TRUJILLO -- Adelia Trujillo, 77, longtime resident of Albuquerque, NM, passed away peacefully on February 16, surrounded by her loving family. Adelia Trujillo was born May 21, 1933 in Juan Tomas NM, to the late Pablo and Juanita Martinez. She was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband Daniel Trujillo Jr.; brother, Fred Martinez; and granddaughter Angel Marie Garcia. She is survived by her sons, Jim Trujillo and wife jeda, Daniel Gutierrez and Caroline; daughters, Theresa Perea and husband Joey, Barbara Montano and husband Peter, Christine Mora and husband Emilio D., Darlene Trujillo and Debbie Trujillo; 18 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren; sister, Lucy Griego; brothers, Robert Martinez, William Martinez, Polo Martinez and Johnny Martinez. During her long and happy life she enjoyed making cakes, pottery, ceramics, painting and going to the casino. She was also the consummate homemaker, wife, mother and grandma, who loved her family above all else and was dearly loved in return. Adelia's and Daniel's legacy to their family is as role models, reflected in their love and devotion to each other and their family for 55 wonderful years. A Visitation will be held on Monday, February 21, 2011 from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m., at Salazar & Sons Mortuary. The Rosary will be recited on Monday February 21, 2011 at 6:00 p.m., at St. Therese Catholic Church, 3424 4th St. NW. Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, February 22, 2011 at 9:30 a.m., at St. Therese Catholic Church. Before going to Santa Fe National Cemetery a reception will follow at 1507 Avenida Cristo Rey NW 87107. Interment is to follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery at 2:30 p.m., 501 N. Guadalupe St. Santa Fe, NM. Pallbearers will be her daughter Darlene Trujillo; granddaughters, Nadine Rowland, Nicole and Erica Perea, Rachel Gallegos, Ashley Casaus. WELLS -- Claudie Ray Wells, 82, went to his heavenly reward on February 15, 2011, at his home in Rio Rancho, NM. He is survived by his son, Gerald Wells and wife Peggy of Atlanta, GA; daughters, Donna Ortiz and husband Carl of Albuquerque, NM, Diana Wells of Nogal, NM, Debbie Wells of Ruidoso, NM; sister-in-law, Judith O'Brien and husband Carol Finkbeiner of Tularosa, NM; brother, Bill Wells of Claunch, NM; sisters, Nora Austin of Estancia, NM, Dora Hubbard of San Antonio, NM, Lora Morris of Andrews, TX; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie in 2005; parents; three brothers; granddaughter, Jessica; great-granddaughter, Janise. Ray (he never used Claudie, most people did not even realize that was his name) was born August 30, 1928 in Gran Quivira, NM on the family homestead to James L. and Mennel Lee McDaniel Wells. He attended Barber College in Fort Worth, TX at the age of 17. He proudly served his country in the Army enlisting in 1946. He was stationed in Japan and Alaska in the medical squadron. He was later in the Navy, serving in several areas including Boston. While in Boston, he was set up on a blind date with Marjorie Sully, whom he married in Billerica, MA on June 14, 1952. Ray barbered in Boston until they moved to Carrizozo, NM, at which time Ray opened his own barber shop in late 1954. Ray and Marjorie operated several businesses in Carrizozo, living and raising their family there for 45 years. Ray became an ordained minister and was the pastor of the Assemblies of God Church in Carrizozo and later in Ruidoso. His dedication to the ministry led him to do visiting and preaching in many different places for much of his life. Ray and Marge lived in Nogal and Ruidoso, eventually building several homes and settling in Rio Rancho, NM. He was a faithful member of the Grace Outreach Center in Rio Rancho making many good friends there. Ray was a very special person, loved by many, possessing a wonderful sense of humor, and the best example of a kind, selfless, Christian man that we, his family will ever know. Visitation and viewing will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, February 18, 2011 with Funeral Services following at 2:00 p.m., at Grace Outreach Center, 2900 Southern Boulevard SE, Rio Rancho, NM. BARNHILL -- Dr. Jamie Gwyn Barnhill June 8, 1954 to January 30, 2011 Jamie began her life in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Traveling through the Academic World from Emerson Elementary, Van Buren Junior High, Highland High School (never letting people forget she was a Fighting Hornet) and then onto the University of New Mexico where she earned her degree as a Pharmacist in 1977. But with her constant search for knowledge, continued on to earn her next degree as