BELEY -- Amy Jo Beley was born at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio on September 6, 1964. She grew up in Tuscarawas Country, Ohio, where she was active in 4-H and the Explorers with the Sheriff's Department, and she graduated from New Philadelphia High School in 1982. She was an EMT in New Philadelphia, Ohio and in Atlanta, Georgia and served in the Army National Guard. She was honorably discharged in 1990. Her lifelong passion for animals lead her to dog training; she became the first female K-9 officer on the East Coast. As a result of her search and rescue training and her willingness to voluntarily serve her community and her country, she lead and participated in many search and rescue efforts in Ohio and the surrounding states. In 2001, while living in Columbus Ohio, she and her dog Kayla responded to the September 11th crisis by going to New York. Upon their return, Amy Jo and Kayla received a commendation from Ohio Governor Bob Taft. Her compassion for others continued until her death. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Byrd and Ann Lynn of San Diego, CA and Arthur and Mary Henry of Freeport, OH. She is survived by her mother, Bonnee Henry, of Albuquerque; her sister Katy Nameth and brother-in-law Alex Levine of Los Angeles; her aunt and uncle, Jody and Jim Wheatley of Rio Rancho, NM; several cousins; and her beloved German Shepherd, Elsa. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 19, 2011 at 11:00 a.m., at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 2801 Lomas Boulevard NE, Albuquerque, NM.
