Welby -- Joseph L. Welby, 42, a resident of Albuquerque since 1958, died after a brief illness on Wednesday, April 8, 1998. Joe was born in Norwood, MA on April 16, 1955 to Thomas and Dorothy Welby. He is survived by his wife, Lorrie M. Welby of the family home; daughter, Crista M. Welby Fair and husband, Robert of Albuquerque; son, Joseph L. Welby Jr. of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Tyler Michelle, Delaina Leigh, Brennan Robert and Celeste Noelani; his mother, Dorothy Welby Lewis and husband, Delbert of Santa Fe; brothers and sisters, Jane Despain and husband, Darwin and Daniel Welby, all of Montrose, CO, John M. Welby and wife, Vikki, James T. Welby and wife, Michelle and Maryellen Gibbons and husband, James, all of Albuquerque; and aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and many dear friends. Joe was preceded in death by his father, Thomas A. Welby. He graduated from Sandia High School in 1973 and attended the University of Albuquerque. Joe was married in 1973. He worked for many years promoting several national rodeos. Joe was responsible for promoting the Superbull Tour, the largest bull riding tour in the world, which was held every January in Albuquerque, as well as the New Mexico Bull Riding Championship, which was held every September. Rosary will be recited Sunday, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE, with Fr. Paul Baca reciting. Gabaldon -- Ernesto"Ernie" Gabaldon, 71, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died Thursday, April 9, 1998. He is survived by his wife, Helen J. Gabaldon of Albuquerque; sons, Raymond E. Gabaldon and wife, Lori of Oceano, CA and Steven M. Gabaldon and wife, Denise of Phoenix, AZ; sisers, Antonia M. Sandoval and Roberta Myers and husband, Henry, all of Albuquerque; and brother, Henry Gabaldon and wife, Bernice of Albuquerque. Mr. Gabaldon was past president of National Letter Carriers Association in Albuquerque and he was past president of Rural Letter Carriers Association. He was a member of American Legion, Post 99, the Elk's Lodge, and he was past Post Commander of American Legion, Post 72. Mr. Gabaldon retired after 37 years with the US Postal Service in 1985 and was a bailiff with the State 2nd Judicial District Court. Rosary will be recited Sunday, 7:00 p.m., at Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, with Deacon Bob Lewis reciting. Lopez -- Andrea (Andy) C. Lopez, 80, a resident of Albuquerque since 1961, died Friday, April 10, 1998. She is survived by her son, Lionel C. Lopez and wife, Priscilla of Silver City, NM; daughter, Celia C. Lopez of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Patrick Lopez and wife, Susan of Silver City, NM, Eric Lopez and wife, Margaret of Las Cruces, NM, and Kellie Dickens of Rio Rancho; great-grandchildren, Priscilla Lopez, Jacque Lopez, and Alonzo Lopez, all of Las Cruces, NM; sister, Helen Jauriqui of Bayard, NM; niece and special friend, Margaret DeLong of Albuquerque; son-in-law, Lewis T. Dickens of Rio Rancho; and numerous other family members and friends. Also her special friends at Paloma Blanca and Cornucopia Adult Day Care. Bland -- Linnie W. Bland, 88, a resident of Albuquerque for 51 years, died Monday, March 16, 1998. Mrs. Bland was born in Texas County, OK. She was one of seven children and is the last to pass away. Mrs. Bland was an active member of Heights Baptist Church. She was at one time a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Bland loved to help people. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She will be greatly missed. Mrs. Bland is survived by her daughter, Virginia Payne; grandson, Gary Payne, both of Albuquerque; nieces, Morine Rayburn of Guymon, OK, Lavern Rayburn and husband, Lewis of Huntington Beach, CA, and Deverriel Walker of Woodward, OK; nephew, Richard Wilson and wife, Charlyn of Cypress, CA; numerous great-nieces, and great-nephews; and granddaughter-in-law, Lisa Y. Payne of Albuquerque. She was preceded in death by her husband, Milton; son-in-law, Allan Payne; grandson, Randy Payne; sister, Velma; and brother-in-law, Carmen Nall. Hills -- Robert G. Hills, 76, a resident of Albuquerque since 1934, passed away Thursday, March 12, 1998. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Faye Hills (Lewis) of Albuquerque; daughters, Linda F. Massey and husband, James of Albuquerque, and Catherine L. Pires and husband, Richard of Phoenix, AZ; son, Robert G. Hills and wife, Ann of Albuquerque; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Christman of Casper, WY; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Patsy Marie Hills; two brothers; and three sisters. Bob was born in Raton, NM on September 3, 1921 to George and Esther (Hanson) Hills. He was a veteran of WWII serving in Germany. He was owner and operator of B & D Mfg. Co. from 1951 to 1972. Bob was noted for his active participation in AA for 42 years. He served as secretary then delegate for the State of New Mexico in AA. Bob was a member of the Church of Christ. Graveside services will be held Monday, 10:00 a.m., at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul NE, with Dr. Harvey Porter officiating.
