Carrillo -- Mary O. Carrillo, 73, of Belen, NM, passed away on Tuesday, October 26, 1999. Mary was a member of Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. Her family was her life and she loved her husband, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren dearly. She was preceded in death by one son-in-law, David Fermin Gabaldon in 1997. She is survived by her loving husband, Juan P. Carrillo; her four daughters, Helen Luna and her husband, Ismael of Los Lunas, Rose Norton and her husband, Eric of Los Lunas, Rita Romero and her husband, Clory of Belen, Albita Gabaldon of Belen; her two sons, Leonard Carrillo and his wife, Ida of Bosque, NM, Richard Carrillo and his wife, Becky of Belen; eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; one sister, Celestina Marquez of Tome; one brother, Damacio Gurule and wife, Barbarita of Los Lunas, and several loving nieces and nephews. A viewing will be held on Thursday from 5:00-6:00 p.m. followed by a Rosary at 6:00 p.m. at Romero Funeral home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Tome Catholic Cemetery. Barela -- Leroy Barela, 45, of Tome, NM, passed away on Monday, October 25, 1999 in Farmington. He was a member of the Catholic Church. Leroy worked for the Wall Colmonoy Corp. in Isleta, NM for the past eight years. He was well known in the area as a softball player, coach, and played in the Valley League for many years. Leroy was an active Green Bay Packers fan, outdoorsman, and his greatest pastime was fishing. Leroy was preceded in death by his father, Wilfred in 1994. He is survived by his mother, Tomacita of Tome; his brothers and sisters, Lydia Castillo and her husband, Diego, Marvin and his wife, Beverly of Tome, James and his wife, Julie of Valencia, Eugene of Tome, Alice Barela and her fiance, James Elrod of Tome. He is also survived by his loving uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., at Romero Funeral Home. A Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m., followed by a Rosary at 6:00 p.m. at Romero Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, 10:00 a.m., at San Clemente Catholic Church. Duffy -- Edward Thomas Duffy, 84, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 23. Mr. Duffy has lived in Albuquerque since 1946. He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Betty Carter Duffy. he is survived by his son, Robert T. Duffy and his wife, Dr. Jennie Ann Ozog Duffy of Houston, TX, and their children, Emily, Meredith, and Andrew, his daughter Julie Brown and her husband, Charles Brown of Albuquerque and their children, Rachel and Scott, his son, Thomas, J. Duffy and his wife, Pauline Tao of Vienna, VA, and their son, Liam, and son, Richard F. Duffy and his wife, Deborah Pernice Duffy of Cabin John, MD, and their children Hannah, Joseph, Caroline, and Margaret. He is also survived by his brother, James A. Duffy of Bridgewater, NJ, and Frank T. Duffy of Yonkers, NY, several nieces and nephews, as well as numerous cousins in the U.S. and in Ireland. Mr. Duffy was born on July 6, 1915, in New York City to Thomas Duffy of Sligo County, Ireland, and Johanna McCormack Duffy of Tipperary County, Ireland. His aunt, Julia McCormack also of Tipperary, played a very significant and loving role in his life. Mr. Duffy's family moved to Yonkers, NY, when he was a young boy. He attended Fordham Prep and Manhattan College. While at Fordham Prep he played football and was coached by a student assistant from Fordham University named Vince Lombardi. After college, he worked in Florida as a test driver, and in New York City on the planning and operation of the 1939 New York World's Fair. During World War II, he served in the Army Air Corps as an Intelligence Officer in the South Pacific. He earned three battle stars for his service in the Pacific, including the Guadalcanal and Philippines campaigns, and left the service having attained the rank of Captain. During his training prior to being stationed overseas he was briefly stationed at Kirtland Base and while in New Mexico met and fell in love with his future wife, Betty Carter. After the War he worked with the post-war Manhattan Project. During that time he worked with Gen. Leslie Groves, Robert Oppenheimer, and Edward Teller. He also worked with Gen. Curtis LeMay during the development of the Strategic Air Command. Mr. Duffy served much of his career at Sandia Base as the Deputy