Bland -- Linnie W. Bland, 88, a resident of Albuquerque for 51 years, died Monday, March 16, 1998. Mrs. Bland was born in Texas County, OK. She was one of seven children and is the last to pass away. Mrs. Bland was an active member of Heights Baptist Church. She was at one time a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Bland loved to help people. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She will be greatly missed. Mrs. Bland is survived by her daughter, Virginia Payne; grandson, Gary Payne, both of Albuquerque; nieces, Morine Rayburn of Guymon, OK, Lavern Rayburn and husband, Lewis of Huntington Beach, CA, and Deverriel Walker of Woodward, OK; nephew, Richard Wilson and wife, Charlyn of Cypress, CA; numerous great-nieces, and great-nephews; and granddaughter-in-law, Lisa Y. Payne of Albuquerque. She was preceded in death by her husband, Milton; son-in-law, Allan Payne; grandson, Randy Payne; sister, Velma; and brother-in-law, Carmen Nall. Services will be held Saturday, 3:30 p.m., at Chester T. French Memorial Mausoleum Chapel, 924 Menaul NE, with Rev. Carmen L. Conner officiating. Braziel -- Kenneth Richard Braziel, 75, died at his home in Santa Fe of a massive heart attack on Tuesday, March 17. Marvel, his wife of 53 years, was with him. He skied with dear friends at the Santa Fe Ski Basin the day before his death. Ken lived a full and joyful life. He was born in Gebo, Wyoming in 1922 and raised in Billings, Montana, where he married Marvel, his high school sweetheart, in 1944. They married when he was home on leave during WWII, and within days he returned to his duties. He was a lead navigator in the Army Air Corps and flew 33 missions over Germany. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and he retired from the Army Reserves as a Colonel. After the war, Kenneth and Marvel graduated from the University of Montana at Bozeman. He earned degrees in liberal arts and engineering. Ken and Marvel came to New Mexico in 1955, where they raised their four children. Ken was a longtime employee of the Department of Energy and he was serving as the Manager of the Department of Energy in Los Alamos when he retired in 1982. He was known by his colleagues as a leader of great integrity. Ken is celebrated by those who knew him for his devotion to his family. His love for his wife was legendary and his honesty, humility and honor were a touchstone for those around him. He found great joy on the ski slopes, the tennis court, and in his home and friendships. He was a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and of Self Help for the Hard of Hearing (SHHH), an organization founded to support people with hearing loss. Ken had a significant hearing loss, had received a cochlear implant and took an active interest in related matters. He is survived by his wife, Marvel; daughter, Kathryn Braziel and her partner, Elizabeth Doak; son, Richard and his wife, Rita Brzaiel and their children, Jennifer, Kenneth and Laura of Albuquerque; daughter, Rita Braziel and her husband, Keith Lanier and their children, Andy, Nikki and Ginny of Portland, OR; daughter, Janet Braziel and her husband, Robert Lynn and their children, Jack and Charlie of Corrales; sisters, Ruth Braziel and Zola Betz of Denver; a brother, Wayne Braziel and his wife, Helen of Billings, MT; and niece, Evelyn McClearn and her husband, Bill of Denver, CO. Cremation has taken place. Services will be held on Saturday, March 21, 1:00 p.m., at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Faith, 311 East Palace Avenue, Santa Fe. Briley -- Alice Briley, 84, a resident of Albuquerque since 1933, passed away Monday, March 16, 1998, due to natural causes. She is survived by her sons, James A. Stewart and wife, Rosa of Albuquerque, and Richard V. Stewart and wife, Judy of Sandia Park; daughters, Marion E. Bechdel and husband, Bud of Albuquerque, and Elaine B. Garcia of Houston, TX; sister, Jean Lesea and husband, John of Phoenix, AZ; and brother, Richard Wilson and wife, Lois of Santa Rosa, CA. She was preceded in death by her husbands, James V. Stewart and Albert Briley. Mrs. Briley was a graduate