montano, 76, a resident of Albuquerque, NM passed away Sunday, February 7, 2010. Mrs. Montano is survived by her loving husband of fifty-eight years, Avedon Montano; her children, Patricia Cordova and husband, Steve, Avedon Montano, Jr., Marty Montano, Johnny Montano and wife, Bernadette; sisters, Clorinda Vallez, Patsy Baca and husband, Frank, Dorothy Priest and husband, Randy; her brother, Eddie Rael; eleven grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Montano was a member of the Catholic Church. Visitation will be Wednesday, February 10, 2010, from 6:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. in the Gabaldon Memorial Chapel by Herman Flores, recitor. Final visitation will be Thursday, February 11, 2010, from 8:30 a.m. until 9:00 a.m. at St. Anne Catholic Church, 1400 Arenal Rd. ROMERO -- Beda M. Romero, 84, a longtime resident of Albuquerque passed away on February 6, 2010. She was born in Las Vegas NM on May 27, 1925 to Miguel and Josephine Madrid. She, along with her parents, moved to Albuquerque in 1964. After working at UNM for over 20 years she retired in 1987. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers along with several lifelong friends who were like family to her. She is survived by her son, Carlos A. Romero; her niece, Joann Parker, her granddaughters, Carla Romero, Camille Olson and husband George, and Darla Romero and husband Anthony, great-grandsons, Brett and Sean Romero, and various other relatives and friends. SANCHEZ -- Elsie Sanchez of Albuquerque, died February 5, 2010 at her home after a long illness. Elsie Sanchez was born in Mora County, New Mexico to Maclovio and Victoria Fresques. Her family moved to Rock Springs, Wyoming in 1923, where she attended Wyoming schools. She moved to Lamy, New Mexico in 1939, and to Albuquerque in 1940. Elsie was licensed as a Registered Midwife in 1946 and delivered babies in the home until 1985. She was the first licensed, registered midwife in the state. Over the years, she delivered nearly 2000 babies. Until declining health made it impossible, she maintained contact with many of her "families", and often received graduation and wedding invitations, and birth announcements from children she had delivered. She did a variety of work during her lifetime, including custodial, sales, office, medical secretarial, and truck driving. In 1949, she graduated from the Chicago School of Nursing as an LPN. She also attended Western School for Private Secretaries until it closed, and continued at Draughtons Business College, where she got her diploma. Her last position prior to retirement was with the New Mexico Department of Human Services, where she was employed for 25 years. In 1975, Elsie received a "Distinguished Woman of New Mexico" award, an award presented to women who at that time were making notable contributions in a variety of fields ranging from the arts to sports and professional work. In 2005, she was recognized by MANA, the Midwife Allience of North America, for her service as a Midwife. She was loved and respected by many, and will be greatly missed. She is survived by a daughter Elma M. (Joey) Tudesque, Kokomo, Indiana; sister, Stella F. Schilla, of Cleveland, Ohio; grandchildren Lillian Maestas and husband George, Miquelle Sanchez, and Emilio Tapia, Albuquerque, Shelly Brafford and husband Michael, Joseph Sonafrank and wife Anita, Laura Fortson and husband Eric, and Lanai Taylor, Kokomo, Indiana; twenty-two great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Maclovio and Victoria Fresques; brother Alex Fresques and sister, Helen Fresques Mestas, of Rock Springs, Wyoming; brother Mack Fresques of Phoenix, Arizona; brothers Alex Fresques and Fred Fresques, and sister Rose Fresques Dinelli, of Albuquerque; son Ernest M. Sanchez, and daughters Rose Tudesque Alexander and Juanita Tudesque Taylor. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 10, from 6:00 - 8:00 pm in The Daniels Family Funeral Services Carlisle Chapel, 3113 Carlisle, NE, Albuquerque. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 11, 11:00 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Haines Street Ward, 5709 Haines Ave. NE, with Bishop Jeff Croasdell officiating, Interment will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery, 1900 Edith Blvd, NE. SEERY -- David William Seery, 62, passed away peacefully at his home near La Joya, New Mexico on Friday, February 5, 2010. He is survived by his wife and friend Carol; two sons, Chris and Scott; two daughters-in-law, Joy and Keavy; four grandchildren, Taylor, Cody, Samantha (Mandy) and Ryan; two sisters, Margaret Snow of Carlsbad, New Mexico and Marilyn Beal of Denver, Colorado; his brother and wife, Al and Josephine Seery of Bosque Farms, New Mexico; aunt, Georgia Seery of Socorro, New Mexico; brother-in-law and good friend, Bruce L. Anderson of Silver City, New Mexico; and numerous loving cousins, nieces and nephews. Dave was a graduate of New Mexico State University and spent a full career as a Wildlife Biologist for the Soil Conservation Service (SCS), now referred to as Natural Resources and Conservation Service (NRCS). In his retirement, he volunteered with stream reparation work for the NM Riparian Council. He served as an Airman First Class in the New Mexico Air National Guard and was a Vietnam War Veteran. He held memberships in The Wildlife Society, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Rickshaws Motor Club and Route 66 Rodders. His passion and love of life was evident in his dedication to caring for and enjoying family, working with wildlife, fly-fishing, hunting, playing music, writing books on family genealogy and sailing as well as writing hunting articles for various magazines, traveling, and participating in car shows with family and friends. Graveside services will be held at Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery, 924 Menaul Blvd., NE, Albuquerque, NM on Saturday, February 13, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Legacy@rmef.org. VREDENBURGH -- Lt. Col. William O. Vredenburgh, US Army ret., 89, passed away February 6, 2010. He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Georgia (Tillery) Vredenburgh; his son, Dr. Jesse W. Vredenburgh and his wife Terry, of Corpus Cristy, TX; one grandchild, Jesse Vredenburgh; five step-children, Gayle Pedrick, George Tillery, Gary Tillery, Glen Tillery, and Gena Hoagland; 13 step-grandchildren; two great step-grandchildren; brother, Robert Vredenburgh and his wife Betty; two sisters, Gertrude McLean and her husband Charlie, and Joan Harris and her husband Ransom. William was preceded in death by his first wife of 34 years, Mildred (Munsel) Vredenburgh in 1978, three brothers, Fletcher, Richard, and Edmond. He was a graduate of the Baylor University Law School, May of 1955 with an LLB Degree, and later receiving a J.D. degree in 1969. William taught middle school English. He is a Retired US Army Lt. Col., Civitan Pres, Boy Scout Master, member of the Immanuel Presbyterian Church and attended Sandia Baptist Church. Visitation will be held Wednesday, February 10, 2010, from 4:00 - 6:00 pm, at Daniels Family Funeral Services, Wyoming Chapel. WHEATLEY -- Alice M. Wheatley, 97, a resident of Albuquerque since 1953, died Thursday, February 4, 2010. She is survived by her children, Phyllis J. Latham and husband, Jesse of Republic, KS and Thomas E. Wheatley of Corpus Christi, TX; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Wheatley was preceded in death by her husband, George O. Wheatley. She was born in Superior NE, and lived in KS, CA, CO and NV before settling down in Albuquerque. Quilting was a passion of hers. Mrs. Wheatley was a member of the National Quilting Association as well as being active in the Fourth St. Senior Center, the Candelaria Community Center, as well as many other quilting groups.