a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Science at the University of Connecticut in 1986. From there she accepted a dual appointment with Tuffs New England Medical Center and the Jamaica Plain VA in Boston, MA. In 1990, Jamie returned to Albuquerque to accept another dual appointment as Chief of the Biopharmaceutics/ Pharmacokinetics Laboratory at the VA Cooperative Studies Program Clinical Research Pharmacy Coordinating Center and as Associate Professor of Pharmaceutics at the University of New Mexico College of Pharmacy. Her devotion to her research generated many publications during her lifetime but it was her passion for teaching that allowed her to pass on the knowledge of a career she loved, to well over 1500 practicing pharmacists over the past 20 years. With all the degrees and accomplishments to her mention, the one thing that Jamie will be remembered for the most was her unique, fun-loving and often irreverent view of life. She loved people and she loved to entertain. When you were with her, she made you feel special, and that you would always be part of her "Secret Club". Jamie passed away while on vacation in Connecticut at Hartford Hospital after a six week battle against a genetic liver condition, Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency, that she never knew she had until it was too late. Jamie is survived by her Life Partner of 31 years, Joan Korkie Kerkin; her mother Bobby Barnhill; brother and sister-in-law, John and Shannon Barnhill and their children Jacob and Emma; sister Lynn Barnhill and her children Mayzie and Ava; brother and sister-in-law, Ross and Connie Barnhill and their children Ryan and Rhonda, and Rhonda's children Sebastian, Michael and Matthew; and many cousins; Also her extended family in Connecticut and Massachusetts: Pat and Wally White, Wally and Katy White and their children Billy, Emily and Tommy; Stacy and Kim White; Barbara and Walt Darcey; Tom and Amanda Darcey and their children Aidan, Brenna, Owen and Will; Joan and Albert Kerkin; Carole Kerkin and her children Zachary and Sam; Lisa and Kevin Bundy and their children Paige and Patrick; and Chris and Chris Morgan and their children Kimberly and Michael, all of which were of great help and support to both Korkie and Jamie while they were there. Jamie was pre-deceased by her father, Jim Barnhill; her paternal grandparents, JC and Eleanor Barnhill; and her maternal grandparents, Robert and Gwyneth Taylor. A special thank you goes to the staff, nurses and doctors at Manchester and Hartford Hospitals for their wonderful care of Jamie. A Life Celebration for Jamie will be held at the UNM Student Union Building (SUB) Ballroom on Saturday, February 19, 2011 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Please come and join us, and share your favorite Jamie story. BAUMGARTEL -- Howard John Baumgartel, Jr., beloved father, grandfather, professor, humanitarian, activist for social justice, and friend, died on Saturday, February 12, 2011 at the Montebello Assisted Living Facility in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He died on the 202nd anniversary of the birth of Abraham Lincoln, whose picture hung on his wall his entire adult life. Howard grew up in western Pennsylvania and attended Yale University and Wabash College, where he earned his bachelor's degree, before joining the US Navy in 1942. During the Second World War, Howard served in the Pacific aboard the USS Ringgold as a gunnery officer. He participated in many battles, most notably at Tarawa. While on leave in 1945, Howard married Nancy Taggart in Indianapolis, who became the mother of his three children. They honeymooned in Chicago at the same hotel where Lauren Bacall and Humphrey Bogart were spending their honeymoon. After being mustered out of the Navy, he earned an MBA at Harvard University. After working in investment banking, Howard decided to become an academician and taught at the University of Kansas (KU) for three years before attending graduate school at the University of Michigan, where he earned his Ph.D. in 1955. Howard returned to KU and worked in the Psychology Department and School of Business until he retired in 1988. Howard made many notable contributions to academic life at KU. The single largest of these was his starting and developing the Human Relations program at the university, a program based on the human potential movement of the 1950s and 1960s. Howards professional life took him to India six times, twice as a Fulbright Scholar. Each time he worked toward the economic development of the nation and made lifelong friends, especially at the Xavier Labor Relations Institute in Jamshedpur. For four years, Howard served as an assistant dean in the