of the University of New Mexico, majoring in English and Biology. She was a poet, lecturer, teacher, editor and author, working as secretary in the Albuquerque Public School system. Mrs. Briley won numerous national and local awards for poetry and published over 400 poems appearing in the Wall Street Journal, Epos, Saturday Evening Post, Denver Post, Lyric, Good Housekeeping, and many other national magazines. She is listed in the International Who's Who in Poetry 1970-71, and the Writer's Directory, 1971-73. Mrs. Briley was the creator and editor of Encore, a Quarterly of Poetry and Related Arts, as well as the editor of Strophes, the national bulletin of the National Federation of State Poetry Societies. She was the co-editor of"Turquoise Land" and"Sandscript", poetry anthologies. Mrs. Briley was the founder of the New Mexico Chapter of the National Federation of State Poetry Societies, and served both as its local and national president. She was the president of the National League of American Pen Women in 1972. Mrs. Briley was also a member of the Mavericks, a distinguished group of professional writers from New Mexico. She was also instrumental in procurring the governor's proclamation of October 16th as Poetry Day in the state of New Mexico. Mrs. Briley was the author of"From a Weaver's Shuttle", which won the N M F S P S book contest in 1976. Her anthology,"Encore, Encore", was featured in the Peoples' Republic of China, as a fine example of American poetry. Mrs. Briley was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church. Services will be held Saturday, 11:00 a.m., at First United Methodist Church, 314 Lead SW, with Rev. Clyde Stanfield officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul NE. Pallbearers will be Richard Stewart, Jason Stewart, Ron Snow, Gary Snow, Ed Brennan, and Arthur Stewart. Candelaria -- Rosie Candelaria, 76, passed away on March 16, 1998 in Albuquerque. She was born in La Madera, NM and was a member of San Antonio de Las Huertas. She was preceded in death by her father, Dominic Garbagni; mother, Manuelita Garbagni; brother, Mike Garbagni. She is survived by her son, Andrew Candelaria and girlfriend, Martha Trujillo of Albuquerque; brother, Johnnie Garbagni and wife, Dioly of Albuquerque; brother, Raymond Garbagni and wife, Marcela of Albuquerque; sister, Esquipula (Skippy) Garbagni of Albuquerque; sister, Mary Valtierra of Albuquerque; sister, Silvia Garbagni of Albuquerque; granddaughter, Alexandra Candelaria of Albuquerque; grandson, Andrew Candelaria Jr. of Albuquerque; and numerous nieces and nephews. Daugherty -- Mildred Daugherty, 90, passed away Friday, March 6, 1998, in Golden, Colorado. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; and her son, Robert Jr. She is survived by six grandchildren, San Burnham of Golden, CO, Mark, Grant and Jeff of Albuquerque, James of Orlando, FL, and Rachel of Houston, TX; and seven great-grandchildren. She was a longtime resident of Albuquerque before moving to Houston, TX, then to Golden, CO. A family service will be held March 21, 1998. England -- John D."Jack" England, 71, a resident of Rio Rancho, passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 1998, following a sudden illness. Jack was born August 30, 1926, the son of John and Alpha Joseph England in Detroit, Michigan. He came to Albuquerque over 50 years ago and had worked for Sandia Laboratories for 30 years before he retired. Jack was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mary; son, David and wife, Jan of Albuquerque; son, Tim and wife, Teresa of Rio Rancho; daughter-in-law, Liz of Albuquerque; and grandchildren, Brian, Michael, Willie and Alicia; nephew, Donald Haskell of San Diego, CA; nieces, Colleen Haskett of Edgewood, NM, and Barbara Ryan of Greer, SC. He was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed. Private interment is pending. Garcia -- Evaristo Garcia, age 100 years and five months, passed away at the home of his daughter in Rio Rancho on March 13, 1998. He was born in Cerro, New Mexico and was retired from the New Mexico State Game and Fish Dept. He was also a member of the