Chief of Security and Intelligence for the Defense Atomic Support Agency and the Defense Nuclear Agency. Mr. Duffy loved travel, a good meal, and playing golf and handball. He loved to read, and had an excellent understanding of world and U.S. history. But most of all, he loved his family. He and Betty were terrific parents. He was especially proud of his 10 grandchildren. He will forever be remembered by his kids and grandkids for the poem from his youth that he would recite to our amusement and delight each spring in his best New York accent (author unknown):" 'Tis spring! Da boid is on da wing. Now isn't dat absoid? I always taut da wing was on da boid." Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 27, 1999, 10:00 a.m., at Our Lady of Fatima Church, 4020 Lomas Blvd. NE. Interment will follow at the National Cemetery. Gutierrez -- Sara O. Gutierrez, beloved and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, passed away peacefully while her family was at her side. Mrs. Gutierrez was born in Bronte, TX to the late Juan and Canuta Olivas; a resident of Albuquerque; and a longtime parishioner of Our Lady of The Annunciation Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; and several brothers. She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, David C. Gutierrez of the family home; her children, Christine Cox and husband, Robert (Wayne), Margaret Levine and Patricia Gutierrez; her grandchildren, David and Lisa Cox and Sam and Rebecca Levine. Also surviving are a aunt, Santos Tavares of Arizona; three sisters, Noberta Reyes of Texas, Frances Gutierrez and Julia Stiefel and husband, Sam of Albuquerque; four brothers, Simon Olivas, Henry Olivas and wife, Marcella of Texas, Robert Olivas and wife, Tillie, James Olivas and wife, Viola of Albuquerque; and numerous nieces and nephews. She will be greatly missed by her loving family. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Arlene DeFoor, Betty Howard, Hilda, Julia, Lynda, Jeri, James and Viola Olivas; Hospice attendants, Barbara, Rebecca, Jeanne, and Dr. Lorraine Sanchez for the wonderful way they cared for Mrs. Gutierrez. Landgraf -- The Rev. Anthony P. Landgraf, 100, died on October 21, 1999, at Lovelace Hospital. He was born June 4, 1899 in Chicago, Illinois. He contracted TB as a young adult and came out to a sanitarium in Valmora, New Mexico for three years. He regained his health and returned to Illinois. He attended Northwestern University and Lake Forest College, Illinois, and graduated from McCormick Seminary in Chicago in 1932. He married Hilda Pfander on June 15, 1932. She died in 1992. He served Presbyterian churches in Chicago, Chariton, Iowa, and Freeport, Illinois. He was Pastor of Second Presbyterian Church in Freeport for 21 years. He and Hilda retired to Topeka, Kansas in June, 1964. He served as Interim Pastor to several Topeka area churches, including Central United Presbyterian Church, was Assistant to the Pastor of Central Congregation Church in 1973-74, and as Visitation Pastor at Westminster Presbyterian Church from 1978 to 1982. He did Chaplaincy work in Topeka hospitals, served the Topeka Council of Churches, and as Chaplain to the City Commission. He moved to Albuquerque in November, 1998 and resided at Karrington of Albuquerque from January, 1999. He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Katherine and James Garland of Albuquerque; two granddaughters and three great-grandchildren. A Memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, in the Chapel of Topeka Presbyterian Manor, Topeka, KS. Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Topeka. Memorial donations to New Life Presbyterian Church, 5540 Eubank Blvd. NE, Albuquerque 87111 (Missions or Christmas Joy Offering).

Bettinger -- Takako Bettinger, age 78 and a resident of Albuquerque for 27 years died Friday, October 22, 1999, following an illness. Mrs. Bettinger is survived by her husband, John L. Bettinger; one daughter, Mildred Griffee and her husband, James all of Albuquerque; one step-son, Brian A. Bettinger and his wife, Kathryn of CA; and a sister, Fusako Hayakawa of Japan. Mrs. Bettinger was a member of Temple Baptist Church. Funeral Services will be held Monday, October 25, 1999 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Fitzgerald and Son Funeral Directors, 3113 Carlisle NE with pastor, Fred Gurule of Temple Baptist Church officiating.