College of Arts and Sciences at KU. Howard married Marguerite Myers Kerfoot, a professor of art education at KU, in 1964 in Calcutta, and they lived together happily in Lawrence, Kansas until she died in October, 2009. Marguerite brought three children of her own into Howard's extended family. After retiring, Howard devoted his time to many interests, worked in a hospice program and began attending various churches in the Lawrence area. He and Nancy had joined the Mount Oread Friends Meeting in Lawrence in the late 1950s and, as his retirement years passed, he attended that meeting more and more regularly. In 2009, Howard suffered a major stroke and moved into Brandon Woods, an assisted living facility in Lawrence and was joined there by Marguerite a few months later. In December of 2009, he moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico to live closer to his family and shared with them many wonderful times in the year before he died. Howard is survived by six children: Mona Baumgartel, John Baumgartel, Tom Baumgartel, Bill Kerfoot, Charles Kerfoot, and John Kerfoot; ten grandchildren, on the Baumgartel side: Elaine, Sylvie, Jeremiah, and Lukas, and on the Kerfoot side: Chris, Kerry, Alex, Katie, Joshua, and Travis; and five great- grandchildren. Memorial Services will be held for Howard on Saturday, February 19, 2011 at 4:00 p.m. at French ~ Wyoming Chapel in Albuquerque. BELEY -- Amy Jo Beley was born at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio on September 6, 1964. She grew up in Tuscarawas Country, Ohio, where she was active in 4-H and the Explorers with the Sheriff's Department, and she graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1982. She was an EMT in New Philadelphia, Ohio and in Atlanta, Georgia and served in the Army National Guard. She was honorably discharged in 1990. Her lifelong passion for animals lead her to dog training; she became the first female K-9 officer on the East Coast. As a result of her search and rescue training and her willingness to voluntarily serve her community and her country, she lead and participated in many search and rescue efforts in Ohio and the surrounding states. In 2001, while living in Columbus Ohio, she and her dog Kayla responded to the September 11th crisis by going to New York. Upon their return, Amy Jo and Kayla received a commendation from Ohio Governor Bob Taft. Her compassion for others continued until her death. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Byrd and Ann Lynn of San Diego, CA and Arthur and Mary Henry of Freeport, OH. She is survived by her mother, Bonnee Henry, of Albuquerque; her sister Katy Nameth and brother-in-law Alex Levine of Los Angeles; her aunt and uncle, Jody and Jim Wheatley of Rio Rancho, NM; several cousins; and her beloved German Shepherd, Elsa. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 19, 2011 at 11:00 a.m., at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 2801 Lomas Boulevard NE, Albuquerque, NM. COLE -- Jean M. Cole, 87, of Albuquerque, devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on February 15, 2011. A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011 at Shepherd of the Valley Presbyterian Church, 1801 Montano, Albuquerque, 344-9798. Jean was born February 15, 1924 in Sallisaw, Oklahoma to James L. and Billie McDonald. She grew up in small Oklahoma towns with her two older brothers and a raft of friends. She later went on to the University of Oklahoma where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and received a degree in Business Administration. Jean met the love of her life, Charles "Ed" Cole, while she was still in high school. Their love continued through his tour of duty in World War II, his career as a geological engineer, their early retirement to an Oregon ranch, a second retirement to Paso Robles, CA, and their shared life of adventure for more than 58 years. Ed died February 4, 2005. Soon after, Jean relocated to Albuquerque with her Labrador dog and constant companion, Dottie, and quickly made a new circle of dear friends in her church and community. Jean's greatest loves were her family and friends. She cultivated lifelong friendships through decades of correspondence, e-mail, and phone calls that continued until the day she died. Jean's amazing passion for life, her infectious laughter, and the depth of her caring will remain a gift to all who love her so dearly. A person treasured for her warmth, vibrancy, and sense of humor, Jean is survived by son, Charles, and his wife Janice; daughter Margaret Parks and her husband, Ken; daughter Nancy Cole; and grandchildren James and Tom Cole; Lauren Parks and her husband Kevin, Kristin Parks, and Ryan Cole.