SPMDTU. He was preceded in death by his wife, Luisita Garcia; and also his daughter, Orlinda Cardenas. He is survived by three daughters and one son, Mary Arellano of Questa, Lila Cerna and husband, Ben of Hesperia, CA, Eddie Garcia and wife, Dolores of Las Vegas, NV, and Bonnie Kegley and husband, Joe of Rio Rancho, NM; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; also numerous nieces and nephews. Rosary was recited on Saturday, March 14, 1998, and on Sunday, March 15, 1998 in Cerro, NM. Funeral mass was held at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Cerro on March 16, 1998, followed by burial next to his wife at the Cerro Cemetery. Pallbearers were Tom Cardenas, Brent Kennedy, Robert Cerna, Edmund Garcia, Beto Herrera, Roman Cardenas, Ronnie Cardenas, Lonnie Cardenas, Danny Cerna. Eulogist was Jerry Ben Sanchez. Gilbert -- Margaret Kane Gilbert, widow of Walter B. Gilbert, passed away March 18, 1998 at the age of 91. Born October 25, 1906 in Clarksburg, West Virginia. She was a member of the P.E.O. and a resident of Albuquerque since 1916. Survived by a son, Roger Gilbert and wife, Sally of Albuquerque; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at a later date and interment will be at Fairview Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Boys Ranch of New Mexico. Gonzales -- Robert Victor Gonzales, born March 26, 1973, in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, lost his courageous battle with cancer at Baylor Hospital on March 14, surrounded by is mom, sister and favorite nurses on 6 Roberts. Victor was a change management consultant in the Dallas office of Andersen Consulting. Vic graduated in 1991 with honors from Eldorado High School in Albuquerque, where he served as student body president and homecoming king. He graduated with honors from SMU in 1995. Vic was a Herkimer scholar and was active in many activities, including first year council, Mustang Link, and was a residence man advisor. Also, Alpha Kappa Psi business fraternity, CHAS, Golden Key National Honor Society, and Mortar Board. He worked as an intern at the US-Mexico Chamber of Commerce in Dallas. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Marlin Victor Griggs of Garland. Vic is survived by his mother, Virginia Griggs; and sister, Stephanie Gonzales of Allen; his beloved dog, Snoopy; grandmother, Julia Griggs of Garland; aunt, Andrea Hanna; and cousin, Amy; Godson, Maxwell Hansen of Columbus, OH; aunt, Norma Cassity of New Boston, TX; father, Ronald Gonzales of Atlanta, GA; and his namesake, Lily Victoria Cordova of Albuquerque. Jacoby -- Katherine P. Jacoby, 87, passed away Tuesday, March 17, 1998. She was born in Wilhelmshaven, Germany on May 3, 1910. After living in Chicago for many years, Mrs. Jacoby moved to Albuquerque in 1973. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Victor Jacoby. Mrs. Jacoby is survived by her children, Ruth Schmid and husband, Robert of Mt. Prospect, IL and William Jacoby and wife, Joan of Albuquerque; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Kuconis -- Anne C. Kuconis, 89, a resident of Albuquerque, died Sunday, March 15, 1998. She is survived by her daughters, Barbara Nash Werme of Albuquerque and Jeannette Kuconis Rice of Hurricane, UT; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister, Georgeanna O'Brien of Hamilton, MA; and many other family members and friends. Mrs. Kuconis was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Samuel Kuconis. She was a member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church. She volunteered at the election polls for many years in Albuquerque. She moved to Albuquerque from Ipswich, MA, where she was a former member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Catholic Women's Club. Luna -- Mrs. Cora Luna, 65, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away on March 17, 1998. Mrs. Luna was the beloved wife of 47 years to Mr. David A. Luna. She is also survived by one daughter, Linda Garza and husband, Joe; one son, David Luna Jr. and fiancee, Tish Jones; two brothers, Larry Sandoval and wife, Roberta and Ignacio Sandoval and wife, Theresa; one sister, Frances Finley and husband, Gordon; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Mrs. Luna was preceded in death by her parents, Donaciano and Stella Sandoval; a daughter, Stella Gutierrez; and a sister, Alice Arias. Mrs. Luna was a member of the Catholic Church. Mccleary -- Pauline L. McCleary, 87, passed away on March 16, 1998 in Albuquerque. She taught at the Acoma Indian School, the Indian Boarding School, and retired from Garfield Middle School as an art teacher. She was active in the Alliance Against Animal Abuse, Animal Protection of New Mexico, and was very active in the overall protection of animal rights. She is survived by her sisters, Parva Downs and Geraldine Merrill, both of Trinidad, CO; nieces, Lenora Butler and Jacque Baughman of Colorado Springs, CO and Marilyn Davenport of Belen, NM; nephews, Dr. H. Willard Downs of Columbia, MO, Larry and Bernard Parsons and Janice Haught of Weston, CO; and many other nieces, nephews and friends. Sasser -- Dallas W. Sasser, 69, a resident of Albuquerque since 1957, died Wednesday, March 18, 1998. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Arlys A. Sasser of Albuquerque; son, Carey Sasser and wife, Linda of Itasca, IL; daughters, Danelle Sasser Wolfson and husband, Dan of Austin, TX and Lori A. Snider -- Rita Merle Snider, 72, of Bosque Farms, NM, passed away Wednesday, March 18, 1998 in an Albuquerque hospital. She was born July 27, 1925 in Mexia, Texas to Warney and Ethel Gilliand West of whom have preceded her in death. Rita was raised in Lincoln County near Capitan, she later moved to Scholle with the family, graduating from the Mountainair High School. During WWII she worked for the Santa Fe Railroad. Moving to Santa Fe, she was employed at the Telephone Company, she had also worked with I.C.X. Trucking while living in Albuquerque. After her retirement from the trucking company she helped her husabnd, Andy, with the feed stores and Spear Cross Ranch in Tijeras and Bosque Farms, they made a good pair."Take a deep seat and a short rein, Rita, and enjoy the ride." She married Andrew Neal Snider on February 10, 1967 in Albuquerque, he preceded her in death in 1997. She is survived by son, James Marshall Patty of Tishomingo, MS; step-sons, Neal Snider of Bosque Farms, Kenneth Dillon of Albuquerque; step-daughters, Debbie Snider of Hedgesville, WV, Erin Marable of Watrous, NM; sister, Juanell Henderson and husband, Kenneth of Ft. Sayotovich of Fort Collins, CO, Mark John, Andy Jack and wife, Lisa of Bosque Farms, Christopher Snider of Emmitsburg, MD; great-grandson, Andrew of Bosque Farms; cousins, Jettie Sullinger of Mountainair, Linda and Hollis Bynum of Alamogordo, NM, and Velma Trout of Los Lunas; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 21, 1998 at the Harris-Hanlon Chapel of the Cedars in Mountainair with Reverend Don Hayhurst officiating. Burial will follow in the Mountainair Cemetery with Delbert Autry, Bob Davis, Ryan Davis, Frank Metzler, Celso Sanchez and Randal Davis serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Ben and Sue Gardner, Jerry Gardner, Judy Davis and John Poore. Arrangements were entrusted to the Harris-Hanlon Mortuary in Mountainair, 847-2331.

Vigil -- Sinforosa C. Vigil, 96 years, born November 3, 1901, passed away with Jesus at 4:02 a.m., Tuesday, March 17, 1998, on St. Patrick's Day. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jose Vigil, a World War I Veteran, who passed away April 19, 1975. She is survived by six sons and five daughters, Fares and Ennie, Felix and Cecilia, Bertha and Juan Vigil, Floyd and Glenda, Paul, a Veteran of the Korean War, Gustavo and Beatrice, Francisco and Priscilla Hernandez, Eliza and Robert Fernandez, Victoria and Raynold Gaillour, Dennis and Henrietta, and Mary Louise and Dave Spear; 43 grandchildren; 60 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She will be buried in Costilla, NM, Sacred Heart Church at 10:00 a.m., Friday. Rosary Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. in Taos, and a Rosary at Sacred Heart Church Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
